Economic Determinants of Net International Migration in Western Europe

This paper aims to estimate theinfluence of economic determinants on netinternational migration in Western Europe inthe period 1960–1998. Net migration rates(i.e., population growth minus natural increase,divided by the midyear population) constitutethe dependent variable. The economicdeterminants used in this study are GDP percapita, unemployment, and average educationallevel (amount of human capital) of thepopulation. Time series regression models havebeen used in country-specific analyses. Inaddition, a pooled cross-sectional time seriesanalysis has been made. The analyses suggestthat GDP per capita has a positive effect andunemployment a negative effect on a country'snet international migration.     

Queers,Bodies and Postmodern Sexualities: A Note on Revisiting the “Sexual” in Symbolic Interactionism

This article reflects on the linkage between developments in symbolic interactionist theory over the past thirty years and the sociological study of the social construction of sexualities. After some personal reflections on the development of the theory, four main themes are highlighted: the links to postmodernism and queer theory; the paths to new research styles; some internal problems with the theory; and the need to reinstall the importance of the body. The article concludes that symbolic interactionism remains a major approach to the study of sexuality.

对太平天国乡官制度的研究,传统的阶级分析论观点过分拘泥在乡官的阶级成分上,并以此为基础判定政权的性质。其实,以历史当事人的视角去认识当时的政策,是一种更客观的研究角度。太平天国任用乡官的标准,是建立在太平天国地方行政的政治需要之上的。出于以征收粮赋为重点的传统地方行政的需要,太平天国着意与精通传统行政事务的地方名流合作。从社会功效角度来看,太平天国当局通过发挥地方人士的行政优势,很好地弥补了自身行政经验的不足,成功影响了地方政治,并有效缓冲了自身对农村社会的冲击。

对中国农村妇女社会网络资本的研究不能仅限于社会关系范围,做些理论的论证或定性的结论,而是要针对她们的社会网络资本现状,以技术为切入点,分析农村妇女所拥有的技术资本的多少从而评判其社会网络资本的优劣,这样才能使研究走向深入。     

THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF BROADBAND HOUSEHOLD INTERNET ACCESS

Broadband changes everything. Or so we are told. But does it? There is only one way to find out - follow people who move from narrowband to broadband internet access and see what changes. This paper reports exactly this kind of analysis using data from a two wave European panel study (e-Living) and the lagged endogenous regression approach to see if switching to broadband increases the time spent online, the use of online communication services, the breadth of internet activities and the amount of online spend, and whether it decreases the time spent watching TV and the level of social leisure activities. The results suggest, in the main, that switching to broadband made little difference for this group of early broadband adopters who were already heavy internet users. There was no evidence of an online spend or social leisure substitution effect although there was evidence of a reduction in time spent watching television, and an increase in email in use, time spent online and breadth of internet use. In all cases however it was the previous levels of behaviour that were the most significant and switching to broadband was, in general, one of the least strong effects.

现代性批判是生存实践活动的自我批判,因而是超越认识论的存在论批判。马克思的现代性批判并不是诉诸于抽象的人本主义应然逻辑,而是历史唯物主义。历史唯物主义给予我们的启示是:现代性问题并不是人类理性迷误的结果,而是人类生存实践活动的产物。所以,扬弃现实异化的可能性及途径是社会生活本身给出的课题,不是站在历史之外所能设定的理论问题。

当代中国审美文化实践正在发生着深刻的变化,传统的带有形而上特征的审美活动正从孤立的时空中走出来,融入到更为广阔无限延展的日常生活中,文化产品也更多地带有了商品属性成为普遍的消费品。这些都给文艺理论在新世纪的建设提出了许多新的问题。文章试从文艺观的调整、知识立场的反思、批评对象的拓展以及批评平台的拓宽这四个方面对消费时代的文艺理论的建设问题予以回应。

洞经音乐文化是中华文化的一部分,大理洞经音乐文化源远流长,它是道、佛、儒、唐宋词牌和民间小调的集合体,是以道教思想为基础发展演变而成的音乐社团和民俗文化,有大理地域文化的特色,是多元文化的结晶。洞经文化具有积淀历史文化、凝聚民众社团、陶冶民众道德情操的功能。目前应当抓好对洞经文化的继承与发展的课题。
