Customizing Generalizations of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Goodness-of-fit Test

This paper presents a method of customizing goodness-of-fit tests that transforms the empirical distribution function in such a way as to create tests for certain alternatives. Using the @ , g transform described in Blom(1958), one can create non-parametric tests for an assortment of alternative distributions. As examples, three new ( f , g )-corrected Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests for goodness-of-fit are discussed. One of these tests is powerful for testing whether or not the data come from an alternative that is heavier in the tails. Another test identifies whether or not the data come from an alternative which is heavier in the middle of the distribution. The last test identifies if the data come from an alternative in which the first or third quartile is far from the corresponding quartile of the hypothesized distribution. The behavior of the three new tests is investigated through a power study.

Children removed from home by court order: Fathers' disenfranchised grief and reclamation of paternal functions

The study, based on in-depth interviews with 15 fathers in Israel, reports on fathers' emotional reactions to the court-ordered removal of their children from home. The findings show that all the fathers experienced the removal as a traumatic event, which utterly devalued them and annihilated their paternal identity. Although they suffered intense pain and loss well after their children were removed, their grief was disenfranchised as friends and family accused them of allowing the removal to happen. With this, most of the fathers acclimated to the removal and even reported an expansion of their parental identity. The discussion suggests some theoretical conceptualizations of their intense feelings of pain and loss.     

Au Revoir: An Attachment and Loss Perspective on Termination

Traditional views of psychotherapy hold that termination allows both for a consolidation of therapeutic work and an opportunity to work through issues of separation and loss. Such a view suggests not only that those issues will resolve in treatment, but also that endings are inevitable, permanent, and that the feelings invoked can and should be mastered and worked through. Recent research on termination, attachment, loss and grieving suggests a different conception. Consideration of that research can better ground therapists in more nuanced techniques for ending treatment in both child and adult psychotherapy.

Bayesian approach for optimal PV system sizing under climate change

This paper proposes a novel statistical approach for optimally sizing a stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) system under climate change. Traditionally, the irradiation profile of a typical day or year is used to size PV systems. However, facing the global warming crisis as well as the fact that no two years would have the same weather condition for a single site, this often makes the traditional way failed in the extreme weather conditions. This paper presents a method to statistically model the trend of climate change year by year and put it into the sizing formula, so that the results are optimal for the current weather condition and confidential for the future as well. Hence, the suitable sizes for the PV array and the number of batteries are obtained by pure computation. This is different from the traditional simulation-based sizing curve method. An economic optimization procedure is also presented. In addition to the capital and maintenance costs, a penalty cost is introduced when service fails. A new statistic-based reliability index, the loss of power probability, in terms of threshold-based Extreme Value Theory is presented. This index indicates the upper bound reliability for applications and provides rich information for many extreme events. A technological and economic comparison among the traditional daily energy balance method, sizing curve method and the proposed approach is conducted to demonstrate the usefulness of the new method.

On Bayesian learning from Bernoulli observations

We provide a reason for Bayesian updating, in the Bernoulli case, even when it is assumed that observations are independent and identically distributed with a fixed but unknown parameter _θ0${\theta }_0$. The motivation relies on the use of loss functions and asymptotics. Such a justification is important due to the recent interest and focus on Bayesian consistency which indeed assumes that the observations are independent and identically distributed rather than being conditionally independent with joint distribution depending on the choice of prior.     

纯粹经济损失探析

纯粹经济损失是因对人身权利和有形财产权利益以外的利益的侵害所直接导致的受害人一般经济利益的损失。纯粹经济损失的可赔偿性一直是颇具争议的问题,各国的普遍做法是以“排除性规则”为原则,但同时创设一些例外。合同法和侵权法是各国对纯粹经济损失进行救济的基本法律途径,另外将案件类型化也是一个重要的手段。我国应该加强对纯粹经济损失的研究和立法。
