The use of the correlation coefficient is suggested as a technique for summarizing and objectively evaluating the information contained in probability plots. Goodness-of-fit tests are constructed using this technique for several commonly used plotting positions for the normal distribution. Empirical sampling methods are used to construct the null distribution for these tests, which are then compared on the basis of power against certain nonnormal alternatives. Commonly used regression tests of fit are also included in the comparisons. The results indicate that use of the plotting position pi = (i - .375)/(n + .25) yields a competitive regression test of fit for normality.  相似文献

In this paper, we address the problem of simulating from a data-generating process for which the observed data do not follow a regular probability distribution. One existing method for doing this is bootstrapping, but it is incapable of interpolating between observed data. For univariate or bivariate data, in which a mixture structure can easily be identified, we could instead simulate from a Gaussian mixture model. In general, though, we would have the problem of identifying and estimating the mixture model. Instead of these, we introduce a non-parametric method for simulating datasets like this: Kernel Carlo Simulation. Our algorithm begins by using kernel density estimation to build a target probability distribution. Then, an envelope function that is guaranteed to be higher than the target distribution is created. We then use simple accept–reject sampling. Our approach is more flexible than others, can simulate intelligently across gaps in the data, and requires no subjective modelling decisions. With several univariate and multivariate examples, we show that our method returns simulated datasets that, compared with the observed data, retain the covariance structures and have distributional characteristics that are remarkably similar.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the issue of constructing retrospective T 2 control chart limits so as to control the overall probability of a false alarm at a specified value. We describe an exact method for constructing the control limits for retrospective examination. We then consider Bonferroni-adjustments to Alt's control limit and to the standard x 2 control limit as alternatives to the exact limit since it is computationally cumbersome to find the exact limit. We present the results of some simulation experiments that are carried out to compare the performance of these control limits. The results indicate that the Bonferroni-adjusted Alt's control limit performs better that the Bonferroni-adjusted x 2 control limit. Furthermore, it appears that the Bonferroni-adjusted Alt's control limit is more than adequate for controlling the overall false alarm probability at a specified value.  相似文献

A large number of statistics have been proposed to study the influence of individual observations in the linear mixed model. An extensive Monte Carlo simulation study is used to evaluate the appropriateness of these influence diagnostic measures. The empirical likelihood ratio (ELR) test for the problem of testing for normality is derived in this article. The sampling properties of the ELR test and four other commonly used tests are provided and analyzed using the Monte Carlo simulation technique. The power comparisons against a wide range of alternative distributions show that the ELR test is the most powerful of these tests in certain situations.  相似文献

For the two-sample location problem with continuous data we consider a general class of tests, all members of it are based on U-statistics. The asymptotic efficacies are investigated in detail. We construct an adaptive test where all statistics involved are suitably chosen U-statistics. Abstract

Generating function-based statistical inference is an attractive approach if the probability (density) function is complicated when compared with the generating function. Here, we propose a parameter estimation method that minimizes a probability generating function (pgf)-based power divergence with a tuning parameter to mitigate the impact of data contamination. The proposed estimator is linked to the M-estimators and hence possesses the properties of consistency and asymptotic normality. In terms of parameter biases and mean squared errors from simulations, the proposed estimation method performs better for smaller value of the tuning parameter as data contamination percentage increases.  相似文献

Abstract

In time series, it is essential to check the independence of data by means of a proper method or an appropriate statistical test before any further analysis. Therefore, among different independence tests, a powerful and productive test has been introduced by Matilla-García and Marín via m-dimensional vectorial process, in which the value of the process at time t includes m-histories of the primary process. However, this method causes a dependency for the vectors even when the independence assumption of random variables is considered. Considering this dependency, a modified test is obtained in this article through presenting a new asymptotic distribution based on weighted chi-square random variables. Also, some other alterations to the test have been made via bootstrap method and by controlling the overlap. Compared with the primary test, it is obtained that not only the modified test is more accurate but also, it possesses higher power.  相似文献

In 1935, R.A. Fisher published his well-known “exact” test for 2x2 contingency tables. This test is based on the conditional distribution of a cell entry when the rows and columns marginal totals are held fixed. Tocher (1950) and Lehmann (1959) showed that Fisher s test, when supplemented by randomization, is uniformly most powerful among all the unbiased tests UMPU). However, since all the practical tests for 2x2 tables are nonrandomized - and therefore biased the UMPU test is not necessarily more powerful than other tests of the same or lower size. Inthis work, the two-sided Fisher exact test and the UMPU test are compared with six nonrandomized unconditional exact tests with respect to their power. In both the two-binomial and double dichotomy models, the UMPU test is often less powerful than some of the unconditional tests of the same (or even lower) size. Thus, the assertion that the Tocher-Lehmann modification of Fisher's conditional test is the optimal test for 2x2 tables is unjustified.  相似文献

It is shown that the locally best invariant test for the existence of outliers for scale parameters of the gamma distribution is given by Bartholomew's test for exponentiality which is the ratio of the sum of squares of the data to the square of the sample mean. The optimality robustness, including null and nonnull robustness of the test is shown. A small simulation study to compare the power among the other eight competitive tests for testing exponentiality is performed. It is seen that the locally best invariant test is not always best but is reasonably good. It is slightly better than Cochran's test and suffers less from the limiting masking effect.  相似文献
