The present paper is mainly concerned with the statistical tests of the independence problem between random vectors. We develop an approach based on general empirical processes indexed by a particular class of functions. We prove two abstract approximation theorems that include some existing results as particular cases. The concept of weighted distributions is well-known in the literature concerning observational studies and surveys in research related to forestry, ecology, bio-medicine and many other areas (cf. Rao (1965)). This paper extends the idea of weighted distributions to multivariate case. A few multivariate orderings have been defined and some partial ordering results are presented. Some results regarding multivariate positive and negative dependence are also discussed. Multivariate weighted distributions - joint, marginal and conditional have been defined and some important results concerning them are presented along with an illustration. Modified chi-squared and some newly developed tests for the Poisson, binomial, and an approximated Feller's distribution are discussed. A reanalysis of the classical Rutherford's experimental data on alpha decay is done. Previous analyses of the data were not correct from the point of view of the theory of statistical testing. Tests used show that the data contradict to both Poisson and binomial distribution and do not contradict to a precise “binomial” approximation of Feller's distribution that takes into account a counter's dead time. This gives a plausible statistically correct confirmation of the well-established exponential law of radioactive decay. 相似文献

Assume that X 1, X 2,…, X n is a sequence of i.i.d. random variables with α-stable distribution (α ∈ (0,2], the stable exponent, is the unknown parameter). We construct minimum distance estimators for α by minimizing the Kolmogorov distance or the Cramér–von-Mises distance between the empirical distribution function G n , and a class of distributions defined based on the sum-preserving property of stable random variables. The minimum distance estimators can also be obtained by minimizing a U-statistic estimate of an empirical distribution function involving the stable exponent. They share the same invariance property with the maximum likelihood estimates. In this article, we prove the strong consistency of the minimum distance estimators. We prove the asymptotic normality of our estimators. Simulation study shows that the new estimators are competitive to the existing ones and perform very closely even to the maximum likelihood estimator. 相似文献

A new approach of randomization is proposed to construct goodness of fit tests generally. Some new test statistics are derived, which are based on the stochastic empirical distribution function (EDF). Note that the stochastic EDF for a set of given sample observations is a randomized distribution function. By substituting the stochastic EDF for the classical EDF in the Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Cramér–von Mises, Anderson–Darling, Berk–Jones, and Einmahl–Mckeague statistics, randomized statistics are derived, of which the qth quantile and the expectation are chosen as test statistics. In comparison to existing tests, it is shown, by a simulation study, that the new test statistics are generally more powerful than the corresponding ones based on the classical EDF or modified EDF in most cases. 相似文献

We propose a class of flexible non-parametric tests for the presence of dependence between components of a random vector based on weighted Cramér–von Mises functionals of the empirical copula process. The weights act as a tuning parameter and are shown to significantly influence the power of the test, making it more sensitive to different types of dependence. Asymptotic properties of the test are stated in the general case, for an arbitrary bounded and integrable weighting function, and computational formulas for a number of weighted statistics are provided. Several issues relating to the choice of the weights are discussed, and a simulation study is conducted to investigate the power of the test under a variety of dependence alternatives. The greatest gain in power is found to occur when weights are set proportional to true deviations from independence copula. 相似文献

For the two cases when the restrictions are true and not true, the superiority of the restricted r–k class estimator and r–d class estimator over the restricted ridge regression estimator by Sarkar [A new estimator combining the ridge regression and the restricted least squares methods of estimation, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 21 (1992), pp. 1987–2000] and the restricted Liu estimator by Kaç?ranlar et al. [A new biased estimator in linear regression and a detailed analysis of the widely analysed dataset on Portland cement, Sankhya - Indian J. Stat. 61B(3) (1999), pp. 443–459] are discussed with respect to the mean squared error matrix criterion.
