Do people ever get too old to change? Studies of the influence of the age of adult patients on the outcome of mental health treatment have led to inconsistent results. Design characteristics of such studies have limited our understanding of the relationship between age and outcome. Over 300 male veterans undergoing brief inpatient psychiatric treatment were categorized according to their age-based, adult developmental period (Levinson, Darrow, Klein, Levinson, &; McKee, 1978). Improvement during treatment was found to be significantly related to the patient's developmental stage (r = .25, p < .01). These results were cross-validated and replicated using three different techniques for measuring improvement. Patients treated during transition periods, whether young or old, improved most. These results were not limited to wartime veterans. Apparently, adult males are more responsive to mental health treatment during transition periods than at other times.  相似文献

Data on referral and discharge from a short-term habilitative facility are used to illustrate the "survival analysis" of the rate at which institutionalized mentally retarded persons are released to the community and regression analysis of factors which help predict time to release. These techniques can be used to assess the degree to which habilitative facilities and community agencies achieve their stated goals, to help community agencies plan placement requirements, to compare the progress of various subgroups of clients, and to assess the overall benefit of deinstitutionalization efforts for the entire population at which it is aimed.  相似文献

In this study a strategy well known to industry. Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), was used to evaluate the community placement procedures in one institution for retarded. Case file review of two samples of residents was used to develop PERT networks showing movements between various living and vocational training settings. Analysis of these networks provided data and pinpointed needed procedural changes to meet the placement objective. The large number of recommendations derived from PERT and supplemental data provided evidence that PERT can be a valuable evaluation package component in institutions for the retarded. Evaluation applications in other human service systems were suggested.  相似文献

The central issue explored in this paper concerns those principles and objectives that should guide the formulation of policy aimed at the marginal high school student. Recent efforts to make these youth more employable through specialized and remedial programs are examined. After the general ineffectiveness of such programs is noted, an analysis is offered which links delinquency and adolescent development theory. The concept of adolescent social development is explored along with the effects of experiential education programs as a context for stimulating this development. Finally, to promote the use of programs which provide for adolescent social development, a policy of modified vouchers is advocated.  相似文献

本文将"塑造决策议程的多源流"模型和"权力场中心空间"视角相结合,建立了一个分析框架。在此基础上,本文选取欧盟的"地中海联盟"政策架构的两次演变作为案例,从三方面入手,分析"欧洲政策中心"影响欧盟的北非政策的方式与途径:首先,比较该智库的建言与欧盟政策在内容要点上的关联性和时间上的先后顺序,以评估该智库的总体影响;其次,分析该智库举办的高层论坛的运作结构,以观察其短期直接影响,评估其作为"权力场"的信息沟通"平台"的作用;再次,分析该智库经由"旋转门"体制与欧盟决策体系形成的人事关联,以评估其长期直接影响。"欧洲政策中心"对欧盟"地中海联盟"架构的影响机制,折射出欧盟层面的智库在欧盟对外决策体系中的位置与作用。  相似文献

This paper describes practice in a collectivity of im- paired, elderly patients in an acute care hospital, and explores work- er and entity development through the use of a qualitative research design. The study indicates that the mobilization of essential sub- systems enhanced the potential of this helping form. The study also suggests that worker competence preceded entity development, and that both were influenced positively by the research methodology that was employed. The impact of the improved collectivity on the hospital system is discussed.  相似文献
