It is common for a linear regression model that the error terms display some form of heteroscedasticity and at the same time, the regressors are also linearly correlated. Both of these problems have serious impact on the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimates. In the presence of heteroscedasticity, the OLS estimator becomes inefficient and the similar adverse impact can also be found on the ridge regression estimator that is alternatively used to cope with the problem of multicollinearity. In the available literature, the adaptive estimator has been established to be more efficient than the OLS estimator when there is heteroscedasticity of unknown form. The present article proposes the similar adaptation for the ridge regression setting with an attempt to have more efficient estimator. Our numerical results, based on the Monte Carlo simulations, provide very attractive performance of the proposed estimator in terms of efficiency. Three different existing methods have been used for the selection of biasing parameter. Moreover, three different distributions of the error term have been studied to evaluate the proposed estimator and these are normal, Student's t and F distribution.  相似文献

The problem of estimating the Poisson mean is considered based on the two samples in the presence of uncertain prior information (not in the form of distribution) that two independent random samples taken from two possibly identical Poisson populations. The parameter of interest is λ1 from population I. Three estimators, i.e. the unrestricted estimator, restricted estimator and preliminary test estimator are proposed. Their asymptotic mean squared errors are derived and compared; parameter regions have been found for which restricted and preliminary test estimators are always asymptotically more efficient than the classical estimator. The relative dominance picture of the estimators is presented. Maximum and minimum asymptotic efficiencies of the estimators relative to the classical estimator are tabulated. A max-min rule for the size of the preliminary test is also discussed. A Monte Carlo study is presented to compare the performance of the estimator with that of Kale and Bancroft (1967).  相似文献

Abstract

We consider adaptive ridge regression estimators in the general linear model with homogeneous spherically symmetric errors. A restriction on the parameter of regression is considered. We assume that all components are non negative (i.e. on the positive orthant). For this setting, we produce under general quadratic loss such estimators whose risk function dominates that of the least squares provided the number of regressors in the least fore.  相似文献

Trimmed samples are commonly used in several branches of statistical methodology, especially when the presence of contaminated data is suspected. Assuming that certain proportions of the smallest and largest observations from a Weibull sample are unknown or have been eliminated, a Bayesian approach to point and interval estimation of the scale parameter, as well as hypothesis testing and prediction, is presented. In many cases, the use of substantial prior information can significantly increase the quality of the inferences and reduce the amount of testing required. Some Bayes estimators and predictors are derived in closed-forms. Highest posterior density estimators and credibility intervals can be computed using iterative methods. Bayes rules for testing one- and two-sided hypotheses are also provided. An illustrative numerical example is included.  相似文献

A failure model with damage accumulation is considered. Damages occur according to a Poisson process and they degenerate into failures in a random time. The rate of the Poisson process and the degeneration time distribution are unknown. Two sample populations are available: a sample of intervals between damages and a sample of degeneration times. The case of small samples is considered. The purpose is to estimate the expectation and the distribution of the number of damages and failures at time t. We consider the plug-in and resampling estimators of the above mentioned characteristics. The expectations and variances of the suggested estimators are investigated. A common practical situation in process capability analysis, which is not well developed theoretically, is when the quality characteristic of interest has a skewed distribution with a long tail towards relatively large values and an upper specification limit only exists. In such situations, it is not uncommon that the smallest possible value of the characteristic is 0 and this is also the best value to obtain. Hence a target value 0 is assumed to exist. We investigate a new class of process capability indices for this situation. Two estimators of the proposed index are studied and the asymptotic distributions of these estimators are derived. Furthermore, we suggest a decision procedure useful when drawing conclusions about the capability at a given significance level, based on the estimated indices and their asymptotic distributions. A simulation study is also performed, assuming that the quality characteristic is Weibull-distributed, to investigate the true significance level when the sample size is finite.  相似文献

In this paper, under Type-I progressive hybrid censoring sample, we obtain maximum likelihood estimator of unknown parameter when the parent distribution belongs to proportional hazard rate family. We derive the conditional probability density function of the maximum likelihood estimator using moment-generating function technique. The exact confidence interval is obtained and compared by conducting a Monte Carlo simulation study for burr Type XII distribution. Finally, we obtain the Bayes and posterior regret gamma minimax estimates of the parameter under a precautionary loss function with precautionary index k = 2 and compare their behavior via a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

This paper considers a test of equality of regression curves using a Gâteaux score statistic constructed through the derivative of the likelihood function. Judicious choices of the scores allow the proposed procedure to be generalized so that it can be used even with some long-tailed error distributions. It is well known that the joint distribution of a pair of random variables ( X,Y ) is not identifiable on the basis of the joint distribution of the function (min ( X,Y ), 1[ X < Y ]). This paper introduces the concept of approximate identifiability and studies its relevance to the function (min ( X,Y ), Y ). It shows that the distribution of ( X,Y ) is approximately identifiable on the basis of the distribution of (min ( X,Y ), Y ). The identification is explicitly executed by a method of moments. The method is applied to the analysis of censored distributions arising in the theory of clinical trials and is compared to the standard method of Kaplan and Meier.  相似文献
