Abstract

In this paper we consider testing that an economic time series follows a martingale difference process. The martingale difference hypothesis has typically been tested using information contained in the second moments of a process, that is, using test statistics based on the sample autocovariances or periodograms. Tests based on these statistics are inconsistent since they cannot detect nonlinear alternatives. In this paper we consider tests that detect linear and nonlinear alternatives. Given that the asymptotic distributions of the considered tests statistics depend on the data generating process, we propose to implement the tests using a modified wild bootstrap procedure. The paper theoretically justifies the proposed tests and examines their finite sample behavior by means of Monte Carlo experiments.  相似文献

We are interested in estimating prediction error for a classification model built on high dimensional genomic data when the number of genes (p) greatly exceeds the number of subjects (n). We examine a distance argument supporting the conventional 0.632+ bootstrap proposed for the $n > p$ scenario, modify it for the $n < p$ situation and develop learning curves to describe how the true prediction error varies with the number of subjects in the training set. The curves are then applied to define adjusted resampling estimates for the prediction error in order to achieve a balance in terms of bias and variability. The adjusted resampling methods are proposed as counterparts of the 0.632+ bootstrap when $n < p$ , and are found to improve on the 0.632+ bootstrap and other existing methods in the microarray study scenario when the sample size is small and there is some level of differential expression. Stochastic compartmental (e.g., SIR) models have proven useful for studying the epidemics of childhood diseases while taking into account the variability of the epidemic dynamics. Here, we present a method for estimating balanced simultaneous confidence sets for the mean sample path of a stochastic SIR model, thus providing a simple representation of both the typical behavior and the variability of the epidemic. The confidence sets are estimated by a bootstrap procedure, using asymptotic properties of density dependent jump Markov processes. The method is applied to chickenpox epidemics in France and the coverage probability of the confidence sets is estimated in that context.  相似文献

We define a test statistic C n based on the sum of the likelihood ratio statistics for testing independence in the 2 × 2 tables defined at n sample cut-points (X i , Y i ). The asymptotic distribution of C n , given the cut-points, is sum of dependent χ2 variables with one degree of freedom. We use the bootstrap to obtain the distribution of C n . We compare the performance of several tests of bivariate independence, including Pearson, Spearman, and Kendall correlations, Blum-Kiefer-Rosenblatt statistic, and C n under several copulas and given marginal distributions.  相似文献

In survival analysis, it is often of interest to test whether or not two survival time distributions are equal, specifically in the presence of censored data. One very popular test statistic utilized in this testing procedure is the weighted logrank statistic. Much attention has been focused on finding flexible weight functions to use within the weighted logrank statistic, and we propose yet another. We demonstrate our weight function to be more stable than one of the most popular, which is given by Fleming and Harrington, by means of asymptotic normal tests, bootstrap tests and permutation tests performed on two datasets with a variety of characteristics.  相似文献

A number of parametric and non-parametric linear trend tests for time series are evaluated in terms of test size and power, using also resampling techniques to form the empirical distribution of the test statistics under the null hypothesis of no linear trend. For resampling, both bootstrap and surrogate data are considered. Monte Carlo simulations were done for several types of residuals (uncorrelated and correlated with normal and nonnormal distributions) and a range of small magnitudes of the trend coefficient. In particular for AR(1) and ARMA(1, 1) residual processes, we investigate the discrimination of strong autocorrelation from linear trend with respect to the sample size. The correct test size is obtained for larger data sizes as autocorrelation increases and only when a randomization test that accounts for autocorrelation is used. The overall results show that the type I and II errors of the trend tests are reduced with the use of resampled data. Following the guidelines suggested by the simulation results, we could find significant linear trend in the data of land air temperature and sea surface temperature.  相似文献

Control charts have been used effectively for years to monitor processes and detect abnormal behaviors. However, most control charts require a specific distribution to establish their control limits. The bootstrap method is a nonparametric technique that does not rely on the assumption of a parametric distribution of the observed data. Although the bootstrap technique has been used to develop univariate control charts to monitor a single process, no effort has been made to integrate the effectiveness of the bootstrap technique with multivariate control charts. In the present study, we propose a bootstrap-based multivariate T 2 control chart that can efficiently monitor a process when the distribution of observed data is nonnormal or unknown. A simulation study was conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed control chart and compare it with a traditional Hotelling's T 2 control chart and the kernel density estimation (KDE)-based T 2 control chart. The results showed that the proposed chart performed better than the traditional T 2 control chart and performed comparably with the KDE-based T 2 control chart. Furthermore, we present a case study to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed control chart to real situations.  相似文献

Periodic functions have many applications in astronomy. They can be used to model the magnitude of light intensity of the period variable stars that their brightness vary with time. Because the data related to the astronomical applications are commonly observed at the time points that are not regularly spaced, the use of the periodogram as a good tool for estimating period is highlighted. Our bootstrap inference about period is based on maximizing the periodogram and consists of percentile two-sided bootstrap confidence intervals construction for the true period. We also obtain their coverage levels theoretically, and discuss the benefit of double-bootstrap confidence intervals for the parameter by which the coverage levels are substantially improved. Precisely, we show that the coverage error of single-bootstrap confidence intervals is of order n ?1, decreasing to order n ?2 when applying double-bootstrap methods. The simulation study given here is a numerical assessment of the theoretical work.  相似文献

Consider semi-competing risks data (two times to concurrent events are studied but only one of them is right-censored by the other one) where the link between the times Y and C to non-terminal and terminal events, respectively, is modeled by a family of Archimedean copulas. Moreover, both Y and C are submitted to an independent right censoring variable D. We propose to estimate the parameter of the copula and some resulting survival functions using a pseudo maximum likelihood approach. The main advantage of this procedure is that it extends to multidimensional parameters copulas. We perform simulations to study the behavior of our estimation procedure and its impact on other related estimators and we apply our method to real data coming from a study on the Hodgkin disease.  相似文献
