ABSTRACT

We derive an analytic expression for the bias of the maximum likelihood estimator of the parameter in a doubly-truncated Poisson distribution, which proves highly effective as a means of bias correction. For smaller sample sizes, our method outperforms the alternative of bias correction via the parametric bootstrap. Bias is of little concern in the positive Poisson distribution, the most common form of truncation in the applied literature. Bias appears to be the most severe in the doubly-truncated Poisson distribution, when the mean of the distribution is close to the right (upper) truncation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider a two-phase tandem queueing model with a second optional service and random feedback. The first phase of service is essential for all customers and after the completion of the first phase of service, any customer receives the second phase of service with probability α, feedback to the tail of the first queue with probability β if the service is not successful and leaves the system with probability 1 ? α ? β. In this model, our main purpose is to estimate the parameters of the model, traffic intensity, and mean system size, in the steady state, via maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. Furthermore, we find asymptotic confidence intervals for mean system size. Finally, by a simulation study, we compute the confidence levels and mean length for asymptotic confidence intervals of mean system size with a nominal level 0.95.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We consider semiparametric inference on the partially linearsingle-index model (PLSIM). The generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) test is proposed to examine whether or not a family of new semiparametric models fits adequately our given data in the PLSIM. A new GLR statistic is established to deal with the testing of the index parameter α0 in the PLSIM. The newly proposed statistic is shown to asymptotically follow a χ2-distribution with the scale constant and the degrees of freedom being independent of the nuisance parameters or function. Some finite sample simulations and a real example are used to illustrate our proposed methodology.  相似文献

Random vectors with positive components are common in many applied fields, for example, in meteorology, when daily precipitation is measured through a region Marchenko and Genton (2010 Marchenko, Y., Genton, M. Frequently, the log-normal multivariate distribution is used for modeling this type of data. This modeling approach is not appropriate for data with high asymmetry or kurtosis. Consequently, more flexible multivariate distributions than the log-normal multivariate are required. As an alternative to this distribution, we propose the log-alpha-power multivariate and log-skew-normal multivariate models. In this article, we consider the estimation of R = P(Y < X), when Y and X are two independent three-parameter Lindley (LI) random variables. On the basis of two independent samples, the modified maximum likelihood estimator along its asymptotic behavior and conditional likelihood-based estimator are used to estimate R. We also propose sample-based estimate of R and the associated credible interval based on importance sampling procedure. ABSTRACT

We present two new estimators for estimating the entropy of absolutely continuous random variables. Some properties of them are considered, specifically consistency of the first is proved. The introduced estimators are compared with the existing entropy estimators. Also, we propose two new tests for normality based on the introduced entropy estimators and compare their powers with the powers of other tests for normality. The results show that the proposed estimators and test statistics perform very well in estimating entropy and testing normality. A real example is presented and analyzed.  相似文献

In recent years the analysis of interval-censored failure time data has attracted a great deal of attention and such data arise in many fields including demographical studies, economic and financial studies, epidemiological studies, social sciences, and tumorigenicity experiments. This is especially the case in medical studies such as clinical trials. In this article, we discuss regression analysis of one type of such data, Case I interval-censored data, in the presence of left-truncation. For the problem, the additive hazards model is employed and the maximum likelihood method is applied for estimations of unknown parameters. In particular, we adopt the sieve estimation approach that approximates the baseline cumulative hazard function by linear functions. The resulting estimates of regression parameters are shown to be consistent and efficient and have an asymptotic normal distribution. An illustrative example is provided.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, causal inference in randomized studies with recurrent events data and all-or-none compliance is considered. We use the counting process to analyze the recurrent events data and propose a causal proportional intensity model. The maximum likelihood approach is adopted to estimate the parameters of the proposed causal model. To overcome the computational difficulties created by the mixture structure of the problem, we develop an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. The resulting estimators are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal. We further estimate the complier average causal effect (CACE), which is defined as the difference of the average numbers of recurrence between treatment and control groups within the complier class. The corresponding inferential procedures are established. Some simulation studies are conducted to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed approach.  相似文献
