The behaviour of the dynamic stochastic approximation algorithm suggested by DUPA[Cbreve] [4, 5] is examined under various conditions. Essentially, convergence in q.m. is proved and the rate of convergence is obtained for three classes of regression functions. Necessary and sufficient conditions are established for the convergence in q.m. of the algorithm in terms of the algorithm parameters for the stationary (nondynamic) case.  相似文献

Quasi-optimal procedures of testing many hypotheses are described in this paper. They significantly simplify the Bayesian algorithms of hypothesis testing and computation of the risk function. The relations allowing for obtaining the estimations for the values of average risks in optimum tasks are given. The obtained general solutions are reduced to concrete formulae for a multivariate normal distribution of probabilities. The methods of approximate computation of the risk functions in Bayesian tasks of testing many hypotheses are offered. The properties and interrelations of the developed methods and algorithms are investigated. On the basis of a simulation, the validity of the obtained results and conclusions drawn is presented.  相似文献

Two kinds of sequential designs are proposed for finding the point that maximizes the probability of response assuming a binary response variable and a quadratic logistic regression model. One is a parametric optimal design approach, and the other one is a nonparametric stochastic approximation approach. The suggested sequential designs are evaluated and compared in a simulation study. In summary, the parametric approach performed very well whereas its competitor failed in some cases.  相似文献

Two types of estimates of process level, namely repeated median estimates (Siegel, 1982 Siegel , A. F. ( 1982 ). Robust regression using repeated medians . Online signal extraction by robust linear regression . Computational Statistics 21 : 3351 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) based on repeated median filters, are used to develop control charts. The distributional properties of the estimates are studied using simulation and these are found to closely follow normal distribution. The repeated median being robust against outliers with asymptotically 50% breakdown value and having small standard deviation is found to be useful as a basis for monitoring process averages. The control charts using repeated median estimates have been recommended for general use.  相似文献

Partitioning the variance of a response by design levels is challenging for binomial and other discrete outcomes. Goldstein (2003 Goldstein , H. ( 2003 ). Multilevel Statistical Models. 3rd ed . London : Edward Arnold . [Google Scholar]) proposed four definitions for variance partitioning coefficients (VPC) under a two-level logistic regression model. In this study, we explicitly derived formulae for multi-level logistic regression model and subsequently studied the distributional properties of the calculated VPCs. Using simulations and a vegetation dataset, we demonstrated associations between different VPC definitions, the importance of methods for estimating VPCs (by comparing VPC obtained using Laplace and penalized quasilikehood methods), and bivariate dependence between VPCs calculated at different levels. Such an empirical study lends an immediate support to wider applications of VPC in scientific data analysis.  相似文献

In this paper, we revisit the construction of confidence intervals for extreme quantiles of Pareto-type distributions. A novel asymptotic pivotal quantity is proposed for these quantile estimators, which leads to new asymptotic confidence intervals that exhibit more accurate coverage probability. This pivotal quantity also allows for the construction of a saddle-point approximation, from which a second set of new confidence intervals follows. The small-sample properties and utility of these confidence intervals are studied using simulations and a case study from insurance.  相似文献

A two-step estimation approach is proposed for the fixed-effect parameters, random effects and their variance σ2 of a Poisson mixed model. In the first step, it is proposed to construct a small σ2-based approximate likelihood function of the data and utilize this function to estimate the fixed-effect parameters and σ2. In the second step, the random effects are estimated by minimizing their posterior mean squared error. Methods of Waclawiw and Liang (1993) based on so-called Stein-type estimating functions and of Breslow and Clayton (1993) based on penalized quasilikelihood are compared with the proposed likelihood method. The results of a simulation study on the performance of all three approaches are reported.  相似文献

Bias-corrected confidence bands for general nonparametric regression models are considered. We use local polynomial fitting to construct the confidence bands and combine the cross-validation method and the plug-in method to select the bandwidths. Related asymptotic results are obtained. Our simulations show that confidence bands constructed by local polynomial fitting have much better coverage than those constructed by using the Nadaraya–Watson estimator. The results are also applicable to nonparametric autoregressive time series models.  相似文献

The paper studies stochastic approximation as a technique for bias reduction. The proposed method does not require approximating the bias explicitly, nor does it rely on having independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) data. The method always removes the leading bias term, under very mild conditions, as long as auxiliary samples from distributions with given parameters are available. Expectation and variance of the bias-corrected estimate are given. Examples in sequential clinical trials (non-i.i.d. case), curved exponential models (i.i.d. case) and length-biased sampling (where the estimates are inconsistent) are used to illustrate the applications of the proposed method and its small sample properties.  相似文献
