A Conversation With Virus X: Outing a Malevolent and Subversive Force in Parents' Lives

The following conversation describes a narrative means of uncovering (or ‘deconstructing’) some of the invisible forces that undermine parents' capacities in caring for their children in preferred ways. In the authors' experience, parents can be hugely resourceful and provide a clear account of what they ‘should’ be doing, yet seem unable to act upon their own good advice — it is as though an external agent, named below as ‘Virus X’, prevents them from being the parents they would like to be. Through naming this external agent, identifying its influences and noticing parents' acts of resistance in the face of these influences, antidotes to Virus X can be developed. This paper describes the development of such an approach within a child behaviour management group. In keeping with the playful approach encouraged by narrative therapy, the authors of this paper join forces to act as investigative journalists in exposing Virus X to the readers.     

Fat in the Fire? Science,the News Media,and the “Obesity Epidemic”2

In recent years, the “obesity epidemic” has emerged as a putative public health crisis. This article examines the interconnected role of medical science and news reporting in shaping the way obesity is framed as a social problem. Drawing on a sample of scientific publications on weight and health, and press releases and news reporting on these publications, we compare and contrast social problem frames in medical science and news reporting. We find substantial overlap in science and news reporting, but the news media do dramatize more than the studies on which they are reporting and are more likely than the original science to highlight individual blame for weight. This is partly due to the news media’s tendency to report more heavily on the most alarmist and individual‐blaming scientific studies. We find some evidence that press releases also shape which articles receive media coverage and how they are framed.     

大学生心理问题应急处理机制探析

通过对在校大学生的问卷调查与分析,提出有关大学生心理问题的应急处理的普及机制和在应急过程中应遵循的原则等,并针对大学生中由于受严重心理问题影响而产生的自杀、暴力、杀人等恶性事件,提出一些具体的预防或控制处理的策略与措施,以期减少校园悲剧的发生。     

转型时期影响男女平等意识的因素分析

妇女问题的核心是妇女地位问题 ,因为这是一切妇女问题最集中、最本质的体现 ,它不仅是妇女问题解决与否的主要标志 ,而且是衡量社会经济发展水平的重要尺度。男女平等的意识问题 ,属于人的观念范畴 ,对解决转型时期中国妇女问题中男女平等意识进行了分析和梳理 ,以利于更好地解决当下妇女问题 ,追求人的全面发展     

辽宁省新型农村合作医疗调查与思考

以随机抽样方式对辽宁省法库县冯贝堡村农民进行问卷调查，分析研究了辽宁省实行新型农村合作医疗的进展情况、存在的一些问题及解决的对策。通过分析农民对新型农村合作医疗制度参与情况得出：农民参合率有待进一步提高；以保大病为主，降低了农民的受益面；规定定点医院，农民选择余地较小；农民经济负担没有从根本上减轻。因此提出通过加强宣传工作力度，扩大定点医院范围，加强立法工作，加大财政投入力度等对策，更好地完善新型农村合作医疗制度。
