A sequential version of Cramér-Rao type information inequality is obtained and all the 'efficient' triples (S, f, g) are characterized: the variance of an unbiased estimator f for g attains the lower bound under a sampling plan S. A Bayesian reference analysis for determining the posterior distribution of the strength of a radiation source is performed. The only pieces of information available are the numbers of counts gathered in a gross and a background measurement along with the respective counting times and a state-of-knowledge distribution for the efficiency. This situation is addressed by combining the calculations of a “one-at-a-time” reference prior and a reference prior with partial information. The posterior distribution of the source strength obtained with the reference prior leads to credible intervals that have better frequentist coverage than corresponding intervals founded on uniform or Jeffreys’ priors. 相似文献

A number of tests of the proportional hazards hypothesis have been proposed in the past. In recent years, researchers have proposed tests geared specially for the alternative hypothesis of increasing hazard ratio, keeping in mind the case of crossing hazards. This alternative may be too restrictive in many situations. In this paper we develop a test of the proportional hazards model for the weaker increasing cumulative hazard ratio alternative. The work is motivated by a data analytic example given by Gill & Schumacher (1987) where their test fails to reject the null hypothesis even though the faster ageing of one group is quite apparent from a plot. The normalized test statistic proposed here has an asymptotically normal distribution under either hypothesis. We also present two graphical methods related to our analytical test. 相似文献

Abstract. In any epidemic, there may exist an unidentified subpopulation which might be naturally immune or isolated and who will not be involved in the transmission of the disease. Estimation of key parameters, for example, the basic reproductive number, without accounting for this possibility would underestimate the severity of the epidemics. Here, we propose a procedure to estimate the basic reproductive number ( R 0 ) in an epidemic model with an unknown initial number of susceptibles. The infection process is usually not completely observed, but is reconstructed by a kernel‐smoothing method under a counting process framework. Simulation is used to evaluate the performance of the estimators for major epidemics. We illustrate the procedure using the Abakaliki smallpox data. 相似文献

This article proposes a bivariate generalization of the noncentral negative binomial distribution which arises as a model in photon and neural counting. This bivariate generalization is derived as a mixed shifted bivariate negative binomial distribution. Various properties and parameter estimation, especially by a minimum distance method based on the probability generating function, are considered. To show the practical usefulness of the bivariate distribution proposed, an application to model low-flux astronomical images is discussed and a real data set has been analyzed. 相似文献

A multiplicative bias reducing technique is introduced for kernel hazard estimation. Similar methods were introduced by Linton & Nielsen (1994) in non-parametric regression and Jones et al .
