We analyze the modifications that occur in indirect inference when a nuisance parameter is not identified under the null hypothesis. We develop a testing procedure adapted to this simulation-based estimation method, and detail its use for detecting the threshold effect in threshold moving average models with contemporaneous and lagged asymmetries. In contrast to existing threshold models, these models allow taking into account the presence of asymmetric effects of current and lagged random shocks. We use them to measure the persistence of shocks to U.S. output.     

Are Italian consumer confidence adjustments asymmetric? A macroeconomic and psychological motives approach

This paper estimates the determinants of Italian consumer confidence indicator (CCI) using time series methods. We find there exists a long-run relationship between CCI and its determinants when an important political event ‘operation clean hands’, captured by a dummy, is considered. Using the asymmetric error correction model (Enders & Siklos, 2001), we find that consumers respond asymmetrically to different types of disequilibrium error under threshold autoregressive (TAR) adjustment specification. These findings are consistent with the psychological bias approach (Bovi, 2009).

BINARY REGRESSION WITH A CLASS OF SKEWED t LINK MODELS

ABSTRACT

In this paper we propose a class of skewed t link models for analyzing binary response data with covariates. It is a class of asymmetric link models designed to improve the overall fit when commonly used symmetric links, such as the logit and probit links, do not provide the best fit available for a given binary response dataset. Introducing a skewed t distribution for the underlying latent variable, we develop the class of models. For the analysis of the models, a Bayesian and non-Bayesian methods are pursued using a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling based approach. Necessary theories involved in modelling and computation are provided. Finally, a simulation study and a real data example are used to illustrate the proposed methodology.
