Some asymptotic results on generalized penalized spline smoothing   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Summary.  The paper discusses asymptotic properties of penalized spline smoothing if the spline basis increases with the sample size. The proof is provided in a generalized smoothing model allowing for non-normal responses. The results are extended in two ways. First, assuming the spline coefficients to be a priori normally distributed links the smoothing framework to generalized linear mixed models. We consider the asymptotic rates such that the Laplace approximation is justified and the resulting fits in the mixed model correspond to penalized spline estimates. Secondly, we make use of a fully Bayesian viewpoint by imposing an a priori distribution on all parameters and coefficients. We argue that with the postulated rates at which the spline basis dimension increases with the sample size the posterior distribution of the spline coefficients is approximately normal. The validity of this result is investigated in finite samples by comparing Markov chain Monte Carlo results with their asymptotic approximation in a simulation study.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose the application of group screening methods for analyzing data using E(fNOD)-optimal mixed-level supersaturated designs possessing the equal occurrence property. Supersaturated designs are a large class of factorial designs which can be used for screening out the important factors from a large set of potentially active variables. The huge advantage of these designs is that they reduce the experimental cost drastically, but their critical disadvantage is the high degree of confounding among factorial effects. Based on the idea of the group screening methods, the f factors are sub-divided into g “group-factors”. The “group-factors” are then studied using the penalized likelihood statistical analysis methods at a factorial design with orthogonal or near-orthogonal columns. All factors in groups found to have a large effect are then studied in a second stage of experiments. A comparison of the Type I and Type II error rates of various estimation methods via simulation experiments is performed. The results are presented in tables and discussion follows.  相似文献

Summary. It is occasionally necessary to smooth data over domains in R 2 with complex irregular boundaries or interior holes. Traditional methods of smoothing which rely on the Euclidean metric or which measure smoothness over the entire real plane may then be inappropriate. This paper introduces a bivariate spline smoothing function defined as the minimizer of a penalized sum-of-squares functional. The roughness penalty is based on a partial differential operator and is integrated only over the problem domain by using finite element analysis. The method is motivated by and applied to two sample smoothing problems and is compared with the thin plate spline.  相似文献

Nonparametric additive models are powerful techniques for multivariate data analysis. Although many procedures have been developed for estimating additive components both in mean regression and quantile regression, the problem of selecting relevant components has not been addressed much especially in quantile regression. We present a doubly-penalized estimation procedure for component selection in additive quantile regression models that combines basis function approximation with a ridge-type penalty and a variant of the smoothly clipped absolute deviation penalty. We show that the proposed estimator identifies relevant and irrelevant components consistently and achieves the nonparametric optimal rate of convergence for the relevant components. We also provide an accurate and efficient computation algorithm to implement the estimator and demonstrate its performance through simulation studies. Finally, we illustrate our method via a real data example to identify important body measurements to predict percentage of body fat of an individual.  相似文献

Model selection and estimation are crucial parts of econometrics. This article introduces a new technique that can simultaneously estimate and select the model in generalized method of moments (GMM) context. The GMM is particularly powerful for analyzing complex datasets such as longitudinal and panel data, and it has wide applications in econometrics. This article extends the least squares based adaptive elastic net estimator by Zou and Zhang to nonlinear equation systems with endogenous variables. The extension is not trivial and involves a new proof technique due to estimators’ lack of closed-form solutions. Compared to Bridge-GMM by Caner, we allow for the number of parameters to diverge to infinity as well as collinearity among a large number of variables; also, the redundant parameters are set to zero via a data-dependent technique. This method has the oracle property, meaning that we can estimate nonzero parameters with their standard limit and the redundant parameters are dropped from the equations simultaneously. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the performance of the new method.  相似文献

A brief history of the early years (1820-1947) of random effects models and the estimation of variance components is followed by a personal evaluation of M.L, REML and MINQUE estimation. A method is suggested for combining ML estimator obtained from subsets of a large data set, and comments are made on the need for simulation studies to assess the degree of approximation in using asymptotic properties of ML-type estimators as if they were exact for finite-sized unbalanced data sets.  相似文献

Adaptive choice of smoothing parameters for nonparametric Poisson regression (O'Sullivan et al., 1986 O'Sullivan , F. , Yandell , B. S. , Raynor , W. J., Jr. ( 1986 ). Automatic smoothing of regression functions in generalized linear models . J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 81 : 96103 . A computable approximation of the unbiased risk estimate (AUBR) for Poisson regression is introduced. This approximation can be used to automatically tune the smoothing parameter for the penalized likelihood estimator. An alternative choice is the generalized approximate cross validation (GACV) proposed by Xiang and Wahba (1996 Xiang , D. , Wahba , G. ( 1996 ). Although GACV enjoys a great success in practice when applying for nonparametric logisitic regression, its performance for Poisson regression is not clear. Numerical simulations have been conducted to evaluate the GACV and AUBR based tuning methods. We found that GACV has a tendency to oversmooth the data when the intensity function is small. As a consequence, we suggest tuning the smoothing parameter using AUBR in practice.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of hazard rate estimation in the presence of covariates, for survival data with censoring indicators missing at random. We propose in the context usually denoted by MAR (missing at random, in opposition to MCAR, missing completely at random, which requires an additional independence assumption), nonparametric adaptive strategies based on model selection methods for estimators admitting finite dimensional developments in functional orthonormal bases. Theoretical risk bounds are provided, they prove that the estimators behave well in term of mean square integrated error (MISE). Simulation experiments illustrate the statistical procedure.  相似文献

 在颇具争议的收入差距和健康关系研究中,为了降低可能存在的模型设定和遗漏变量偏误,本文提出了随机效应半参数logit模型,其中非参数的设定还可用于数据的初探性分析。随后本文提出了模型非参数和参数部分的估计方法。这里涉及的难点是随机效应的存在导致似然函数中的积分没有解析式,而非参数的存在更加大了估计难度。本文基于惩罚样条非参数估计方法和四阶Laplace近似方法建立了惩罚对数似然函数,其最大化采用了Newton_Raphson近似方法。文章还建立了惩罚样条中重要光滑参数的选取准则。模型在收入差距和健康实例中的估计结果表明数据支持收入差距弱假说,且非参数估计结果表明其具有U型形式,与实例估计结果的比较指出本文提出的估计方法是较准确的。  相似文献
