Sequential sampling in the search for new shared species

In microbial sciences, as well as other disciplines, it is often valuable to sample communities in a sequential or group sequential manner, in order to determine their structure or their similarity. We develop sequential sampling procedures to accomplish this by first assuming that one observation is drawn with replacement from each population at a time. Suppose that the sampling is terminated after n pairs of observations and k shared species were discovered, and assume that we receive payoff h(k)−cn, where h(k) is non-decreasing and the sampling cost c is non-negative. Similar to Rasmussen and Starr (1979), we show that an optimal stopping rule exists if h(k+1)−h(k) is non-increasing. An analogous result holds for group sequential sampling. This leads to using an estimate of the probability of discovering new shared species as a stopping indicator for comparing two populations with respect to the similarity index. We show by simulation and real examples that this is a feasible approach which can help to reduce the sample size.

一种改进的CBR案例检索相似性度量模型

案例相似性度量是基于案例推理(CBR)的突发事件应急决策管理的关键问题。本文基于最近邻算法,提出一种改进的案例相似性度量模型。提出结构相似度度量缺失数据对于案例结构特征相似性的影响,引入变异系数度量案例属性的可替代性,精确描述替代程度不同的属性对于案例相似性的贡献。最后通过具体案例检索实例验证了该模型的有效性。     

英语与德语语音、形态及句法的相似性对比研究

英语与德语联系紧密,如何帮助英语学习者更好更快地学习德语,成为语言之间对比研究的重点。语言内的象似性是把语言能指与所指联系直观展现出来的关键。本文从英语与德语的语言基础出发,通过分析比较得出以下结论：英语与德语在语音、形态及句法层面上具有相似性。     

“龙象之争”与“龙象共舞” ————基于出口技术结构的中印贸易关系分析

 基于按SITC REV.2 3位数分类的中印两国的出口产品数据,本文分析两国出口贸易结构的变化,计算两国贸易竞争力、贸易互补性、相似性指数以及出口贸易的技术复杂度,探讨了两国之间的贸易关系。中印两国的出口贸易结构都在不断优化,技术水平在不断上升,但中国出口贸易技术结构改善程度远高于印度。中印在出口贸易结构、贸易品的技术层次方面存在差异,两国之间并不构成完全的贸易竞争,而是存在明显上升的互补性趋势。因此中印之间建立自由贸易区,有利于扩大双方的贸易和投资规模,发挥优势互补,促进产业结构调整和技术水平提升,达到“双赢”的局面。

A new scalable leader-community detection approach for community detection in social networks

Studying social influence in networks is crucial to understand how behavior spreads. An interesting number of theories were elaborated to analyze how innovations and trends get adopted. The traditional view assumes that a minority of members in a society possess qualities that make them exceptionally persuasive in spreading ideas to others. These exceptional individuals drive trends on behalf of the majority of ordinary people. They are loosely described as being informed, respected, and well connected. The leaders or influential are responsible for the dissemination of information and the propagation of influence. In this paper, we propose a new scalable and a deterministic approach for the detection of communities using leaders nodes named Leader-Community Detection Approach LCDA. The proposed approach has two main steps. The first step is the leaders’ retrieval. The second step is the community detection using similarity between nodes. Our algorithms provide good results compared to ground truth membership community.

Global Markov models for eukaryote nucleotide data

We discuss the quite remarkable global Markovian structure of the nucleotides in eukaryotic DNA strands with special emphasis on (i) the similarity property for intra- species chromosomes and (ii) the reversibility property for the two (complementary) strands of a chromosome.
