Modified profile likelihood estimation for the Weibull regression models in survival analysis

In this study, adjustment of profile likelihood function of parameter of interest in presence of many nuisance parameters is investigated for survival regression models. Our objective is to extend the Barndorff–Nielsen’s technique to Weibull regression models for estimation of shape parameter in presence of many nuisance and regression parameters. We conducted Monte-Carlo simulation studies and a real data analysis, all of which demonstrate and suggest that the modified profile likelihood estimators outperform the profile likelihood estimators in terms of three comparison criterion: mean squared errors, bias and standard errors.     

On approximations via convolution-defined mixture models

An often-cited fact regarding mixing or mixture distributions is that their density functions are able to approximate the density function of any unknown distribution to arbitrary degrees of accuracy, provided that the mixing or mixture distribution is sufficiently complex. This fact is often not made concrete. We investigate and review theorems that provide approximation bounds for mixing distributions. Connections between the approximation bounds of mixing distributions and estimation bounds for the maximum likelihood estimator of finite mixtures of location-scale distributions are reviewed.     

A volume based approach to establish B-spline based expressions for density functions and its application to progressive hybrid censoring

We propose an approach to determine the distribution of particular linear combinations of hybrid censored order statistics which is based on the calculation of volumes of polytopes. For this purpose, we establish efficient and compact volume formulas in terms of B-splines. Further, we illustrate our approach for ten different progressive hybrid censoring schemes under an exponential assumption.     

Sexual Orientation as a Peripheral Cue in Advertising: Effects of Models’ Sexual Orientation,Argument Strength,and Involvement on Responses to Magazine Ads

This study examines how sexual orientation of couples featured in magazine advertisements affects heterosexual viewers’ responses using the elaboration likelihood model as a framework. A 3 × 2 × 2 × 3 experiment tested effects of sexual orientation, argument strength, involvement, and attitudes toward homosexuality on heterosexuals’ attitudes toward the couple, advertisement, brand, and product, purchase intentions, and recall. Results indicate that consumers were accepting of ads with lesbian portrayals. Participants showed more negative attitudes toward gay male portrayals, but attitudes toward heterosexual and lesbian ads were similar. This effect was moderated by participants’ attitudes toward homosexuals. Low-involvement consumers showed more negative attitudes toward homosexual portrayals than toward heterosexual portrayals, indicating that sexual orientation may have served as a peripheral cue negatively impacting attitudes toward the couple and ad under low elaboration. These effects were not observed for attitudes toward the brand and product, purchase intentions, or recall.

成人继续教育中的商务英语写作教学

从2004年初笔者进行的一次问卷调查入手,分析了当前成人继续教育中商务英语写作课堂教学过程中存在的问题。针对调查中反映的问题,提出了一套由案例分析法演化而来的教学模式——基于案例的教学方式(Case-based Method),并结合图表对在不同阶段商务英语写作课程的教学过程中如何应用此教学模式作了概述。     

ECM-IS视角下移动政务APP用户持续使用意愿影响因素研究

随着“互联网+”时代的到来,移动政务APP快速发展,但也存在功能单一、满意度不高、用户持续使用意愿较低的问题,要促使其健康发展,必须重视用户的使用体验和使用意愿。本研究以ECM-IS模型理论为基础,构建了移动政务APP用户持续使用意愿影响因素模型,据此设计调查问卷并进行实证研究。研究结果显示,移动政务APP的系统质量是满足用户期望的重要因素,而用户感知对于提升用户的满意度以及促使持续使用具有重要的意义,其中,感知便利性和感知有用性的积极作用尤为明显。最后,从促使用户持续使用的角度,提出了完善移动政务APP系统功能、突出实用优势,兼顾趣味功能,以及重视用户感知、强调人文关怀等对策和建议。     

电磁导弹的波瓣特性

首次在球坐标系统下研究了电磁导弹有趣的波瓣特性。研究表明:当天线口径、距离一定时,电磁导弹的波瓣随波形参量减小而变窄;当天线口径、波形参量一定时,电磁导弹的波瓣随距离增加而变窄;当波形参量、距离一定时,电磁导弹的波瓣随天线口径增加而变宽;电磁导弹不存在副瓣;电磁导弹的能量在远轴时仍按球面波方式衰减。这些结论有助于理解电磁导弹的实质。     

对我国刑法立法中承认连续犯的质疑

刑法理论通说基于我国刑法第89条追诉时效的规定,认为我国刑法中承认连续犯的观点,是对连续犯的一种曲解。对我国刑法中是否承认连续犯的考察,须从连续犯的理论入手,并考察实体法和程序法的相关规定,而我国现行刑事立法中目前还不具备连续犯的立法土壤。因我国刑法对同种数罪不实行并罚,连续犯与同种数罪的区分并无司法实践上的意义。
