A Trivariate Distribution for the Height,Weight, and Fat of Adult Men*

Using exploratory data analysis, probability plots, scatterplots, and computer animations to rotate and visualize the data, we fit a trivariate Normal distribution to data for the height, the natural logarithm of body weight, and the body fat for 646 men between the ages of 50 and 80 years as reported by the medical staff of the U.S. Veterans Administration's “Normative Aging Study” in Boston, MA. Although these data do not include any children, women, or young men, the measurements represent the best data that we could find through a 4-year search. We believe that these data are well measured and reliable for men in the specified age range and that these data reveal an interesting statistical pattern for use in probabilistic PBPK models.

高师声乐大课三加并用教学模式探索与实践

加强音乐学科建设,培养跨世纪高水平音乐人才。近些年来很多师范院校根据师范特点,对声乐课教学进行了多方面的改革,如在个别课的基础上又增设了大课形式。然而,目前声乐大课的教学目的是什么？声乐大课怎样教？教些什么内容？才适合学生特点？符合师范院校培养目标等等。一直是声乐教师要研究与探索的教学途经。传统声乐教学与新教学模式在相互碰撞,多元化声乐教学已形成显著特点。追求声乐教学的科学性、创新性及实践性,在当今与未来将成为声乐教学的发展方向。     

劳动力资本参与土地股份合作收益分配探析

当前，作为土地股份合作制运行的要素有农民土地使用权、生产技术、农业生产资料等，而劳动力资本这一要素没有被考虑在内。由于在一定时期内我国仍将有大量农民从事农业生产，当前通过定性劳动力产权、量化劳动力资本，将劳动力资本作为土地股份合作的基本要素之一，实现劳者有其股，并参与收益分配，既是维护农民利益、促进农民增收的有效方式，也是实现以人为本、构建和谐社会的有效途径。     

Pseudolikelihood estimation in a class of problems with response-related missing covariates

Many practical situations involve a response variable Y and covariates X , where data on (Y, X ) are incomplete for some portion of a sample of individuals. We consider two general types of pseudolikelihood estimation for problems in which missingness may be response-related. These are typically simpler to implement than ordinary maximum likelihood, which in this context is semiparametric. Asymptotics for the pseudolikelihood methods are presented, and simulations conducted to investigate the methods for an important class of problems involving lifetime data. Our results indicate that for these problems the two methods are effective and comparable with respect to efficiency.     

Tests based on equivariant estimators

Let ?⁽¹⁾ and ?⁽²⁾ be location-equivariant estimators of an unknown location parameter μ. It is shown that the test for H₀: μ ≤ μ₀ versus H_A : μ > μ₀ that rejects H₀ if ?⁽¹⁾ is large is uniformly more powerful than the one that rejects H₀ if ?⁽²⁾ is large if and only if ?⁽²⁾ is “more dispersed” than ?⁽¹⁾. A similar result is obtained for tests on scale using the star-shaped ordering. Examples are given.     

Fractal Function Estimation via Wavelet Shrinkage

In scientific studies objects are often very rough. Mathematically these rough objects are modelled by fractal functions, and the fractal dimension is usually used to measure their roughness. This paper investigates fractal function estimation by wavelet shrinkage. It is shown that wavelet shrinkage can estimate fractal functions with their fractal dimensions virtually preserved.     

Estimation of scale parameters in mixture distributions

Simultaneous estimation of scale parameters is considered in mixture distributions under squared-error loss. A general class of estimators is obtained which dominates the componentwise best multiple estimators and the moment estimators. As special cases, improved estimators are obtained for the multivariate t-distribution and the p-variate Lomax distribution.     

构建和谐社会中的收入分配问题

当前我国社会收入分配问题的症结不是在于基尼系数所表达的分配结果不均,而是在于机会不平等的过程中产生的分配不公。能否处理好不同范畴的收入分配问题,特别是因滥用公共权力引起的社会分配不公,则关系到改革、发展、稳定的大局。社会需要通过改革有效调整已经形成的社会收入分配格局,使之能够朝着公平、正义的方向演变,这是构建和谐社会中亟待解决的关键问题之一。
