Knowledge concerning the family of univariate continuous distributions with density function f and distribution function F defined through the relation f(x) = F α(x)(1 ? F(x))β, α, β ? , is reviewed and modestly extended. Symmetry, modality, tail behavior, order statistics, shape properties based on the mode, L-moments, and—for the first time—transformations between members of the family are the general properties considered. Fully tractable special cases include all the complementary beta distributions (including uniform, power law and cosine distributions), the logistic, exponential and Pareto distributions, the Student t distribution on 2 degrees of freedom and, newly, the distribution corresponding to α = β = 5/2. This paper introduces a general goodness-of-fit test based on the estimated Kullback–Leibler information. The test uses the Vasicek entropy estimate. Two special cases of the test for location–scale and shape families are discussed. The results are used to introduce goodness-of-fit tests for the uniform, Laplace, Weibull and beta distributions. This article introduces a method of nonparametric bivariate density estimation based on a bivariate sample level crossing function, which leads to the construction of a bivariate level crossing empirical distribution function (BLCEDF). An efficiency function for this BLCEDF relative to the classical empirical distribution function (EDF), is derived. The BLCEDF gives more efficient estimates than the EDF in the tails of any underlying continuous distribution, for both small and large sample sizes. On the basis of BLCEDF we define a bivariate level crossing kernel density estimator (BLCKDE) and study its properties. We apply the BLCEDF and BLCKDE for various distributions and provide results of simulations that confirm the theoretical properties. A real-world example is given. 相似文献

For the first time, a new five-parameter distribution, called the beta generalized gamma distribution, is introduced and studied. It contains at least 25 special sub-models such as the beta gamma, beta Weibull, beta exponential, generalized gamma (GG), Weibull and gamma distributions and thus could be a better model for analysing positive skewed data. The new density function can be expressed as a linear combination of GG densities. We derive explicit expressions for moments, generating function and other statistical measures. In this paper, WILKS'type-B integral equation is solved in the general form of a series of beta functions and a series of weighted gamma functions as proposed by WALD and BROOKNER 1941. The coefficients in both representations can be obtained by explicit recurrence relartions, therefore the results solve many distributional problems and have the fewest computational difficulties of any representation that has surfaced to date. The radius of convergence of the second series representation is given, whereas the convergence property of the first series representation is given, whereas the convergence property of the first series representation was studied by WALD and Brookner. The exact null distributions of WILKS' statistic A for testing the independence of several groups of variables and of V = -log A are given. This paper considers modelling of a non‐stationary bivariate integer‐valued autoregressive process of order 1 (BINAR(1)) where the cross‐dependence between the counting series is formed through the relationship of the current series with the previous‐lagged count series observations while the pair of innovations is independent and marginally Poisson. In addition, this paper proposes a generalised quasi‐likelihood (GQL) estimating equation based on the exact specification of the mean score and the auto‐covariance structure. The proposed approach is also compared with other popular techniques such as conditional maximum likelihood (CML), generalised least squares (GLS) and generalised method of moment (GMM) based on simulated data from the proposed BINAR(1). Internal migration is one of the major components of rapid and unplanned growth of towns and cities especially in the developing countries. This paper describes the transition pattern of internal out migration in Bangladesh and some sociodemographic factors influencing such migration in the country using a covariate-dependent Markov model. Four types of migration behavior namely, rural to rural, rural to urban, urban to rural and urban to urban are under consideration of this paper. Defining two discrete states, urban and rural, each of such transition can be characterized by a stochastic process; hence we use a two-state Markov chain for this purpose. We find that age, sex, division and reason of migration are significantly associated with internal migration in Bangladesh. The major findings include that any type of migration, rural to rural, rural to urban, urban to rural and urban to urban, mostly take place at the ages of 15–30 as well as at the ages of 0–15; females have higher odds than males to make a migration; Dhaka, Rajshahi and Chittagong divisions have remarkably higher migration rate as compared to Barisal and Sylhet division; and the professional reason is the main reason for rural to urban migration. 相似文献

ABSTRACT. The problem of boundary bias is associated with kernel estimation for regression curves with compact support. This paper proposes a simple and uni(r)ed approach for remedying boundary bias in non-parametric regression, without dividing the compact support into interior and boundary areas and without applying explicitly different smoothing treatments separately. The approach uses the beta family of density functions as kernels. The shapes of the kernels vary according to the position where the curve estimate is made. Theyare symmetric at the middle of the support interval, and become more and more asymmetric nearer the boundary points. The kernels never put any weight outside the data support interval, and thus avoid boundary bias. The method is a generalization of classical Bernstein polynomials, one of the earliest methods of statistical smoothing. The proposed estimator has optimal mean integrated squared error at an order of magnitude n −4/5 , equivalent to that of standard kernel estimators when the curve has an unbounded support. 相似文献

In survey sampling and in stereology, it is often desirable to estimate the ratio of means θ= E(Y)/E(X) from bivariate count data (X, Y) with unknown joint distribution. We review methods that are available for this problem, with particular reference to stereological applications. We also develop new methods based on explicit statistical models for the data, and associated model diagnostics. The methods are tested on a stereological dataset. For point‐count data, binomial regression and bivariate binomial models are generally adequate. Intercept‐count data are often overdispersed relative to Poisson regression models, but adequately fitted by negative binomial regression. 相似文献
