A simple method of setting linear hypotheses testable by F-tests in a general linear model when the covariance matrix has a general form and is completely unknown, is provided. With some additional conditions imposed on the covariance matrix, there exist the UMP invariant tests of certain linear hypotheses. We derive them to compare the powers with those of F-tests obtained under no restrictions on the covariance matrix. The results are illustrated in a multiple regression model with some examples.  相似文献

This paper considers an improvement of the customary estimator of a finite population mean under a single stage sampling design when paired data, are available on each unit of the sample. Guided by the well known problem of “corninon mean”, a mixture i.e. a weighted combination of the mean of the principal characteristic and that of the auxiliary (possibly transformed) characteristic is proposed. It is shown that, under some conditions, improveinent (with respect to MSE) over the traditional estimator is possible for a broad range of the values of the mixing constant. An estimator of the MSE of the proposed estimator is also provided.  相似文献

In this paper we propose two empirical Bayes shrinkage estimators for the reliability of the exponential distribution and study their properties. Under the uniform prior distribution and the inverted gamma prior distribution these estimators are developed and compared with a preliminary test estimator and with a shrinkage testimator in terms of mean squared error. The proposed empirical Bayes shrinkage estimator under the inverted gamma prior distribution is shown to be preferable to the preliminary test estimator and the shrinkage testimator when the prior value of mean life is clsoe to the true mean life.  相似文献

The article concerns covariance estimates in a replicated measurement error model with correlated, heteroscedastic errors. Freedman has conjectured that using more of the data will improve estimates of covariance matrices and result in a more efficient estimate of the coefficient of the regression model. The paper confirms the conjecture asymptotically for the case that all random variables are normally distributed, but the gain is not substantial.  相似文献

In a previous paper. B. R. Rao and Talwalker (1993) considered absolutely continuous life distributions and extended the Lack of Memory Property (L.M.P.) of the exponential distribution and showed that several classes of life distributions have this property, which was called the 'setting the clock back to zero' property. ¶Its analog is discussed in the present paper for hivariate and multivariate classes of life distributions. As a simple application of this analog, it is proved that the Life expectancy and the Percentile Residual Life vectors of a population of individuals under the influence of multiple competing risks have simple expressions if the class of their joint life distributions has the setting the clock back to zero property,  相似文献

The authors consider the correlation between two arbitrary functions of the data and a parameter when the parameter is regarded as a random variable with given prior distribution. They show how to compute such a correlation and use closed form expressions to assess the dependence between parameters and various classical or robust estimators thereof, as well as between p‐values and posterior probabilities of the null hypothesis in the one‐sided testing problem. A probability distribution function F is said to be symmetric when 1 ‐ F(x) ‐ F(‐x) = 0 for all x∈ R. Given a sequence of alternatives contiguous to a certain symmetric F0, the authors are concerned with testing for the null hypothesis of symmetry. The proposed tests are consistent against any nonsymmetric alternative, and their power with respect to the given sequence can easily be optimized. The tests are constructed by means of transformed empirical processes with an adequate selection of the underlying isometry, and the optimum power is obtained by suitably choosing the score functions. The test statistics are very easy to compute and their asymptotic distributions are simple.  相似文献

Some degree of error is inevitable in multi‐agent bioassays regardless of design or measurement technology. Estimation error can be reduced post facto by exploiting the matrix partial ordering of the bioassay survival estimates. The standard method for this is order‐restricted regression (ORR). If the joint action of the bioassay agents admits a tolerance‐based interpretation, additional structure beyond matrix partial ordering is available, leading to a new method of error reduction. This tolerance‐based error reduction (TBER) procedure almost always outperforms ORR. Like ORR, TBER applies to complete factorial bioassay designs and, using weighting, to incomplete designs.  相似文献
