Abstract

Let the data from the ith treatment/population follow a distribution with cumulative distribution function (cdf) F i (x) = F[(x ? μ i )/θ i ], i = 1,…, k (k ≥ 2). Here μ i (?∞ < μ i  < ∞) is the location parameter, θ i i  > 0) is the scale parameter and F(?) is any absolutely continuous cdf, i.e., F i (?) is a member of location-scale family, i = 1,…, k. In this paper, we propose a class of tests to test the null hypothesis H 0 ? θ1 = · = θ k against the simple ordered alternative H A  ? θ1 ≤ · ≤ θ k with at least one strict inequality. In literature, use of sample quasi range as a measure of dispersion has been advocated for small sample size or sample contaminated by outliers [see David, H. A. (1981). Order Statistics. 2nd ed. New York: John Wiley, Sec. 7.4]. Let X i1,…, X in be a random sample of size n from the population π i and R ir  = X i:n?r  ? X i:r+1, r = 0, 1,…, [n/2] ? 1 be the sample quasi range corresponding to this random sample, where X i:j represents the jth order statistic in the ith sample, j = 1,…, n; i = 1,…, k and [x] is the greatest integer less than or equal to x. The proposed class of tests, for the general location scale setup, is based on the statistic W r  = max1≤i<jk (R jr /R ir ). The test is reject H 0 for large values of W r . The construction of a three-decision procedure and simultaneous one-sided lower confidence bounds for the ratios, θ j i , 1 ≤ i < j ≤ k, have also been discussed with the help of the critical constants of the test statistic W r . Applications of the proposed class of tests to two parameter exponential and uniform probability models have been discussed separately with necessary tables. Comparisons of some members of our class with the tests of Gill and Dhawan [Gill A. N., Dhawan A. K. (1999). A One-sided test for testing homogeneity of scale parameters against ordered alternative. Summary.  Record linkage is a powerful tool to obtain individual follow-up information that is held in routinely collected databases. However, this method is potentially limited not only by the quality of the original data but also by the temporal and geographic coverage of the routine data. Migration in particular is a factor that might introduce systematic bias even in analyses of data covering relatively large geographical areas. We describe a linkage application where emigration bias might be an issue and use the sensitivity analysis approach that has been described by Molenberghs and co-workers and Kenward and co-workers to assess the extent of this bias.  相似文献

Survival data analysis aims at collecting data on durations spent in a state by a sample of units, in order to analyse the process of transition to a different state. Survival analysis applied to social and economic phenomena typically relies upon data on transitions collected, for a sample of units, in one or more follow-up surveys. We explore the effect of misclassification of the transition indicator on parameter estimates in an appropriate statistical model for the duration spent in an origin state. Some empirical investigations about the bias induced when ignoring misclassification are reported, extending the model to include the possibility that the rate of misclassification can vary across units according to the value of some covariates. Finally it is shown how a Bayesian approach can lead to parameter estimates.  相似文献

The effects of applying the normal classificatory rule to a nonnormal population are studied here. These are assessed through the distribution of the misclassification errors in the case of the Edgeworth type distribution. Both theoretical and empirical results are presented. An examination of the latter shows that the effects of this type of nonnormality are marginal. The probability of misclassification of an observation from ∏1, using the appropriate LR rule, is always larger than one using the normal approximation (μ1<μ2). Converse condition holds for the misclassification of an observation from ∏2. Overall error rates are not affected by the skewness factor to any great extent.  相似文献

The maximum likelihood estimator is widely used in estimating the population proportion using group testing. However, it is positive biased and some alternatives have been raised in literatures. In this study, we propose a new estimator by weighted combination of order statistics. Two rules are supplied to determine the unknown weight. Using the rule of minimizing the absolute bias, our estimator is almost unbiased in most cases shown by simulations. Using the rule of minimizing the mean square error, a simple estimator with weight 1 is recommended for its good performance.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce minimum divergence estimators of parameters of a binary response model when data are subject to false-positive misclassification and obtained using a double-sampling plan. Under this set up, the problem of goodness-of-fit is considered and divergence-based confidence intervals (CIs) for a population proportion parameter are derived. A simulation experiment is carried out to compare the coverage probabilities of the new CIs. An application to real data is also given.  相似文献

We consider response-adaptive design of clinical trials under a variance-penalized criterion in the presence of mismeasurement. An explicit expression for the variance-penalized criterion with misclassified dichotomous responses is derived for response-adaptive designs and some properties are discussed. A new target proportion of treatment allocation is proposed under the criterion and related simulation results are presented.  相似文献
