SOME THOUGHTS ON THE RELEVANCE OF THE WORK OF D. W. WINNICOTT FOR PRESENT DAY SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE WITH ADULTS

The work of D. W. Winnicott is of topical relevance and value to current social work students who are learning to work with adult service users. Winnicott's theories and ideas on essential matters like reliability and proper listening are raised, together with issues of ambivalence, and some implications for inter‐professional practice. Winnicott is clear, accessible and meaningful in practice terms, which is what social work students crave.     

Estimation of parameters of inverse Weibull distribution and application to multi-component stress-strength model

The problem of estimation of the parameters of two-parameter inverse Weibull distributions has been considered. We establish existence and uniqueness of the maximum likelihood estimators of the scale and shape parameters. We derive Bayes estimators of the parameters under the entropy loss function. Hierarchical Bayes estimator, equivariant estimator and a class of minimax estimators are derived when shape parameter is known. Ordered Bayes estimators using information about second population are also derived. We investigate the reliability of multi-component stress-strength model using classical and Bayesian approaches. Risk comparison of the classical and Bayes estimators is done using Monte Carlo simulations. Applications of the proposed estimators are shown using real data sets.     

产品质量内部性问题的政府管制

文章引入了对产品质量的分析,将产品质量和数量作为并列的因素进行考察,着重分析了产品质量的内部性问题,并进一步提出了单纯的较大的交易成本和单纯的不对称信息,都不能解释产品质量内部性问题产生的根源,与信息不对称紧密联系的较大的交易成本才是其根源。如何降低这种交易成本就成为政府对产品质量内部性进行管制,提高消费者福利水平的管制重点。     

关系保持策略量表在中国人群中的初步试用

为了满足亲密关系的研究和婚姻家庭心理咨询的实际需要，对国外该领域中广泛采用的“关系保持策略量表”（RMSM）进行了翻译和修订，并使用一个包含246名被试的样本对该量表的信效度进行了检验。统计分析表明，修订后的中文版RMSM具有较高的信度和效度，符合心理测量学的基本要求。使用中文版RMSM，以818名已婚人士为研究对象，对中国人的关系保持策略特点进行了调查。结果表明：性别、文化程度、家庭收入、年龄、结婚年限、子女等因素都会影响中国人婚姻关系保持策略。     

Efficient Bayesian sampling plans for exponential distributions with type-I-censored samples

The aim of this paper is to introduce an efficient Bayesian sampling procedure for exponential distribution with type-I censoring. An online inspection method is suggested to reach a Bayes decision prior the termination time of life test. Bayesian sampling plans (BSPs) with quadratic loss function are established to illustrate the use of the proposed method. Some BSPs are tabulated, and the performance of the proposed BSPs is compared with two existing competitive methods. Numerical results indicate that a significant reduction in the experimental time over the conventional BSP can be achieved when the online inspection method is applied.     

Keeping Surveys Valid,Reliable, and Useful: A Tutorial

This tutorial focuses on how to produce reliable and generalizable data from random‐digit‐dialing (RDD) landline and cell phone surveys. The article notes that RDD response rates have declined and explores the impact of this pronounced decline. The tutorial addresses order, response mode, and many other biases, sample size, cooperation and response rates, weighting, and hybrid designs‐all using examples from risk analysis to illustrate the key points. The article ends with a brief review of the advantages and disadvantages of major Internet and paper surveys tools, and how these can be molded and sometimes combined in repeated, longitudinal, and other designs to answer questions about risk preferences and perceptions.     

The umvue and bayes estimate of reliability of mixed failure time distribution

We study the reliability estimates of the non-standard mixture of degenerate (degenerated at zero) and exponential distributions. The Uniformly Minimum Variance Unbiased Estimator (UMVUE) and Bayes estimator of the reliability for some selective prior when the mixing proportion is known and unknown are derived. The Bayes risk is computed for each Bayes estimator of the reliability. A simulated study is carried out to assess the performance of the estimators alongwith the true and Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE) of the reliability. An example from Vannman (1991) is also discussed at the end of the paper.     

Visualizing the factory through meta- manufacturing processes

Milestone or deadline driven production management is predominant in most manufacturing companies. Problems and other disturbing occurrences tend to see their first daylight during phases where plans are implemented into reality, for example, when production commences, prototypes enter manufacturing and deliveries are expected. Conventional control routines fail to depict the true progress and procedures of the company on an on-line basis, which means that instead of being proactive they serve as means to react to already existing problems. This paper studies the application of advanced visualization techniques to the already existing information embedded in a comany's information infrastructure, and how it can help management to anticipate probable near future pitfalls. By studying those daily operations of a company which share a document relationship with the true manufacturing process, that is, the meta-manufacturing processes, a completely new perspective on the company's value-adding activities is drawn. By mining the existing data reservoirs of a company traditionally difficult management processes, such as product development, vendor integration, production planning, can be analysed and the problems identified in a novel way to react in advance. The paper displays several empirical examples from bulk to one-of-a-kind production where the method has been successfully implemented.     

Hazard functions and life distributions in discrete time

The problem of studying lifelength distributions in discrete time is considered for certain forms of hazard functions. A class of life distributions that consists of the geometric, the Waring and the negative hypergeometric distributions is shown to result when the hazard function is inversely proportional to some linear function of time.     

Developing and Testing a Satisfaction Survey for Nursing Home Residents

Abstract

Input from consumers has become an important part of quality improvement in long-term care and for consumer decision-making. This paper documents the development of the Ohio Nursing Home Resident Satisfaction Survey (ONHRSS) through a partnership of state government, research, and industry experts. The instrument was tested and refined through two waves of data—a pretest phase and later with statewide data. Exploratory and confirmatory analyses with statewide data identified eight primary factors along with an underlying, secondary Global Satisfaction factor. Reliability of the domains ranged from .69 to .95. Recommendations for further refinement and testing of the instrument are discussed along with policy and practice implications.
