Some degree of error is inevitable in multi‐agent bioassays regardless of design or measurement technology. Estimation error can be reduced post facto by exploiting the matrix partial ordering of the bioassay survival estimates. The standard method for this is order‐restricted regression (ORR). If the joint action of the bioassay agents admits a tolerance‐based interpretation, additional structure beyond matrix partial ordering is available, leading to a new method of error reduction. This tolerance‐based error reduction (TBER) procedure almost always outperforms ORR. Like ORR, TBER applies to complete factorial bioassay designs and, using weighting, to incomplete designs.  相似文献

Unreplicated factorial designs pose a difficult problem in analysis because there are no degrees of freedom left to estimate the error. Daniel [Technometrics 1 (1959), pp. 311-341] proposed an ingenious graphical method that does not require σ to be estimated. Here we try to put Daniel's method into a formal framework and lift the subjectiveness that carries. A simulation study has been conducted that shows that the proposed method behaves better than Lenth's [Technometrics 31 (1989), pp. 469-473] popular method.  相似文献

The problem considered is that of finding an optimum measurement schedule to estimate population parameters in a nonlinear model when the patient effects are random. The paper presents examples of the use of sensitivity functions, derived from the General Equivalence Theorem for D-optimality, in the construction of optimum population designs for such schedules. With independent observations, the theorem applies to the potential inclusion of a single observation. However, in population designs the observations are correlated and the theorem applies to the inclusion of an additional measurement schedule. In one example, three groups of patients of differing size are subject to distinct schedules. Numerical, as opposed to analytical, calculation of the sensitivity function is advocated. The required covariances of the observations are found by simulation.  相似文献

Sampling plans that excluded the selection of contiguous units within a given sample, while maintaining a constant second-order inclusion probability for non-contiguous units, were investigated for finite populations of N units arranged in a circular, one-dimensional ordering. There remain many open questions about the existence of such plans and their extension to plans excluding adjacent units. We present new generation techniques and new balanced sampling plans for the exclusion of adjacent units under finite, one-dimensional, circularly and linearly ordered populations.  相似文献

In recent years, there has been an increased interest in combining probability and nonprobability samples. Nonprobability sample are cheaper and quicker to conduct but the resulting estimators are vulnerable to bias as the participation probabilities are unknown. To adjust for the potential bias, estimation procedures based on parametric or nonparametric models have been discussed in the literature. However, the validity of the resulting estimators relies heavily on the validity of the underlying models. Also, nonparametric approaches may suffer from the curse of dimensionality and poor efficiency. We propose a data integration approach by combining multiple outcome regression models and propensity score models. The proposed approach can be used for estimating general parameters including totals, means, distribution functions, and percentiles. The resulting estimators are multiply robust in the sense that they remain consistent if all but one model are misspecified. The asymptotic properties of point and variance estimators are established. The results from a simulation study show the benefits of the proposed method in terms of bias and efficiency. Finally, we apply the proposed method using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and data from the National Health Insurance Sharing Services.  相似文献

This paper explores avenues for navigating evaluation design challenges posed by complex social programs (CSPs) and their environments when conducting studies that call for generalizable, causal inferences on the intervention’s effectiveness. A definition is provided of a CSP drawing on examples from different fields, and an evaluation case is analyzed in depth to derive seven (7) major sources of complexity that typify CSPs, threatening assumptions of textbook-recommended experimental designs for performing impact evaluations. Theoretically-supported, alternative methodological strategies are discussed to navigate assumptions and counter the design challenges posed by the complex configurations and ecology of CSPs. Specific recommendations include: sequential refinement of the evaluation design through systems thinking, systems-informed logic modeling; and use of extended term, mixed methods (ETMM) approaches with exploratory and confirmatory phases of the evaluation. In the proposed approach, logic models are refined through direct induction and interactions with stakeholders. To better guide assumption evaluation, question-framing, and selection of appropriate methodological strategies, a multiphase evaluation design is recommended.  相似文献
