Abstract

Homelessness, Aboriginal ethnicity, and nutritional vulnerability are key determinants of health. Substance abuse further compounds health risk. This study explored the nutritional vulnerability of homeless men, some of who were solvent-users, to assess nutrition-related chronic disease risk factors. Anthropometric data were used to calculate disease risk using body mass index. Diet was assessed using a 24-hr food recall and data were compared to Canada’s Food Guide recommendations. A significant proportion of participants had low intakes of vegetables and fruit and milk and alternatives. More than half of the participants met the intake recommendations for grain servings and meat and alternatives. Solvent-using participants consumed significantly higher intakes of vegetables and fruit, grain products, and other foods and beverages, than non-solvent using men. More than half of the participants were classified as overweight or obese. Healthy food consumption was influenced by lack of stable housing, reliance on charitable food, and substance abuse.  相似文献

目的:了解理工科大学生膳食营养素的摄取情况。方法:随机整群抽取南京理工大学学生778名,采用连续3日称重法与记录法相结合的方法进行膳食调查,了解其食物与营养素的摄入情况。结果:女生除维生素E、磷外,能量、其他营养素的摄入量均低于相应的DRIs(中国居民膳食营养素参考摄入量),而男生除维生素A、维生素B2、维生素C、钙、锌外,能量及其他营养素摄入量均达到或超过了相应的DRIs。女生粮谷类、禽肉类、奶类摄取较低,男生水产类摄入量较低,男女生水果蔬菜的摄入量较低。男生中餐能量偏低,而晚餐能量偏高。结论:理工科大学生食物营养素的摄取尚不合理,需要进行改善。  相似文献

Digital learning material was developed to help students acquire the necessary skills for the preparation and implementation of a data analysis protocol. The learning material focused on the relation between the main experimental and observational study types in human nutrition research and the appropriate methods of data analysis. This article describes the main guidelines derived from theories on learning and instruction and illustrates how they were used to develop the digital learning material. Evaluation of the learning material in an academic context indicated that students appreciated the learning material and achieved the learning objectives.  相似文献

培养和训练学前教育(营养与保健)专业学生特色能力。方法 在对学前教育(营养与保健)专业应用型本科学生职业核心能力进行定位的基础上,以我院学生为研究对象,分析学生职业核心能力现状及存在的原因,并提出有针对性策略。结果 学前教育专业应用型本科学生的一般教育能力优势突出,综合教育能力表现较好,但是专业特色能力却亟待提高。突出表现在食育教育能力和食疗保健能力两个主要方面。创新点 以特色能力培养为核心,分主题进行模块化训练。通过课堂教学、技能训练、下园见习与实习、毕业设计等途径,切实提高本专业学生的特色能力。  相似文献

Objective: To determine what factors influenced dietary fat intake (DFI) among black emerging adults. Participants: Sample included 251 black emerging adults, ages 18–25 years, living in the US. Methods: This was a nonexperimental cross-sectional study based on self-report data. Results: The sample had high DFI. Factors related to DFI were gender (rpb = ?.22, p < .001), perceived barriers for healthy eating (r = .32, p < .001), and perceived self-efficacy (r = ?.33, p < .001). These variables were also significant predictors for DFI. Gender was significantly related to DFI (b = ?5.894, p = .000). Religious commitment moderated the effect of stress on DFI. Conclusions: Gender, perceived barriers for healthy eating, and perceived self-efficacy were significant predictors for DFI. Religious commitment influenced the relationship of perceived stress and DFI. These findings may lead to interventions designed to reduce DFI and cardiovascular risks among black emerging adults.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Nutrition-related chronic health conditions among older adults are a growing concern. In this study, nutrition education materials were created for use in senior centers by graduate nutrition students. After the materials were presented, focus groups were conducted with participants (n = 62) to obtain feedback on the content and presentation. Findings related to the participant’s knowledge of nutrition-related information, strategies to improve future class sessions, and participant recruitment will be discussed. These findings will be useful to program administrators as they develop nutrition programs for older adults who are vulnerable to nutrition-related health problems.  相似文献
