Confidence intervals based on L-moments for quantiles of the GP and GEV distributions with application to market-opening asset prices data

In a ground-breaking paper published in 1990 by the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, J.R.M. Hosking defined the L-moment of a random variable as an expectation of certain linear combinations of order statistics. L-moments are an alternative to conventional moments and recently they have been used often in inferential statistics. L-moments have several advantages over the conventional moments, including robustness to the the presence of outliers, which may lead to more accurate estimates in some cases as the characteristics of distributions. In this contribution, asymptotic theory and L-moments are used to derive confidence intervals of the population parameters and quantiles of the three-parametric generalized Pareto and extreme-value distributions. Computer simulations are performed to determine the performance of confidence intervals for the population quantiles based on L-moments and to compare them to those obtained by traditional estimation techniques. The results obtained show that they perform well in comparison to the moments and maximum likelihood methods when the interest is in higher quantiles, or even best. L-moments are especially recommended when the tail of the distribution is rather heavier and the sample size is small. The derived intervals are applied to real economic data, and specifically to market-opening asset prices.

全球化时代好莱坞电影与中国文化的传播

为了实现好莱坞电影恰当运用中国元素以及中国文化借助于好莱坞电影得到广泛的海外传播问题,通过案例进行论证。研究认为,好莱坞电影要肯定文化的差异性与多样性,需要观察者站在理性的立场去尊重、描述差异;中国电影要建立文化自信,重新审视电影的基本理念,借鉴好莱坞电影工业的运作模式,立足本土现实和民族情感,发掘自身独特的文化资源和优势,对制作和传播具有中国文化价值观的国内外电影进行积极正面引导,实现中国形象的良好建构与正面传播。     

Robustness properties of minimally‐supported Bayesian D‐optimal designs for heteroscedastic models

Bayesian D‐optimal designs supported on a fixed number of points were found by Dette & Wong (1998) for estimating parameters in a polynomial model when the error variance depends exponentially on the explanatory variable. The present authors provide optimal designs under a broader class of error variance structures and investigate the robustness properties of these designs to model and prior distribution assumptions. A comparison of the performance of the optimal designs relative to the popular uniform designs is also given. The authors' results suggest that Bayesian D‐optimal designs suported on a fixed number of points are more likely to be globaly optimal among all designs if the prior distribution is symmetric and is concentrated around its mean.     

Simple methods for ecological inference in 2×2 tables

This paper considers inference about the individual level relationship between two dichotomous variables based on aggregated data. It is known that such analyses suffer from 'ecological bias', caused by the lack of homogeneity of this relationship across the groups over which the aggregation occurs. Two new methods for overcoming this bias, one based on local smoothing and the other a simple semiparametric approach, are developed and evaluated. The local smoothing approach performs best when it is used with a covariate which accounts for some of the variation in the relationships across groups. The semiparametric approach performed well in our evaluation even without such auxiliary information     

Inference on 3D Procrustes Means: Tree Bole Growth,Rank Deficient Diffusion Tensors and Perturbation Models

Abstract. The Central Limit Theorem (CLT) for extrinsic and intrinsic means on manifolds is extended to a generalization of Fréchet means. Examples are the Procrustes mean for 3D Kendall shapes as well as a mean introduced by Ziezold. This allows for one‐sample tests previously not possible, and to numerically assess the ‘inconsistency of the Procrustes mean’ for a perturbation model and ‘inconsistency’ within a model recently proposed for diffusion tensor imaging. Also it is shown that the CLT can be extended to mildly rank deficient diffusion tensors. An application to forestry gives the temporal evolution of Douglas fir tree stems tending strongly towards cylinders at early ages and tending away with increased competition.

中国特色社会主义文化:"铸牢中华民族共同体意识"的灵魂

铸牢中华民族共同体意识是一种文化寻“根”的实践活动。文化认同承载的“集体认知”“集体记忆”“集体想象”是铸牢中华民族共同体意识的意义源码,文化创造唤醒的“身份识别”“他者承认”“互动共生”是铸牢中华民族共同体意识的诠释编码,文化自信强化的“主体叙事”“情感共通”“价值确证”是铸牢中华民族共同体意识的建构解码。中国特色社会主义文化在意义拾取、价值诠释、生成建构等向度铸牢中华民族共同体意识,是铸牢中华民族共同体意识的灵魂。从文化哲学视界研究和关注中华民族共同体意识形成与发展,不仅是研究该论题的一个重要思想立足点,也是需要继续深化拓展的一个研究空间。
