Inclusion or Exploitation? Irish Women Enter the Labour Force

This article seeks to examine the division of women into committed and uncommitted workers by gender theorists. The article uses interview data from a study of women in service sector employment in Ireland to ask how (or even if) women actually make the decision to enter the workforce and why they stay there. Moreover, we explore how some Irish women themselves experience these changes.     

Linguistic affinity and achieved geographic mobility: evidence from the recognition of non-national social work qualifications in Ireland and the UK1

This article presents statistics from the national authorities of two EU countries responsible for the recognition of non-national social work qualifications: Ireland and the United Kingdom. This material is drawn upon in an attempt to identify the role of linguistic affinity in relation to the geographic mobility of social work graduates.

北凉王段业事迹考述

段业是"五胡十六国"中北凉政权最初的统治者。本文考述了他与杜进、吕光、沮渠男成、沮渠蒙逊、秃发乌孤、秃发利鹿孤、李等人的关系,认为段业在凉州的成功首先与后凉复杂的政治及民族形势有关,而段业最后的失国亡身,除了其"儒素长者、无他权略"的性格因素外,关键在于他没能也不可能把握当时北凉错综复杂的民族关系,从而制定出有利于民族融合和民族制衡的政策。

Organizational Fields and Third Sector Housing in Ireland,North and South

This paper applies organizational field analysis to compare the structure of the third sector housing fields in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Following preliminary accounts of history, structure, funding, and regulation, four key dimensions of field structure are compared: interaction, subgroups, structural equivalence, and patterns of domination. In both fields studied, early steering by the state into specialist roles has been overtaken by state funded expansion in general needs housing--increasing the dominance of larger organizations and tensions around voluntary sector identity. However, differences remain in the extent of domination and tightness of field structure, with greater emphasis on whole organization regulation, and adherence to professional and trade bodies in Northern Ireland. It is also shown how cross-border activity and the espousal of a European model will influence future trajectories.
