In our previous work, we developed a new distance function based on a derivative and showed that our algorithm is effective. In contrast to well-known measures from the literature, our approach considers the general shape of a time series rather than standard distance of function (value) comparison. The new distance was used in classification with the nearest neighbor rule. Now we improve on our previous technique by adding the second derivative. In order to provide a comprehensive comparison, we conducted a set of experiments, testing effectiveness on 47 time series datasets from a wide variety of application domains. Our experiments show that this new method provides a significantly more accurate classification on the examined datasets.  相似文献

The article concerns tests for normality based on the Shapiro–Wilk W statistic. The constants in the test statistic are recalculated as those given in Shapiro and Wilk are incorrect. The empirical significance levels and power of improved tests have been evaluated in simulation study and compared to original ones. The improved tests were also applied to the multivariate case. In this case, we consider two implementations of the W statistic, the first one proposed by Srivastava and Hui and the other by Hanusz and Tarasinska. Empirical size of tests and their power have been compared to the Henze–Zirkler test.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A common Bayesian hierarchical model is where high-dimensional observed data depend on high-dimensional latent variables that, in turn, depend on relatively few hyperparameters. When the full conditional distribution over latent variables has a known form, general MCMC sampling need only be performed on the low-dimensional marginal posterior distribution over hyperparameters. This improves on popular Gibbs sampling that computes over the full space. Sampling the marginal posterior over hyperparameters exhibits good scaling of compute cost with data size, particularly when that distribution depends on a low-dimensional sufficient statistic.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

On the basis of Csiszar's φ-divergence discrimination information, we propose a measure of discrepancy between equilibriums associated with two distributions. Proving that a distribution can be characterized by associated equilibrium distribution, a Renyi distance of the equilibrium distributions is constructed that made us to propose an EDF-based goodness-of-fit test for exponential distribution. For comparing the performance of the proposed test, some well-known EDF-based tests and some entropy-based tests are considered. Based on the simulation results, the proposed test has better powers than those of competing entropy-based tests for the alternatives with decreasing hazard rate function. The use of the proposed test is evaluated in an illustrative example.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A general class of models for discrete and/or continuous responses is proposed in which joint distributions are constructed via the conditional approach. It is assumed that the distributions of one response and of the other response given the first one belong to exponential family of distributions. Furthermore, the marginal means are related to the covariates by link functions and a dependency structure between the responses is inserted into the model. Estimation methods, diagnostic analysis and a simulation study considering a Bernoulli-exponential model, a particular case of the class, are presented. Abstract

We introduce a new family of distributions using truncated discrete Linnik distribution. This family is a rich family of distributions which includes many important families of distributions such as Marshall–Olkin family of distributions, family of distributions generated through truncated negative binomial distribution, family of distributions generated through truncated discrete Mittag–Leffler distribution etc. Some properties of the new family of distributions are derived. A particular case of the family, a five parameter generalization of Weibull distribution, namely discrete Linnik Weibull distribution is given special attention. This distribution is a generalization of many distributions, such as extended exponentiated Weibull, exponentiated Weibull, Weibull truncated negative binomial, generalized exponential truncated negative binomial, Marshall-Olkin extended Weibull, Marshall–Olkin generalized exponential, exponential truncated negative binomial, Marshall–Olkin exponential and generalized exponential. The shape properties, moments, median, distribution of order statistics, stochastic ordering and stress–strength properties of the new generalized Weibull distribution are derived. The unknown parameters of the distribution are estimated using maximum likelihood method. The discrete Linnik Weibull distribution is fitted to a survival time data set and it is shown that the distribution is more appropriate than other competitive models.  相似文献

Two families of parameter estimation procedures for the stable laws based on a variant of the characteristic function are provided. The methodology which produces viable computational procedures for the stable laws is generally applicable to other families of distributions across a variety of settings. Both families of procedures may be described as a modified weighted chi-squared minimization procedure, and both explicitly take account of constraints on the parameter space. Influence func-tions for and efficiencies of the estimators are given. If x1, x2, …xn random sample from an unknown distribution F , a method for determining the stable law to which F is attracted is developed. Procedures for regression and autoregres-sion with stable error structure are provided. A number of examples are given.  相似文献

Whereas large-sample properties of the estimators of survival distributions using censored data have been studied by many authors, exact results for small samples have been difficult to obtain. In this paper we obtain the exact expression for the ath moment (a > 0) of the Bayes estimator of survival distribution using the censored data under proportional hazard model. Using the exact expression we compute the exact mean, variance and MSE of the Bayes estimator. Also two estimators ofthe mean survival time based on the Kaplan-Meier estimator and the Bayes estimator are compared for small samples under proportional hazards.  相似文献

In this paper a specification strategy is proposed for the determination of the orders in ARMA models. The strategy is based on two newly defined concepts: the q-conditioned partial auto-regressive function and the p-conditioned partial moving average function. These concepts are similar to the generalized partial autocorrelation function which has been recently suggested for order determination. The main difference is that they are defined and employed in connection with an asymptotically efficient estimation method instead of the rather inefficient generalized Yule-Walker method. The specification is performed by using sequential Wald type tests. In contrast to the traditional testing of hypotheses, these tests use critical values which increase with the sample size at an appropriate rate  相似文献

We describe novel, analytical, data-analysis, and Monte-Carlo-simulation studies of strongly heteroscedastic data of both small and wide range.Many different types of heteroscedasticity and fixed or variable weighting are incorporated through error-variance models.Attention is given to parameter bias determinations, evaluations of their significances, and to new ways to correct for bias.The error-variance models allow for both additive and independent power-law errors, and the power exponent is shown to be able to be well determined for typical physicalsciences data by the rapidly-converging, general-purpose, extended-least-squares program we use.The fitting and error-variance models are applied to both low-and high-heteroscedasticity situations, including single-response data from radioactive decay.Monte-Carlo simulations of data with similar parameters are used to evaluate the analytical models developed and the various minimization methods em-ployed, such as extended and generalized least squares.Logarithmic and inversion transformations are investigated in detail, and it is shown analytically and by simulations that exponential data with constant percentage errors can be logarithmically transformed to allow a simple parameter-bias-removal procedure.A more-general bias-reduction approach combining direct and inversion fitting is also developed.Distributions of fitting-model and error-variance-model parameters are shown to be typically non-normal, thus invalidating the usual estimates of parameter bias and precision.Errors in conventional confidence-interval estimates are quantified by comparison with accurate simulation results.  相似文献
