A study of the Gamma-Pareto (IV) distribution and its applications

ABSTRACT

Pareto distributions and their close relatives and generalizations provide very flexible families of heavy-tailed distributions that may be used to model income distributions as well as a wide variety of other social and economic distributions. On the other hand, gamma distribution has a wide application in various social and economic spheres such as survival analysis, to model aggregate insurance claims, and the amount of rainfall accumulated in a reservoir etc. Combining the above two heavy-tailed distributions, using the technique by Alzaatreh et al. (2012 Alzaatreh, A., Famoye, F., Lee, C. (2012). Gamma-Pareto distribution and its applications. J. Modern Appl. Stat. Methods. 11:78–94.[Crossref] , [Google Scholar]), we define a new distribution, namely Gamma-Pareto (IV) distribution, hereafter called as GPD^(IV) distribution. Various properties of the GPD^(IV) are investigated such as limiting behavior, moments, mode, and Shannon entropy. Also some characterizations of the GPD^(IV) distribution are mentioned in this paper. Maximum likelihood method is proposed for estimating the model parameters. For illustrative purposes, real data sets are considered as applications of the GPD^(IV) distribution.

ADR作为一种非诉讼纠纷解决机制,具有低成本、高效率、灵活性、易执行的特点,与诉讼方式并行不悖.在我国经济转型时期,ADR机制有助于实现和谐的市场经济秩序,与经济法纠纷的复合性、新型性、技术性等特征契合,弥补了司法诉讼途径解决经济纠纷的不足,对于完善经济法纠纷解决机制具有重大意义.实践中,仍需解决ADR机制在经济法纠纷解决中的有效性和规范化问题,实现与国家司法权的协调互动.     

Designing fractional factorial split-plot experiments with few whole-plot factors

Summary.  When it is impractical to perform the experimental runs of a fractional factorial design in a completely random order, restrictions on the randomization can be imposed. The resulting design is said to have a split-plot, or nested, error structure. Similarly to fractional factorials, fractional factorial split-plot designs can be ranked by using the aberration criterion. Techniques that generate the required designs systematically presuppose unreplicated settings of the whole-plot factors. We use a cheese-making experiment to demonstrate the practical relevance of designs with replicated settings of these factors. We create such designs by splitting the whole plots according to one or more subplot effects. We develop a systematic method to generate the required designs and we use the method to create a table of designs that is likely to be useful in practice.

Characterization of Balanced Fractional 3 m Factorial Designs of Resolution III

We consider a fractional 3 ^m factorial design derived from a simple array (SA), which is a balanced array of full strength, where the non negligible factorial effects are the general mean and the linear and quadratic components of the main effect, and m ≥ 2. In this article, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for an SA to be a balanced fractional 3 ^m factorial design of resolution III. Such a design is characterized by the suffixes of indices of an SA.     

OPTIMAL IV ESTIMATION OF SYSTEMS WITH STOCHASTIC REGRESSORS AND VAR DISTURBANCES WITH APPLICATIONS TO DYNAMIC SYSTEMS

This paper considers the general problem of Feasible Generalized Least Squares Instrumental Variables (FGLS IV) estimation using optimal instruments. First we summarize the sufficient conditions for the FGLS IV estimator to be asymptotically equivalent to an optimal GLS IV estimator. Then we specialize to stationary dynamic systems with stationary VAR errors, and use the sufficient conditions to derive new moment conditions for these models. These moment conditions produce useful IVs from the lagged endogenous variables, despite the correlation between errors and endogenous variables. This use of the information contained in the lagged endogenous variables expands the class of IV estimators under consideration and thereby potentially improves both asymptotic and small-sample efficiency of the optimal IV estimator in the class. Some Monte Carlo experiments compare the new methods with those of Hatanaka (1976). For the DGP used in the Monte Carlo experiments, asymptotic efficiency is strictly improved by the new IVs, and experimental small-sample efficiency is improved as well.     

Spurious Instrumental Variables

Spurious regression phenomenon has been recognized for a wide range of Data Generating Processes: driftless unit roots, unit roots with drift, long memory, trend and broken-trend stationarity, etc. The usual framework is Ordinary Least Squares. We show that the spurious phenomenon also occurs in Instrumental Variables estimation when using non stationary variables, whether the non stationarity component is stochastic or deterministic. Finite sample evidence supports the asymptotic results.
