This article proposes a simulation-based density estimation technique for time series that exploits information found in covariate data. The method can be paired with a large range of parametric models used in time series estimation. We derive asymptotic properties of the estimator and illustrate attractive finite sample properties for a range of well-known econometric and financial applications.  相似文献

Log Gaussian Cox processes as introduced in Moller et al. (1998) are extended to space-time models called log Gaussian Cox birth processes. These processes allow modelling of spatial and temporal heterogeneity in time series of increasing point processes consisting of different types of points. The models are shown to be easy to analyse yet flexible enough for a detailed statistical analysis of a particular agricultural experiment concerning the development of two weed species on an organic barley field. Particularly, the aspects of estimation, model validation and intensity surface prediction are discussed.  相似文献

A common assumption for data analysis in functional magnetic resonance imaging is that the response signal can be modelled as the convolution of a haemodynamic response (HDR) kernel with a stimulus reference function. Early approaches modelled spatially constant HDR kernels, but more recently spatially varying models have been proposed. However, convolution limits the flexibility of these models and their ability to capture spatial variation. Here, a range of (nonlinear) parametric curves are fitted by least squares minimisation directly to individual voxel HDRs (i.e., without using convolution). A ‘constrained gamma curve’ is proposed as an efficient form for fitting the HDR at each individual voxel. This curve allows for spatial variation in the delay of the HDR, but places a global constraint on the temporal spread. The approach of directly fitting individual parameters of HDR shape is demonstrated to lead to an improved fit of response estimates.  相似文献

Summary.  Microarrays are one of the most widely used high throughput technologies. One of the main problems in the area is that conventional estimates of the variances that are required in the t -statistic and other statistics are unreliable owing to the small number of replications. Various methods have been proposed in the literature to overcome this lack of degrees of freedom problem. In this context, it is commonly observed that the variance increases proportionally with the intensity level, which has led many researchers to assume that the variance is a function of the mean. Here we concentrate on estimation of the variance as a function of an unknown mean in two models: the constant coefficient of variation model and the quadratic variance–mean model. Because the means are unknown and estimated with few degrees of freedom, naive methods that use the sample mean in place of the true mean are generally biased because of the errors-in-variables phenomenon. We propose three methods for overcoming this bias. The first two are variations on the theme of the so-called heteroscedastic simulation–extrapolation estimator, modified to estimate the variance function consistently. The third class of estimators is entirely different, being based on semiparametric information calculations. Simulations show the power of our methods and their lack of bias compared with the naive method that ignores the measurement error. The methodology is illustrated by using microarray data from leukaemia patients.  相似文献

Abstract.  We consider a data set on nosocomial infections of patients hospitalized in a French intensive care facility. Patients may suffer from recurrent infections of different types and they also have a high risk of death. To deal with such situations, a model of recurrent events with competing risks and a terminal event is introduced. Our aim was to compare the occurrence rates of two types of events. For this purpose, we propose two tests: one to detect if the occurrence rate of a given type of event increases with time; a second to detect if the instantaneous probability of experiencing an event of a given type is always greater than the one of another type. The asymptotic properties of the test statistics are derived and Monte Carlo methods are used to study the power of the tests. Finally, the procedures developed are applied to the French nosocomial infections data set.  相似文献

The property of identifiability is an important consideration on estimating the parameters in a mixture of distributions. Also classification of a random variable based on a mixture can be meaning fully discussed only if the class of all finite mixtures is identifiable. The problem of identifiability of finite mixture of Gompertz distributions is studied. A procedure is presented for finding maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters of a mixture of two Gompertz distributions, using classified and unclassified observations. Based on small sample size, estimation of a nonlinear discriminant function is considered. Throughout simulation experiments, the performance of the corresponding estimated nonlinear discriminant function is investigated.  相似文献

We propose in this article a novel dimension reduction method for varying coefficient models. The proposed method explores the rank reducible structure of those varying coefficients, hence, can do dimension reduction and semiparametric estimation, simultaneously. As a result, the new method not only improves estimation accuracy but also facilitates practical interpretation. To determine the structure dimension, a consistent BIC criterion is developed. The authors consider a partially linear autoregressive model and construct kernel‐based estimates for both the parametric and nonparametric components. They propose an estimation procedure for the model and illustrate it through simulated and real data. Their work shows that the proposed estimation procedure not only has good asymptotic properties but also works well numerically. It also suggests that a partially linear autoregression is more appropriate than a completely nonparametric autoregression for some sets of data.  相似文献

When spatial data are correlated, currently available data‐driven smoothing parameter selection methods for nonparametric regression will often fail to provide useful results. The authors propose a method that adjusts the generalized cross‐validation criterion for the effect of spatial correlation in the case of bivariate local polynomial regression. Their approach uses a pilot fit to the data and the estimation of a parametric covariance model. The method is easy to implement and leads to improved smoothing parameter selection, even when the covariance model is misspecified. The methodology is illustrated using water chemistry data collected in a survey of lakes in the Northeastern United States.  相似文献

Prakasa Rao obtained the asymptotic distribution of this estimator at a fixed point x where f' (x) < 0. Here, we obtain the asymptotic distribution of this estimator at a fixed point x when f is constant and nonzero in some open neighborhood of x. This limiting distribution is expressible as the convolution of a closed-form density and a rescaled standard normal density.
