Weapons of Mass Distraction: Magicianship,Misdirection, and the Dark Side of Legitimation1

Most discussions of legitimation focus on factors that are expected to contribute to it, such as tradition, expertise, or prosperity. Less attention has been paid to “the dark side” of legitimation, which depends heavily on evading attention. A potentially informative approach is to learn from professionals with special expertise in evading attention while making things “disappear”—magicians. Rather than seeking overt control over the audience, they perform in plain view, largely by using well‐timed distractions, or “misdirection.” Preliminary evidence suggests that similar techniques may be widely used in political contexts, with some of the most effective forms of misdirection involving diversionary reframing—diverting attention away from any questions about existing distributions of privilege, not by brute force, but by changing the subject, especially by raising questions about the legitimacy of critics. These and related techniques clearly deserve to be the focus of additional research.     

光电信息测量瞬时速度的研究

在科学研究和工业生产中，常常需要精确测量各种物理参量。如：重量、长度、速度、角度、体积、压力、——等等。对于测量正常物体的运动速度，一般情况下比较容易求得。但是，如果是求取运动物体的瞬间速度，如抛出物体或自由落体的瞬间速度、汽车座椅受冲击时的瞬时速度等等，就比较难了。目前国内尚无此测量仪器问世。本文论述的运动物体的瞬间速度测量原理和设计制作技术，对检测物体受冲击的灵敏程度有借鉴作用。     

“日有食之”的结构、语义分析

文章分析了“日有食之”的句法结构。大量的古汉语语言事实表明,“日”为主语,“有”为存现动词作谓语,动宾结构“食之”作宾语。语义上,“有”表示出现,“之”回指主语“日”,“食之”前省略了一个未知的主语。“日有食之”就是“日”身上出现了“（主语）食之”的现象。     

2000-2004年《现代雷达》论文统计分析

用分析法统计了《现代雷达》(2000-2004年)论文的引文情况,文中对总被引频次、影响因子、他引总引比、参考文献量、平均引文数、合著论文数、著者分布情况和基金论文数等8项重要指标进行了统计分析,给出平均总被引频次为97.8;平均影响因子为0.103;平均他引总比为0.705;平均参考文献量为627.6;平均引文数为4.52;合著论文年平均数为122.2篇;平均基金论文比为0.096。目的在于找出《现代雷达》存在的问题,为提高《现代雷达》的学术质量提供准确的参考依据,结果对办好《现代雷达》有较大的价值和意义。     

信用证教学方法探讨

信用证是国际贸易实务教学的重难点，内容繁多且枯燥难懂。为了让学生更好地掌握国际贸易专业信用证知识．必须对常规的教学方法进行改革，将授课内容放入到熟悉的《三国》背景中讲授，采取模块式教学及案例教学法，使难懂的信用证知识变得生动活泼，增加学生的学习兴趣，提高教学效果。     

The impact of child and parental age on protective factors against child maltreatment

Although young age for both the parent and child is implicated in incidences of maltreatment, little is known about the association between parent or child age and protective factors related to child maltreatment prevention. With a sample of parents receiving child maltreatment prevention services in Kansas ( N  = 1993), we used regression analyses to examine whether the interaction of child and parent age influences family‐level protective factors over time. We found mixed support for each hypothesis, indicating that the age of parents and children differentially impacts family‐level protective factors. Implications for the Strengthening Families approach and child maltreatment prevention are discussed.     

Gendered work culture in free/libre open source software development

This article adopts a feminist perspective to examine masculine work culture in the development of free/libre open source software. The authors draw on a case study of the ‘Heidi bug’ discovered during the development of the Mozilla Firefox web browser to examine how ‘gendered talk’ was (en)‐acted to facilitate ‘bricolage’ in an online work environment. Such gendered talks contain cultural references familiar to male developers. Though seemingly innocuous, such acts could be seen as a performance of gender that simply reflects the hegemonic heterosexual masculine culture manifested in an online virtual work space. The virtual work space therefore can be exclusive to those who shared the cultural references. Although it may not necessarily be ignorance or insensitivity of male developers, a more gender‐balanced, women‐friendly and inclusive workplace certainly would benefit from a more diverse environment. This article highlights the gendered aspect of software development through examining the language use and mainstream ‘bricolage’ practice, and establishes a compelling ground for enlarging the talent pool to include more women and integrating gender ethics (e.g., raising awareness of sensitive language and design approaches) into computer ethics education.     

The assembly of active participation by parents of children subject to a multi‐agency model of early intervention in child and family services

The Common Assessment Framework provides a model of early intervention, which is familiar in local authorities throughout England, and asserts a participatory framework of child and family engagement. This paper is based on a qualitative study of parents and children who were subject to a multi‐agency process of early intervention in children's social care in a local authority in the Midlands of England. I advance the concept of assemblage to consider the basis of an active service user participation as rather more a struggle to achieve than something that has been granted by practitioner agencies. Interview extracts are used to show the enrolment and assembly of participation as a process of service users developing their active human agency in a multi‐agency setting. The article explores the assembling of skills in administration and management of meetings and plans, accessing knowledge and expertise through service user networks, and challenging professional expertise and institutional space while developing personal qualities of confidence and voice as a means of marshalling an effective participation in a multi‐agency setting.
