Consider k( k ≥ 1) independent Weibull populations and a control population which is also Weibull. The problem of identifying which of these k populations are better than the control using shape parameter as a criterion is considered. We allow the possibility of making at most m(0 ≤ m < k) incorrect identifications of better populations. This allowance results in significant savings in sample size. Procedures based on simple linear unbiased estimators of the reciprocal of the shape parameters of these populations are proposed. These procedures can be used for both complete and Type II-censored samples. A related problem of confidence intervals for the ratio of ordered shape parameters is also considered. Monte Carlo simulations as well as both chi-square and normal approximations to the solutions are obtained. 相似文献

The maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters of a two-parameter lognormal distribution with left truncation and right censoring are developed through the Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm. For comparative purpose, the MLEs are also obtained by the Newton–Raphson method. The asymptotic variance-covariance matrix of the MLEs is obtained by using the missing information principle, under the EM framework. Then, using asymptotic normality of the MLEs, asymptotic confidence intervals for the parameters are constructed. Asymptotic confidence intervals are also obtained using the estimated variance of the MLEs by the observed information matrix, and by using parametric bootstrap technique. Different confidence intervals are then compared in terms of coverage probabilities, through a Monte Carlo simulation study. A prediction problem concerning the future lifetime of a right censored unit is also considered. A numerical example is given to illustrate all the inferential methods developed here. 相似文献

Previous simulations have reported second order missing data estimators to be superior to the more straightforward first order procedures such as mean value replacement. These simulations however were based on deterministic comparisonsbetween regression criteria even though simulated sampling is a random procedure. In this paper a simulation structured asan experimental design allows statistical testing of the various missing data estimators for the various regression criteria as well as different regression specifications. Our results indicate that although no missing data estimator is globally best many of the computationally simpler first order methods perform as well as the more expensive higher order estimators, contrary to some previous findings. 相似文献

In this paper, we compare five asymptotically, under a correctly specified likelihood, equivalent estimators of the standard errors for parameters in structural equation models. The estimators are evaluated under different conditions regarding (i) sample size, varying between N=50 and 3200, (ii) distributional assumption of the latent variables and the disturbance terms, namely normal, and heavy tailed (t), and (iii) the complexity of the model. For the assessment of the five estimators we use overall performance, relative bias, MSE and coverage of confidence intervals. The analysis reveals substantial differences in the performance of the five asymptotically equal estimators. Most diversity was found for t distributed, i.e. heavy tailed, data. 相似文献

We discuss the optimal allocation problem in a multi-level stress test with Type-II censoring and Weibull (extreme value) regression model. We derive the maximum-likelihood estimators and their asymptotic variance–covariance matrix through the Fisher information. Four optimality criteria are used to discuss the optimal allocation problem. Optimal allocation of units, both exactly for small sample sizes and asymptotically for large sample sizes, for two- and four-stress-level situations are determined numerically. A fast routine for converting regression algorithms into corresponding orthogonal regression (OR) algorithms was introduced in Ammann and Van Ness (1988). The present paper discusses the properties of various ordinary and robust OR procedures created using this routine. OR minimizes the sum of the orthogonal distances from the regression plane to the data points. OR has three types of applications. First, L 2 OR is the maximum likelihood solution of the Gaussian errors-in-variables (EV) regression problem. This L 2 solution is unstable, thus the robust OR algorithms created from robust regression algorithms should prove very useful. Secondly, OR is intimately related to principal components analysis. Therefore, the routine can also be used to create L 1, robust, etc. principal components algorithms. Thirdly, OR treats the x and y variables symmetrically which is important in many modeling problems. Using Monte Carlo studies this paper compares the performance of standard regression, robust regression, OR, and robust OR on Gaussian EV data, contaminated Gaussian EV data, heavy-tailed EV data, and contaminated heavy-tailed EV data. 相似文献

Estimation and tests for serial correlation in recation and regression models with normal error have been derive from various points of view; for example: Anderson (1948), Durbi for Watson (1950, 1951, 1971), Theil (1965), Durbin (1970), Haq (1970), Kadiyala (1970), Abrahamse & Louter (1971), Levenbac (1972), Berenblut & Webb (1973), Phillips & Harvey (1974), a Sims (1975). In this paper we derive likelihood functions and most powerful tests for serial correclation in Locationa and regression models with arbitrary but specificed error; the methods extend to include the determination of the likelihood for the parameter of the error distribution. In Section 2, we survey the modthods that have been used in deriving the various tests and estimates in the literature. In Section 2, we introduce the stataistical model that directly describes the error distribution and we obtain the likelihood function for error correlation and determine locally and specifically kost powerful tests for correlation. In Section 3 we consider the case with normal error derive a normal distribution on the sphere by radial projection. The likelihood function and test are then specialized to the case of normal error in Section 4. The computational procedures for the tests and related power functions are examined in Section 5. Power comparisons for the textile data of Theil and Nagar (1961), the consumption data of Kelin (1950), and the plums and the wheat data of Hildreth & Lu (1960) are presented in Section 6, while the likelihood functions for correlation in these data are given in Section 7. 相似文献

The paper contains a brief and informal history of space science topics which led to statistical consulting. The past and current roles of the statistician in space science is discussed and this special issue is prefaced by describing generally the contents of the issue. Several statistical problems associated with the space scientists’ efforts to develop instrumentation and space vehicles for both manned and unmanned space missions are discussed as well as those problems associated with developing a space laboratory. The current tasks of developing remote sensors to make earth observations for monitoring earth resources and the associated statistical problems are also discussed.
