In this paper, we propose to include Weibull tail-distributions in a more general family of distributions. In particular, the considered model also encompasses the whole Fréchet maximum domain of attraction as well as log-Weibull tail-distributions. The asymptotic normality of some tail estimators based on the log-spacings between the largest order statistics is established in a unified way within the considered family. This result permits to understand the similarity between most estimators of the Weibull tail-coefficient and the Hill estimator. Some different asymptotic properties, in terms of bias, rate of convergence, are also highlighted.  相似文献

The local Whittle (or Gaussian semiparametric) estimator of long range dependence, proposed by Künsch (1987) and analyzed by Robinson (1995a), has a relatively slow rate of convergence and a finite sample bias that can be large. In this paper, we generalize the local Whittle estimator to circumvent these problems. Instead of approximating the short‐run component of the spectrum, ϕ(λ) , by a constant in a shrinking neighborhood of frequency zero, we approximate its logarithm by a polynomial. This leads to a “local polynomial Whittle” (LPW) estimator. We specify a data‐dependent adaptive procedure that adjusts the degree of the polynomial to the smoothness of ϕ(λ) at zero and selects the bandwidth. The resulting “adaptive LPW” estimator is shown to achieve the optimal rate of convergence, which depends on the smoothness of ϕ(λ) at zero, up to a logarithmic factor.  相似文献

Based on a chi square transform of the multivariate normal data set, we proposed a technique for testing multinormality which is the sum of interpoint squared distances between an ordered set of the transformed observations and the set of the population pth quantiles of the chi squared distribution. The critical values of the test were evaluated for different sample sizes and random vector dimensions through extensive simulations. The empirical type-I-error rates and powers of the proposed test were compared with those of some other well known tests for MVN with the proposed test showing excellent results at large sample sizes.  相似文献

This paper proposes a quick switching sampling system for the inspection of attributes quality characteristics for resubmitted lots. The optimal parameters for both fraction non conforming items and fraction non conformities of the proposed sampling system are determined using an optimization procedure so that producer’s risk and consumer’s risk are simultaneously satisfied. Tables are also constructed for the selection of parameters for specified AQL and LQL. The advantage of the proposed plan over the existing plan is discussed and illustrate. An economic design of the proposed sampling system is also discussed and shown that the proposed sampling system has minimum total cost and average total inspection compared to other existing sampling plans.  相似文献

This paper proposes the second-order least squares estimation, which is an extension of the ordinary least squares method, for censored regression models where the error term has a general parametric distribution (not necessarily normal). The strong consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator are derived under fairly general regularity conditions. We also propose a computationally simpler estimator which is consistent and asymptotically normal under the same regularity conditions. Finite sample behavior of the proposed estimators under both correctly and misspecified models are investigated through Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed estimator using optimal weighting matrix performs very similar to the maximum likelihood estimator, and the estimator with the identity weight is more robust against the misspecification.  相似文献

Covariate adjusted regression (CAR) is a recently proposed adjustment method for regression analysis where both the response and predictors are not directly observed [?entürk, D., Müller, H.G., 2005. Covariate adjusted regression. Biometrika 92, 75–89]. The available data have been distorted by unknown functions of an observable confounding covariate. CAR provides consistent estimators for the coefficients of the regression between the variables of interest, adjusted for the confounder. We develop a broader class of partial covariate adjusted regression (PCAR) models to accommodate both distorted and undistorted (adjusted/unadjusted) predictors. The PCAR model allows for unadjusted predictors, such as age, gender and demographic variables, which are common in the analysis of biomedical and epidemiological data. The available estimation and inference procedures for CAR are shown to be invalid for the proposed PCAR model. We propose new estimators and develop new inference tools for the more general PCAR setting. In particular, we establish the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators and propose consistent estimators of their asymptotic variances. Finite sample properties of the proposed estimators are investigated using simulation studies and the method is also illustrated with a Pima Indians diabetes data set.  相似文献

In statistical learning, regression and classification concern different types of the output variables, and the predictive accuracy is quantified by different loss functions. This article explores new aspects of Bregman divergence (BD), a notion which unifies nearly all of the commonly used loss functions in regression and classification. The authors investigate the duality between BD and its generating function. They further establish, under the framework of BD, asymptotic consistency and normality of parametric and nonparametric regression estimators, derive the lower bound of their asymptotic covariance matrices, and demonstrate the role that parametric and nonparametric regression estimation play in the performance of classification procedures and related machine learning techniques. These theoretical results and new numerical evidence show that the choice of loss function affects estimation procedures, whereas has an asymptotically relatively negligible impact on classification performance. Applications of BD to statistical model building and selection with non‐Gaussian responses are also illustrated. In this article, two new consistent estimators are introduced of Shannon's entropy that compares root of mean-square error with other estimators. Then we define new tests for normality based on these new estimators. Traditional resampling methods for estimating sampling distributions sometimes fail, and alternative approaches are then needed. For example, if the classical central limit theorem does not hold and the naïve bootstrap fails, the m/n bootstrap, based on smaller-sized resamples, may be used as an alternative. An alternative to the naïve bootstrap, the sufficient bootstrap, which uses only the distinct observations in a bootstrap sample, is another recently proposed bootstrap approach that has been suggested to reduce the computational burden associated with bootstrapping. It works as long as naïve bootstrap does. However, if the naïve bootstrap fails, so will the sufficient bootstrap. In this paper, we propose combining the sufficient bootstrap with the m/n bootstrap in order to both regain consistent estimation of sampling distributions and to reduce the computational burden of the bootstrap. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic normality of the proposed method, and propose new values for the resample size m. We compare the proposed method with the naïve bootstrap, the sufficient bootstrap, and the m/n bootstrap by simulation.  相似文献
