A generalized random coefficient first-order integer-valued autoregressive process with signed thinning operator is introduced, this kind of process is appropriate for modeling negative integer-valued time series. Strict stationarity and ergodicity of process are established. Estimators of the parameters of interest are derived and their properties are studied via simulation. The authors give easy‐to‐check sufficient conditions for the geometric ergodicity and the finiteness of the moments of a random process xt = ?(xt‐1,…, xt‐p) + ?tσ(xt‐1,…, xt‐q) in which ?: Rp → R, σ Rq → R and (?t) is a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables. In this paper we first formulate the dynamics of multistate stable population processes as a partial differential equation. Next, we rewrite this equation as an abstract differential equation in a Banach space, and solve it by using the theory of strongly continuous semigroups of bounded linear operators. Subsequently, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of this semigroup to show the strong ergodic theorem which states that there exists a stable distribution independent of the initial distribution. Finally, we introduce the dual problem in order to obtain a logical definition for the reproductive value and we discuss its applications.  相似文献

We consider the Gibbs sampler as a tool for generating an absolutely continuous probability measure ≥ on Rd. When an appropriate irreducibility condition is satisfied, the Gibbs Markov chain (Xn;n ≥ 0) converges in total variation to its target distribution ≥. Sufficient conditions for geometric convergence have been given by various authors. Here we illustrate, by means of simple examples, how slow the convergence can be. In particular, we show that given a sequence of positive numbers decreasing to zero, say (bn;n ≥ 1), one can construct an absolutely continuous probability measure ≥ on Rd which is such that the total variation distance between ≥ and the distribution of Xn, converges to 0 at a rate slower than that of the sequence (bn;n ≥ 1). This can even be done in such a way that ≥ is the uniform distribution over a bounded connected open subset of Rd. A new model is proposed to test whether an equipment whose life is measured in discrete time units fails due to uncontrollable chance factors alone against the alternatives that it degrades over time in the sense of discrete HNBUE (harmonic new better than used in expectation) aging. The test is shown to be consistent and the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic has been obtained. The critical points and the power of the test against various alternatives from discrete HNBUE class have been studied by means of simulation. Finally, the test is applied to a discrete reliability data to examine the performance.  相似文献

Modeling spatial overdispersion requires point process models with finite‐dimensional distributions that are overdisperse relative to the Poisson distribution. Fitting such models usually heavily relies on the properties of stationarity, ergodicity, and orderliness. In addition, although processes based on negative binomial finite‐dimensional distributions have been widely considered, they typically fail to simultaneously satisfy the three required properties for fitting. Indeed, it has been conjectured by Diggle and Milne that no negative binomial model can satisfy all three properties. In light of this, we change perspective and construct a new process based on a different overdisperse count model, namely, the generalized Waring (GW) distribution. While comparably tractable and flexible to negative binomial processes, the GW process is shown to possess all required properties and additionally span the negative binomial and Poisson processes as limiting cases. In this sense, the GW process provides an approximate resolution to the conundrum highlighted by Diggle and Milne.  相似文献

Lyell, a founder of the science of geology, used statistical models to describe the changes that had occurred in the earth and its environment. From this model he attempted to establish a time frame for each epoch. This article shows that Lyell's model is equivalent to the classic coupon problem included in many probability texts. Furthermore, it is shown that the time frame deduced by Lyell is inconsistent with the model he was using. The proper time frame consistent with the model is provided. A second model that was considered by Lyell is also investigated.  相似文献

Abstract

Errors-in-variable (EIV) regression is often used to gauge linear relationship between two variables both suffering from measurement and other errors, such as, the comparison of two measurement platforms (e.g., RNA sequencing vs. microarray). Scientists are often at a loss as to which EIV regression model to use for there are infinite many choices. We provide sound guidelines toward viable solutions to this dilemma by introducing two general nonparametric EIV regression frameworks: the compound regression and the constrained regression. It is shown that these approaches are equivalent to each other and, to the general parametric structural modeling approach. The advantages of these methods lie in their intuitive geometric representations, their distribution free nature, and their ability to offer candidate solutions with various optimal properties when the ratio of the error variances is unknown. Each includes the classic nonparametric regression methods of ordinary least squares, geometric mean regression (GMR), and orthogonal regression as special cases. Under these general frameworks, one can readily uncover some surprising optimal properties of the GMR, and truly comprehend the benefit of data normalization.
