Abstarct. This paper is concerned with studying the dependence structure between two random variables Y 1 and Y 2 conditionally upon a covariate X. The dependence structure is modelled via a copula function, which depends on the given value of the covariate in a general way. Gijbels et al. (Comput. Statist. Data Anal., 55, 2011, 1919) suggested two non‐parametric estimators of the ‘conditional’ copula and investigated their numerical performances. In this paper we establish the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators as well as conditional association measures derived from them. We study application of the Exponential Tilt Model (ETM) to compare survival distributions in two groups. The ETM assumes a parametric form for the density ratio of the two distributions. It accommodates a broad array of parametric models such as the log-normal and gamma models and can be sufficiently flexible to allow for crossing hazard and crossing survival functions. We develop a nonparametric likelihood approach to estimate ETM parameters in the presence of censoring and establish related asymptotic results. We compare the ETM to the Proportional Hazards Model (PHM) in simulation studies. When the proportional hazards assumption is not satisfied but the ETM assumption is, the ETM has better power for testing the hypothesis of no difference between the two groups. And, importantly, when the ETM relation is not satisfied but the PHM assumption is, the ETM can still have power reasonably close to that of the PHM. The accuracy of a diagnostic test is typically characterized using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Summarizing indexes such as the area under the ROC curve (AUC) are used to compare different tests as well as to measure the difference between two populations. Often additional information is available on some of the covariates which are known to influence the accuracy of such measures. The authors propose nonparametric methods for covariate adjustment of the AUC. Models with normal errors and possibly non‐normal errors are discussed and analyzed separately. Nonparametric regression is used for estimating mean and variance functions in both scenarios. In the model that relaxes the assumption of normality, the authors propose a covariate‐adjusted Mann–Whitney estimator for AUC estimation which effectively uses available data to construct working samples at any covariate value of interest and is computationally efficient for implementation. This provides a generalization of the Mann–Whitney approach for comparing two populations by taking covariate effects into account. The authors derive asymptotic properties for the AUC estimators in both settings, including asymptotic normality, optimal strong uniform convergence rates and mean squared error (MSE) consistency. The MSE of the AUC estimators was also assessed in smaller samples by simulation. Data from an agricultural study were used to illustrate the methods of analysis. The study of differences among groups is an interesting statistical topic in many applied fields. It is very common in this context to have data that are subject to mechanisms of loss of information, such as censoring and truncation. In the setting of a two‐sample problem with data subject to left truncation and right censoring, we develop an empirical likelihood method to do inference for the relative distribution. We obtain a nonparametric generalization of Wilks' theorem and construct nonparametric pointwise confidence intervals for the relative distribution. Finally, we analyse the coverage probability and length of these confidence intervals through a simulation study and illustrate their use with a real data set on gastric cancer. Abstract. We propose a non‐linear density estimator, which is locally adaptive, like wavelet estimators, and positive everywhere, without a log‐ or root‐transform. This estimator is based on maximizing a non‐parametric log‐likelihood function regularized by a total variation penalty. The smoothness is driven by a single penalty parameter, and to avoid cross‐validation, we derive an information criterion based on the idea of universal penalty. The penalized log‐likelihood maximization is reformulated as an ?1‐penalized strictly convex programme whose unique solution is the density estimate. A Newton‐type method cannot be applied to calculate the estimate because the ?1‐penalty is non‐differentiable. Instead, we use a dual block coordinate relaxation method that exploits the problem structure. By comparing with kernel, spline and taut string estimators on a Monte Carlo simulation, and by investigating the sensitivity to ties on two real data sets, we observe that the new estimator achieves good L 1 and L 2 risk for densities with sharp features, and behaves well with ties. 相似文献

Abstract. First, to test the existence of random effects in semiparametric mixed models (SMMs) under only moment conditions on random effects and errors, we propose a very simple and easily implemented non‐parametric test based on a difference between two estimators of the error variance. One test is consistent only under the null and the other can be so under both the null and alternatives. Instead of erroneously solving the non‐standard two‐sided testing problem, as in most papers in the literature, we solve it correctly and prove that the asymptotic distribution of our test statistic is standard normal. This avoids Monte Carlo approximations to obtain p ‐values, as is needed for many existing methods, and the test can detect local alternatives approaching the null at rates up to root n. Second, as the higher moments of the error are necessarily estimated because the standardizing constant involves these quantities, we propose a general method to conveniently estimate any moments of the error. Summary. We define residuals for point process models fitted to spatial point pattern data, and we propose diagnostic plots based on them. The residuals apply to any point process model that has a conditional intensity; the model may exhibit spatial heterogeneity, interpoint interaction and dependence on spatial covariates. Some existing ad hoc methods for model checking (quadrat counts, scan statistic, kernel smoothed intensity and Berman's diagnostic) are recovered as special cases. Diagnostic tools are developed systematically, by using an analogy between our spatial residuals and the usual residuals for (non-spatial) generalized linear models. The conditional intensity λ plays the role of the mean response. This makes it possible to adapt existing knowledge about model validation for generalized linear models to the spatial point process context, giving recommendations for diagnostic plots. A plot of smoothed residuals against spatial location, or against a spatial covariate, is effective in diagnosing spatial trend or co-variate effects. Principal components are a well established tool in dimension reduction. The extension to principal curves allows for general
smooth curves which pass through the middle of a multidimensional data cloud. In this paper local principal curves are introduced,
which are based on the localization of principal component analysis. The proposed algorithm is able to identify closed curves
as well as multiple curves which may or may not be connected. For the evaluation of the performance of principal curves as
tool for data reduction a measure of coverage is suggested. By use of simulated and real data sets the approach is compared

Abstract. In this paper, we consider a semiparametric time-varying coefficients regression model where the influences of some covariates vary non-parametrically with time while the effects of the remaining covariates follow certain parametric functions of time. The weighted least squares type estimators for the unknown parameters of the parametric coefficient functions as well as the estimators for the non-parametric coefficient functions are developed. We show that the kernel smoothing that avoids modelling of the sampling times is asymptotically more efficient than a single nearest neighbour smoothing that depends on the estimation of the sampling model. The asymptotic optimal bandwidth is also derived. A hypothesis testing procedure is proposed to test whether some covariate effects follow certain parametric forms. Simulation studies are conducted to compare the finite sample performances of the kernel neighbourhood smoothing and the single nearest neighbour smoothing and to check the empirical sizes and powers of the proposed testing procedures. An application to a data set from an AIDS clinical trial study is provided for illustration. 相似文献
