Complexity and dynamism are considered intrinsic features of engineer-to-order (ETO) business environment; it is, therefore, important to understand and manage them better. Based on empirical investigation into two case companies, this paper expands the existing literature on how and why complexity and dynamism context factors constitute not only external business environment issues but also subfactors within the boundary of the firm. It argues that most of the subfactors for complexity and dynamism identified for repetitive manufacturing are relevant for the high uncertainty capital goods manufacturing ETO with some exceptions such as short product life cycle and technological turbulence. A framework of configuration (on implementation of lean practices), and moderation (on the lean-operations performance relation) forms of influence from dynamism and complexity is proposed. Further arguments to be verified in future large-scale research include: (1) dynamism bears challenges, and complexity provides opportunities to foster implementation of relevant lean practices in ETO, (2) both complexity and dynamism positively mediate better operations performance and enriched value from implemented lean practices. 相似文献

The determinants of store choice on the part of the consumer are complex. Our study indicates that consumers find the issues
relevant to store choice as lacking in quality and certainly not congruent nor tangential to the retail marketing concept.
As our model shows, perceptions are developed through stimuli that are created by the retail environment both internal and
external. If these were the only issues retailers had to deal with, their challenge in understanding consumer store choice
behavior would be formidable. Add to those dimensions the perceptions that are formed through the consumer's own psychological,
physiological and behavioral attributes and the complexities of the challenge can seem to be insurmountable. The complexity
of the situation increases exponentially when, as our research seems to indicate, the psychological and behavioral components
can be compounded by such little understood dimensions as ambivalence and vicarious sociality. There is light at the end of
the tunnel. Retailers need to benefit themselves by reaching out the broad resources of research to effectively develop the
resource information necessary to successfully position themselves relative to their consumers expectations.

The U-statistic based modified information criterion (MIC) is proposed and applied to detect the change point in a sequence of independent random variables. In this article, we show that the method is consistent in selecting the correct model, and the resulting test statistic has a simple limiting distribution. We investigate the method based on both symmetric and anti-symmetric kernel functions. The simulation results indicate that the new method has better power in detecting the changes compared to other methods, such as the likelihood based MIC (Chen et al., 2006) and the Bayesian information criterion of Schwarz (BIC, Schwarz, 1978). 相似文献
