A three-parameter F approximation to the distribution of a positive linear combination of central chi-squared variables is described. It is about as easy to implement as the Satterthwaite-Welsh and Hall-Buckley-Eagleson approximations. Some reassuring properties of the F approximation are derived, and numerical results are presented. The numerical results indicate that the new approximation is superior to the Satterthwaite approximation and, for some purposes, better than the Hall-Buckley-Eagleson approximation. It is not quite as good as the Gamma-Weibull approximation due to Solomon and Stephens, but is easier to implement because iterative methods are not required.  相似文献

Critical values are presented for the Kolmogorov-Smirnov type test statistics for the following three cases: (i) the gamma distribution when both the scale and the shape parameters are not known, (ii) the scale parameter of the gamma distribution is not known and (iii) the inverse Gaussian distribution when both the parameters are unknown. This study was motivated by the necessity to fit the gamma, the Erlang-2 and the inverse Gaussian distributions to the interpurchase times of individuals for coffee in marketing research.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with estimating the parameters of Tadikamalla-Johnson's LB distribution using the first four moments. Tables of the parameters of the LB distribution are given for selected values of skewness (0.0(0.05) 1.0(0.1)2.0) and corresponding available values of kurtosis at intervals of 0.2. A numerically feasible algorithm is proposed for maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters of the Dirichlet distribution. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the method of moments using bias ratio and squared errors by Monte Carlo simulation. For these criteria, it is found that even in small samples maximum likelihood estimation has advantages over the method of moments.  相似文献

A generalization of the Poisson distribution was defined by Consul and Jain (Ann. Math. Statist., 41, (1970)) and was obtained as a particular family of Lagrange distributions by Consul and Shenton (SIAM. J. Appl. Math., 23, (1972)). The distribution is subsequently named the generalized Poisson distribution (GPD). This GPD reduces to the Poisson distribution for ? = 0. When the data have a one-way layout structure, the asymptotically locally optimal Neyman's C(d) test is constructed and compared with the conditional test on the hypothesis Ho? = 0. Within the framework of the generalized linear models an appropriate link function is given, and the asymptotic distributions of the estimated parameters are derived.  相似文献

We compare the performance of seven robust estimators for the parameter of an exponential distribution. These include the debiased median and two optimally-weighted one-sided trimmed means. We also introduce four new estimators: the Transform, Bayes, Scaled and Bicube estimators. We make the Monte Carlo comparisons for three sample sizes and six situations. We evaluate the comparisons in terms of a new performance measure, Mean Absolute Differential Error (MADE), and a premium/protection interpretation of MADE. We organize the comparisons to enhance statistical power by making maximal use of common random deviates. The Transform estimator provides the best performance as judged by MADE. The singly-trimmed mean and Transform method define the efficient frontier of premium/protection.  相似文献

An envelope-rejection method is used to generate random variates from the Watson distribution. The method is compact and is competitive with, if not superior to, the existing sampling algorithms. For the girdle form of the Watson distribution, a faster algorithm is proposed. As a result, Johnson's sampling algorithm for the Bingham distribution is improved.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimating the two parameters of the discrete Good distribution. We first show that the sufficient statistics for the parameters are the arithmetic and the geometric means. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLE's) of the parameters are obtained by solving numerically a system of equations involving the Lerch zeta function and the sufficient statistics. We find an expression for the asymptotic variance-covariance matrix of the MLE's, which can be evaluated numerically. We show that the probability mass function satisfies a simple recurrence equation linear in the two parameters, and propose the quadratic distance estimator (QDE) which can be computed with an ineratively reweighted least-squares algorithm. the QDE is easy to calculate and admits a simple expression for its asymptotic variance-covariance matrix. We compute this matrix for the MLE's and the QDE for various values of the parameters and see that the QDE has very high asymptotic efficiency. Finally, we present a numerical example.  相似文献

Most of the available literature on accelerated life testing deals with tests that use only one accelerating variable and no other explanatory variables. Frequently, however, there is a need to use more than one accelerating or other experimental variables. Examples include a test of capacitors at higher than usual levels of temperature and voltage, and a test of circuit boards at higher than usual levels of temperature, humidity, and voltage. M-step, step-stress models are extended to include k stress variables. Optimum M-step, step-stress designs with k stress variables are found. The polynomial model is considered as a special case, and a lack of fit test is discussed. Also a goodness-of-fit test is proposed and the appropriateness of using its asymptotic chi-square distribution for small samples is shown.  相似文献
