Analytic connections between a double design and its original design in terms of different optimality criteria

In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the study of double designs. Various popular optimality criteria have been proposed from different principles for design construction and comparison, such as E(s²), generalized minimum aberration (GMA), minimum moment aberration (MMA), and minimum projection uniformity (MPU). In this article, these criteria are reviewed, and analytic connections between a double design and its original design in terms of these criteria are investigated. These connections are suitable for general original two-level factorial design, whether regular or non regular. In addition, these results provide strong insight into the relationship between double design and original design from different viewpoints.     

Choosing between two semi-finalists: On academic performance gap,sex category,and decision question

We use an application-files experimental design to investigate a new topic in the assessment of candidates for junior-engineering jobs. Our focus is on two semi-finalists, a man and a woman, who show clearly different but still good levels of academic record. We keep the gap between those levels constant, but vary the sex category of the better performer. We also include control conditions in which the two have similar records. Each assessor’s task was to choose either one applicant or neither, and to rate both in competence and suitability. The control-group competence ratings indicate no gender bias by either men or women; the experimental-conditions competence data are consistent with the candidates’ records as predicted, but also show women minimizing the record of the better-performing male candidate. Choice and suitability, on the other hand, reveal a preference for the female applicant across respondents and conditions, as anticipated given the more open nature of those two questions, while still reflecting the academic records. Findings and their interpretation are presented in detail.     

Efficient Estimation of Data Combination Models by the Method of Auxiliary-to-Study Tilting (AST)

We propose a locally efficient estimator for a class of semiparametric data combination problems. A leading estimand in this class is the average treatment effect on the treated (ATT). Data combination problems are related to, but distinct from, the class of missing data problems with data missing at random (of which the average treatment effect (ATE) estimand is a special case). Our estimator also possesses a double robustness property. Our procedure may be used to efficiently estimate, among other objects, the ATT, the two-sample instrumental variables model (TSIV), counterfactual distributions, poverty maps, and semiparametric difference-in-differences. In an empirical application, we use our procedure to characterize residual Black–White wage inequality after flexibly controlling for “premarket” differences in measured cognitive achievement. Orthogonal main-effect plans in row–column designs for two-level factorial experiments

Row–column designs for two-level factorial experiments are constructed to estimate all the main effects. We give the interactions for row and column blockings. Based on these blockings, independent treatment combinations are proposed to establish the whole design so that practitioners can easily apply it to their experiments. Some examples are given for illustrations. The estimation of two-factor interactions in these designs is discussed.     

Variance estimation of DEE and regression estimator when a first-phase cluster sample is restratified

We consider a variance estimation when a stratified single stage cluster sample is selected in the first phase and a stratified simple random element sample is selected in the second phase. We propose explicit formulas of (asymptotically), we propose explicit formulas of (asymptotically) unbiased variance estimators for the double expansion estimator and regression estimator. We perform a small simulation study to investigate the performance of the proposed variance estimators. In our simulation study, the proposed variance estimator showed better or comparable performance to the Jackknife variance estimator. We also extend the results to a two-phase sampling design in which a stratified pps with replacement cluster sample is selected in the first phase.     

Extended Poisson INAR(1) processes with equidispersion,underdispersion and overdispersion

Real count data time series often show the phenomenon of the underdispersion and overdispersion. In this paper, we develop two extensions of the first-order integer-valued autoregressive process with Poisson innovations, based on binomial thinning, for modeling integer-valued time series with equidispersion, underdispersion, and overdispersion. The main properties of the models are derived. The methods of conditional maximum likelihood, Yule–Walker, and conditional least squares are used for estimating the parameters, and their asymptotic properties are established. We also use a test based on our processes for checking if the count time series considered is overdispersed or underdispersed. The proposed models are fitted to time series of the weekly number of syphilis cases and monthly counts of family violence illustrating its capabilities in challenging the overdispersed and underdispersed count data.

华语电影中的地域转移与空间叙事——大陆、香港、台湾电影改编中的地域比较研究

尽管大陆电影空间在《黄土地》等一批先锋之作中经历了从具实到抽象的过程,形成了扩张的文化隐喻,但是空间的传统经验却陷入了影像表达的悖论;游弋出大陆的香港电影始终将地域空间限定在城市想象的自我比附,或隐或显地出现了一种"双城"现象。张爱玲作品在香港颇受导演青睐,个中原因在于其作品铭记着"双城"(上海/香港)的空间体验。如果说大陆电影的空间有一种外向性,那么身处后现代文化中的台湾电影逐渐排除了整体的空间感,缩小地域、社会空间,出现了一种内倾的迹象。从深层的文化心理上说,这恰恰是两岸三地在西方文化触发后,民族文化记忆的不同苏醒。
