For the two-sample location and scale problem we propose an adaptive test which is based on so called Lepage type tests. The well known test of Lepage (1971) is a combination of the Wilcoxon test for location alternatives and the Ansari-Bradley test for scale alternatives and it behaves well for symmetric and medium-tailed distributions. For the cae of short-, medium- and long-tailed distributions we replace the Wilcoxon test and the .Ansari-Bradley test by suitable other two-sample tests for location and scale, respectively, in oder to get higher power than the classical Lepage test for such distribotions. These tests here are called Lepage type tests. in practice, however, we generally have no clear idea about the distribution having generated our data. Thus, an adaptive test should be applied which takes the the given data set inio consideration. The proposed adaptive test is based on the concept of Hogg (1974), i.e., first, to classify the unknown symmetric distribution function with respect to a measure for tailweight and second, to apply an appropriate Lepage type test for this classified type of distribution. We compare the adaptive test with the three Lepage type tests in the adaptive scheme and with the classical Lepage test as well as with other parametric and nonparametric tests. The power comparison is carried out via Monte Carlo simulation. It is shown that the adaptive test is the best one for the broad class of distributions considered.  相似文献

In this article, we present a test for testing uniformity. Based on the test, we provide a test for testing exponentiality. Empirical critical values for both the tests are computed. Both the tests are compared with the tests proposed by Noughabi and Arghami [H. Alizadeh Noughabi, and N.R. Arghami, Testing exponentiality using transformed data, J. Statist. Comput. Simul. 81 (4) (2011), pp. 511–516] using simulation experiments for a wide class of alternatives. The tests possess attractive power properties.  相似文献

There have been a number of procedures used to analyze non-monotonic binary data to predict the probability of response. Some classical procedures are the Up and Down strategy, the Robbins–Monro procedure, and other sequential optimization designs. Recently, nonparametric procedures such as kernel regression and local linear regression (llogr) have been applied to this type of data. It is a well known fact that kernel regression has problems fitting the data near the boundaries and a drawback with local linear regression is that it may be “too linear” when fitting data from a curvilinear function. The procedure introduced in this paper is called local logistic regression, which fits a logistic regression function at each of the data points. An example is given using United States Army projectile data that supports the use of local logistic regression when analyzing non-monotonic binary data for certain response curves. Properties of local logistic regression will be presented along with simulation results that indicate some of the strengths of the procedure.  相似文献

In adaptive estimation, it is often considered that an estimator has made a mistake if the component estimator chosen for use is not the most efficient for the distribution sampled. Theoretical and simulation results point to a fallacy in this line of thought. The Monte Carlo study involves extension of the Princeton Swindle to distributions conditional on a location and scale-free statistic, and to the uniform. The results give a partial explanation for the sometimes surprising robustness of adaptive L-estimators.  相似文献

A hierarchical Bayesian approach to ranking and selection as well as estimation of related means in two—way models is considered. Using the method of Monte Carlo simulation with importance sampling, we are able to carry out efficiently the three or four dimensional integrations as needed. For any continuous baseline G distribution [G.M. Cordeiro and M. de Castro, A new family of generalized distributions, J. Statist. Comput. Simul. 81 (2011), pp. 883–898], proposed a new generalized distribution (denoted here with the prefix ‘Kw-G’ (Kumaraswamy-G)) with two extra positive parameters. They studied some of its mathematical properties and presented special sub-models. We derive a simple representation for the Kw-G density function as a linear combination of exponentiated-G distributions. Some new distributions are proposed as sub-models of this family, for example, the Kw-Chen [Z.A. Chen, A new two-parameter lifetime distribution with bathtub shape or increasing failure rate function, Statist. Probab. Lett. 49 (2000), pp. 155–161], Kw-XTG [M. Xie, Y. Tang, and T.N. Goh, A modified Weibull extension with bathtub failure rate function, Reliab. Eng. System Safety 76 (2002), pp. 279–285] and Kw-Flexible Weibull [M. Bebbington, C.D. Lai, and R. Zitikis, A flexible Weibull extension, Reliab. Eng. System Safety 92 (2007), pp. 719–726]. New properties of the Kw-G distribution are derived which include asymptotes, shapes, moments, moment generating function, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, reliability, Rényi entropy and Shannon entropy. New properties of the order statistics are investigated. We discuss the estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood. A simulation study was carried out to compare the performances of two different simple estimators of the location parameter for a three-parameter Weibull distribution Both Estimators have been suggested by recent paper in the literature. We investigate the asymptotic behaviour of binned kernel density estimators for dependent and locally non-stationary random fields converging to stationary random fields. We focus on the study of the bias and the asymptotic normality of the estimators. A simulation experiment conducted shows that both the kernel density estimator and the binned kernel density estimator have the same behavior and both estimate accurately the true density when the number of fields increases. We apply our results to the 2002 incidence rates of tuberculosis in the departments of France.  相似文献

The problem of estimating ordered quantiles of two exponential populations is considered, assuming equality of location parameters (minimum guarantee times), using the quadratic loss function. Under order restrictions, we propose new estimators which are the isotonized version of the MLEs, call it, restricted MLE. A sufficient condition for improving equivariant estimators is derived under order restrictions on the quantiles. Consequently, estimators improving upon the old estimators have been derived. A detailed numerical study has been done to evaluate the performance of proposed estimators using the Monte-Carlo simulation method and recommendations have been made for the use of the estimators.  相似文献
