ABSTRACT

Fatigue is structural damage produced by cyclic stress and tension. An important statistical model for fatigue life is the Birnbaum–Saunders distribution, which was developed to model ruptured lifetimes of metals that had been subjected to fatigue. This model has been previously generalized and in this article we extend it starting from a skew-elliptical distribution, the incorporation of the elliptical aspect makes the kurtosis flexible, and the skewness makes the asymmetry flexible. In this work we found the probability density, reliability, and hazard functions; as well as its moments and variation, skewness, and kurtosis coefficients. In addition, some properties of this new distribution were found.  相似文献

Bayesian decision problems require subjective elicitation of the inputs: beliefs and preferences. Sometimes, elicitation methods may not represent perfectly the judgements of the decision maker. Several foundations propose to overlay this problem using robust approaches. In these models, beliefs are modelled by a class of probability distributions and preferences by a class of loss functions. Then, we are in the conditions of a Pareto order. Hence the solution concept is the set of non dominated alternatives. In this article we focus on the computation of the efficient set when the preferences are modeled by a class of convex loss functions.  相似文献

We derive the ?1-limit of trimmed sums of order statistics from location-scale distributions satisfying certain assumptions. Based on this limit, an approximation to the asymptotic variance of a Best-Asymptotic-Normal (BAN) estimator for the location parameter is developed. Associated formulae are derived for four location-scale distributions commonly used in lifetime data analysis. The approximation is analyzed via the properties of the approximating function and by comparison to the exact values for a special case. Applications are illustrated by applying the approximation to comparing location parameters and to selecting the population with the largest location parameter, using censored samples from location-scale populations.  相似文献

This article considers estimation of the slope parameter of the linear regression model with Student-t errors in the presence of uncertain prior information on the value of the unknown slope. Incorporating uncertain non sample prior information with the sample data the unrestricted, restricted, preliminary test, and shrinkage estimators are defined. The performances of the estimators are compared based on the criteria of unbiasedness and mean squared errors. Both analytical and graphical methods are explored. Although none of the estimators is uniformly superior to the others, if the non sample information is close to its true value, the shrinkage estimator over performs the rest of the estimators.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to investigate estimation and hypothesis testing by maximum likelihood and method of moments in functional models within the class of elliptical symmetric distributions. The main results encompass consistency and asymptotic normality of the method of moments estimators. Also, the asymptotic covariance matrix of the maximum likelihood estimator is derived, extending some existing results in elliptical distributions. A measure of asymptotic relative efficiency is reported. Wald-type statistics are considered and numerical results obtained by Monte Carlo simulation to investigate the performance of estimators and tests are provided for Student-t and contaminated normal distributions. In this article, we study some results related to a specific class of distributions, called skew-curved-symmetric family of distributions that depends on a parameter controlling the skewness and kurtosis at the same time. Special elements of this family which are studied include symmetric and well-known asymmetric distributions. General results are given for the score function and the observed information matrix. It is shown that the observed information matrix is always singular for some special cases. We illustrate the flexibility of this class of distributions with an application to a real dataset on characteristics of Australian athletes.  相似文献

For a class of discrete distributions, including Poisson(θ), Generalized Poisson(θ), Borel(m, θ), etc., we consider minimax estimation of the parameter θ under the assumption it lies in a bounded interval of the form [0, m] and a LINEX loss function. Explicit conditions for the minimax estimator to be Bayes with respect to a boundary supported prior are given. Also for Bernoulli(θ)-distribution, which is not in the mentioned class of discrete distributions, we give conditions for which the Bayes estimator of θ ∈ [0, m], m < 1 with respect to a boundary supported prior is minimax under LINEX loss function. Numerical values are given for the largest values of m for which the corresponding Bayes estimators of θ are minimax.  相似文献

A single parametric form is given for the symmetric distributions in the Pearson system with finite variance. In effect, these are Student's t-distributions with ν > 2 and all centered symmetric beta distributions.
