Janardan (1973) introduced the generalized Polya Eggenberger family of distributions (GPED) as a limiting distribution of the generalized Markov-Polya distribution (GMPD). Janardan and Rao (1982) gave a number of characterizing properties of the generalized Markov-Polya and generalized Polya Eggenberger distributions. Here, the GPED family characterized by four parameters, is formally defined and studied. The probability generating function, its moments, and certain recurrence relations with the moments are provided. The Lagrangian Katz family of distributions (Consul and Famoye (1996)) is shown to be a sub-class of the family of GPED (or GPED 1 ) as it is called in this paper). A generalized Polya Eggenberger distribution of the second kind (GPED 2 ) is also introduced and some of it's properties are given. Recurrence relations for the probabilities of GPED 1 and GPED 2 are given. A number of other structural and characteristic properties of the GPED 1 are provided, from which the properties of Lagrangian Katz family follow. The parameters of GMPD 1 are estimated by the method of moments and the maximum likelihood method. An application is provided.  相似文献

We derive a speculative trading model with endogenous informed trading that yields a conditionally heteroscedastic time series for trading volume and the squared price changes. We use half-hourly price-change and volume data for IBM during 1988 to test the model and estimate the structural parameters using the simulated method-of-moments estimation procedure. Although the model seems to do a reasonable job fitting the unconditional moments of the volume and the squared price change processes, it fares less well in fitting the relation between current trading volume and lags of trading volume and squared volume's (and its lag's) relation to squared price changes.  相似文献

We consider statistical inference on parameters of a distribution when only pooled data are observed. A moment-based estimating equation approach is proposed to deal with situations where likelihood functions based on pooled data are difficult to work with. We outline the method to obtain estimates and test statistics of the parameters of interest in the general setting. We demonstrate the approach on the family of distributions generated by the Box-Cox transformation model, and, in the process, construct tests for goodness of fit based on the pooled data.  相似文献

This paper presents an effective and efficient method for solving a special class of mixed integer fractional programming (FP) problems. We take a classical reformulation approach for continuous FP as a starting point and extend it for solving a more general class of mixed integer (0–1) fractional programming problems.To stress the practical relevance of the research we focus on a real-life application in paper production industry. The constantly advancing physical knowledge of large scale pulp and paper production did have a substantial impact on an existing DSS in which mixed integer (0–1) fractional programming is introduced. We show that the motivation to solve a real-life fractional programming problem can provide the basis for a new approach in a new context that has an added value of its own, even outside the given application area. We describe the main characteristics of the DSS, the necessity to develop a non-iterative solution procedure and demonstrate both the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach from practical data sets.  相似文献

Nonresponse is a very common phenomenon in survey sampling. Nonignorable nonresponse – that is, a response mechanism that depends on the values of the variable having nonresponse – is the most difficult type of nonresponse to handle. This article develops a robust estimation approach to estimating equations (EEs) by incorporating the modelling of nonignorably missing data, the generalized method of moments (GMM) method and the imputation of EEs via the observed data rather than the imputed missing values when some responses are subject to nonignorably missingness. Based on a particular semiparametric logistic model for nonignorable missing response, this paper proposes the modified EEs to calculate the conditional expectation under nonignorably missing data. We can apply the GMM to infer the parameters. The advantage of our method is that it replaces the non-parametric kernel-smoothing with a parametric sampling importance resampling (SIR) procedure to avoid nonparametric kernel-smoothing problems with high dimensional covariates. The proposed method is shown to be more robust than some current approaches by the simulations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We introduce a new methodology for estimating the parameters of a two-sided jump model, which aims at decomposing the daily stock return evolution into (unobservable) positive and negative jumps as well as Brownian noise. The parameters of interest are the jump beta coefficients which measure the influence of the market jumps on the stock returns, and are latent components. For this purpose, at first we use the Variance Gamma (VG) distribution which is frequently used in modeling financial time series and leads to the revelation of the hidden market jumps' distributions. Then, our method is based on the central moments of the stock returns for estimating the parameters of the model. It is proved that the proposed method provides always a solution in terms of the jump beta coefficients. We thus achieve a semi-parametric fit to the empirical data. The methodology itself serves as a criterion to test the fit of any sets of parameters to the empirical returns. The analysis is applied to NASDAQ and Google returns during the 2006–2008 period.  相似文献

This article discusses the role played by stylized features of financial time series in constructing better estimators for the model parameters. We study in detail one such estimator for the transition probabilities of a simple regime switching model. The estimator is based on the squared autocovariances of the time series, which has been discussed in several empirical studies of economic and financial time series. The effectiveness of this estimator in improving the estimation accuracy is investigated, using both finite sample and asymptotic computations. We also report simulation results to confirm our findings and to extend our conclusions over a bigger region of the parameter space.  相似文献

In the past few years, the Lindley distribution has gained popularity for modeling lifetime data as an alternative to the exponential distribution. This paper provides two new characterizations of the Lindley distribution. The first characterization is based on a relation between left truncated moments and failure rate function.
