We consider a non response-adjusted poststratified estimation when there exists a set of clear response homogeneity groups but the population distribution of that set is unknown, which is common in practice. We propose a partially calibrated poststratified estimator that is asymptotically unbiased and satisfies a calibration equation for the auxiliary variables of which the joint population distribution is known. We also provide a variance estimator of the proposed poststratified estimator. In a small simulation study, the proposed estimator performed better than or comparable to commonly used estimators. 相似文献

This paper suggests an efficient class of ratio and product estimators for estimating the population mean in stratified random sampling using auxiliary information. It is interesting to mention that, in addition to many, Koyuncu and Kadilar (2009), Kadilar and Cingi (2003, 2005), and Singh and Vishwakarma (2007) estimators are identified as members of the proposed class of estimators. The expressions of bias and mean square error (MSE) of the proposed estimators are derived under large sample approximation in general form. Asymptotically optimum estimator (AOE) in the class is identified alongwith its MSE formula. It has been shown that the proposed class of estimators is more efficient than combined regression estimator and Koyuncu and Kadilar (2009) estimator. We draw here on the relation between the Cauchy and hyperbolic secant distributions to prove that the MLE of the scale parameter of the Cauchy distribution is log-normally distributed and to study the properties of a Hodges-Lehmann type estimator for the scale parameter. This scale estimator is slightly biased but performs well even on small samples regardless of the location parameter. The asymptotic efficiency of the estimator is 98%. 相似文献

Based on progressively Type-II censored samples, this article deals with inference for the stress-strength reliability R = P(Y < X) when X and Y are two independent two-parameter bathtub-shape lifetime distributions with different scale parameters, but having the same shape parameter. Different methods for estimating the reliability are applied. The maximum likelihood estimate of R is derived. Also, its asymptotic distribution is used to construct an asymptotic confidence interval for R. Assuming that the shape parameter is known, the maximum likelihood estimator of R is obtained. Based on the exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of R an exact confidence interval of that has been obtained. The uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator are calculated for R. Bayes estimate of R and the associated credible interval are also got under the assumption of independent gamma priors. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the proposed estimators. One data analysis has been performed for illustrative purpose. Finally, we will generalize this distribution to the proportional hazard family with two parameters and derive various estimators in this family. 相似文献

In this work, the problem of testing whether different (?2) independent samples, with (possibly) different heavy-tailed distributions, share the same extreme value index, is addressed. The test statistic proposed is inspired by the empirical likelihood methodology and consists in an ANOVA-like confrontation of Hill estimators. Asymptotic validity of this simple procedure is proved and efficiency, in terms of empirical type I error and power, is investigated through simulations under a variety of situations. Two important wood properties are stiffness (modulus of elasticity or MOE) and bending strength (modulus of rupture or MOR). In the past, MOE has often been modeled as a Gaussian and MOR as a lognormal or a two or three parameter Weibull. It is well known that MOE and MOR are positively correlated. To model the simultaneous behavior of MOE and MOR for the purposes of wood system reliability calculations, we introduce a bivariate Gaussian–Weibull distribution and the associated pseudo-truncated Weibull. We use asymptotically efficient likelihood methods to obtain an estimator of the parameter vector of the bivariate Gaussian–Weibull, and then obtain the asymptotic distribution of this estimator. 相似文献

ABSTRACTIn this paper we propose a new non parametric estimator of the spectral matrix of a multivariate stationary stochastic process, with the main goal to locally improve the deficiencies of the smoothed periodogram in terms of mean square error of the estimates. Our estimator is based on a convex linear combination of the frequency averaged periodogram and an estimate of the true mean spectral matrix across frequencies. In a wide simulation study we show that our estimator turns out to be able to markedly improve the frequency averaged periodogram especially at central frequencies. 相似文献

ABSTRACTZero-inflated probability models are used to model count data that have an excessive number of zeros. Shewhart-type control charts have been proposed for the monitoring of zero-inflated processes. Usually their performance is evaluated under the assumption of known process parameters. However, in practice, their values are rarely known and they have to be estimated from an in-control historical Phase I sample. In the present paper, we investigate the performance of Shewhart-type control charts for zero-inflated processes with estimated parameters and propose practical guidelines for the statistical design of the examined charts, when the size of the preliminary sample is predetermined. 相似文献

ABSTRACTIn this paper, we propose three generalized estimators, namely, generalized unrestricted estimator (GURE), generalized stochastic restricted estimator (GSRE), and generalized preliminary test stochastic restricted estimator (GPTSRE). The GURE can be used to represent the ridge estimator, almost unbiased ridge estimator (AURE), Liu estimator, and almost unbiased Liu estimator. When stochastic restrictions are available in addition to the sample information, the GSRE can be used to represent stochastic mixed ridge estimator, stochastic restricted Liu estimator, stochastic restricted almost unbiased ridge estimator, and stochastic restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator. The GPTSRE can be used to represent the preliminary test estimators based on mixed estimator. Using the GPTSRE, the properties of three other preliminary test estimators, namely preliminary test stochastic mixed ridge estimator, preliminary test stochastic restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator, and preliminary test stochastic restricted almost unbiased ridge estimator can also be discussed. The mean square error matrix criterion is used to obtain the superiority conditions to compare the estimators based on GPTSRE with some biased estimators for the two cases for which the stochastic restrictions are correct, and are not correct. Finally, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation study are done to illustrate the theoretical findings of the proposed estimators. 相似文献
