The large nonparametric model in this note is a statistical model with the family ? of all continuous and strictly increasing distribution functions. In the abundant literature of the subject, there are many proposals for nonparametric estimators that are applicable in the model. Typically the kth order statistic X k:n is taken as a simplest estimator, with k = [nq], or k = [(n + 1)q], or k = [nq] + 1, etc. Often a linear combination of two consecutive order statistics is considered. In more sophisticated constructions, different L-statistics (e.g., Harrel–Davis, Kaigh–Lachenbruch, Bernstein, kernel estimators) are proposed. Asymptotically the estimators do not differ substantially, but if the sample size n is fixed, which is the case of our concern, differences may be serious. A unified treatment of quantile estimators in the large, nonparametric statistical model is developed. 相似文献

We estimate sib–sib correlation by maximizing the log-likelihood of a Kotz-type distribution. Using extensive simulations we conclude that estimating sib–sib correlation using the proposed method has many advantages. Results are illustrated on a real life data set due to Galton. Testing of hypothesis about this correlation is also discussed using the three likelihood based tests and a test based on Srivastava's estimator. We derive the ?1-limit of trimmed sums of order statistics from location-scale distributions satisfying certain assumptions. Based on this limit, an approximation to the asymptotic variance of a Best-Asymptotic-Normal (BAN) estimator for the location parameter is developed. Associated formulae are derived for four location-scale distributions commonly used in lifetime data analysis. The approximation is analyzed via the properties of the approximating function and by comparison to the exact values for a special case. Applications are illustrated by applying the approximation to comparing location parameters and to selecting the population with the largest location parameter, using censored samples from location-scale populations. 相似文献

Motivated by a real-life problem, we develop a Two-Stage Cluster Sampling with Ranked Set Sampling (TSCRSS) design in the second stage for which we derive an unbiased estimator of population mean and its variance. An unbiased estimator of the variance of mean estimator is also derived. It is proved that the TSCRSS is more efficient—in the sense of having smaller variance—than the conventional two-stage cluster simple random sampling in which the second-stage sampling is with replacement. Using a simulation study on a real-life population, we show that the TSCRSS is more efficient than the conventional two-stage cluster sampling when simple random sampling without replacement is used in both stages. 相似文献

We propose several estimators based on calibration techniques with arbitrary sampling design in each of the occasions. Asymptotic variance formulaes are derived for the proposed estimators. In this article, we express the profile log-likelihood function for the three-parameter gamma distribution in terms of the location parameter only and we study its properties. The behavior of the profile function is examined as the location parameter tends to the boundary values, i.e., to ? ∞ and to the minimum value of the sample. As a result, we obtain that if the log-likelihood function has a local maximum then it has another stationary value which is a saddle point.
