On some probability distributions associated with random walks

The probability distribution of the total number of games to ruin in a gambler's ruin random walk with initial position n, the probability distribution of the total size of an epidemic starting with n cases and the probability distribution of the number of customers served during a busy period M/M/1 when the service starts with n waiting customers are identical. All these can be easily obtained by using Lagrangian expansions instead of long combinatorial methods. The binomial, trinomial, quadrinomial and polynomial random walks of a particle have been considered with an absorbing barrier at 0 when the particle starts its walks from a point n, and the pgfs. and the probability distributions of the total number of jumps (trials) before absorption at 0 have been obtained. The values for the mean and variance of such walks have also been given.

Multivariate mixtures of normals with unknown number of components

We present full Bayesian analysis of finite mixtures of multivariate normals with unknown number of components. We adopt reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo and we construct, in a manner similar to that of Richardson and Green (1997), split and merge moves that produce good mixing of the Markov chains. The split moves are constructed on the space of eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the current covariance matrix so that the proposed covariance matrices are positive definite. Our proposed methodology has applications in classification and discrimination as well as heterogeneity modelling. We test our algorithm with real and simulated data.     

Issues Related to Sports Gambling

This paper looks at various issues that are of interest to the sports gambler. First, an expression is obtained for the distribution of the final bankroll using fixed wagers with a specified initial bankroll. Second, fixed percentage wagers are considered where the Kelly method is extended to the case of simultaneous bets placed at various odds; a computational algorithm is presented to obtain the Kelly fractions. Finally, the paper considers the problem of determining whether a gambling system is profitable based on the historical results of bets placed at various odds.     

有界风险模型中Gerber-Shiu函数的若干结果

研究了有界风险模型中的Gerber-Shiu函数,得到了当索赔到达Erlang(2)过程时Gerber-Shiu函数满足的微积分方程,并进行求解.进而研究了延迟更新有界风险模型中,对首次索赔时刻的分布加入一个新的参数时Gerber-Shiu函数的变化,并得到了一个数学上易处理的Gerber-Shiu函数的公式.     

我国优秀男子三级跳运动员跨步跳阶段动作技术的运动分析

通过影片拍摄等研究方法对我国部分优秀男子三级跳远运动员跨步跳阶段的着地角、起跳角等相关的数据指标进行了分析研究.结果表明,我国运动员跨步跳中的着地角和起跳角均小于世界优秀运动员,体现在摆动腿摆速偏慢和支撑腿的快速蹬伸能力较差等方面.     

我国男子跳高训练的新思路

分析了我国男子跳高成绩停滞不前的原因,提出教练员要有创新精神,要重视青少年基本功训练,要重视个体化训练,突出专项训练,注重心理素质训练提高参加世界大赛能力等训练新思路.
