In this paper we consider the problem of estimating the reliability of an exponential component based on a Ranked Set Sample (RSS) of size n. Given the first r observations of that sample, 1≤r≤n, we construct an unbiased estimator for this reliability and we show that these n unbiased estimators are the only ones in a certain class of estimators. The variances of some of these estimators are compared. By viewing the observations of the RSS of size n as the lifetimes of n independent k-out-of-n systems, 1≤k≤n, we are able to utilize known properties of these systems in conjunction with the powerful tools of majorization and Schur functions to derive our results.  相似文献

In this article, an unbiased estimator for finite population variance is developed under linear systematic sampling with two random starts and an explicit expression for its variance is also obtained. The study is supported by two real life situations. A detailed numerical comparative study has been carried out to compare its average variance with the average variance of the conventional unbiased estimator for finite population variance under simple random sampling for a wide variety of populations. Results based on the study strongly favor the use of the developed estimator for such populations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the testing problem for homogeneity in the mixture exponential family is considered. The model is irregular in the sense that each interest parameter forms a part of the null hypothesis (sub-null hypothesis) and the null hypothesis is the union of the sub-null hypotheses. The generalized likelihood ratio test does not distinguish between the sub-null hypotheses. The Supplementary Score Test is proposed by combining two orthogonalized score tests obtained corresponding to the two sub-null hypotheses after proper reparameterization. The test is easy to design and performs better than the generalized likelihood ratio test and other alternative tests by numerical comparisons.  相似文献

The Cramér-Rao lower bounds for the variances of unbiased estimators based on censored data are given. Useful techniques of evaluation are then derived for these lower bounds. Examples are given to illustrate these techniques. Small-sample comparisons are made between the resulting lower bounds, the variances of the best linear unbiased estimators, and the variances of unbiased esti-mators which are based on the maximum likelihood estimators.  相似文献

Multiplicative-interaction (M-I) logit models are proposed for three-way IxJx2 contingency tables where the third variable constitutes a binary response. Models are derived by assigning unknown scores to the categories and forming product interactions from them. Asymptotic results under special sampling constraints are derived for maximum likelihood estimates and the goodness-of-fit statistics. The class of models proposed in this paper are found to be useful when no obvious scores are available. An example is included.  相似文献

The concept of inclusion probability proportional to size sampling plans excluding adjacent units separated by at most a distance of m (≥ 1) units {IPPSEA plans} is introduced. IPPSEA plans ensure that the first-order inclusion probabilities of units are proportional to size measures of the units, while the second-order inclusion probabilities are zero for pairs of adjacent units separated by a distance of m units or less. IPPSEA plans have been obtained by making use of binary, proper, and unequireplicated block designs and linear programing approach. The performance of IPPSEA plans using Horvitz–Thompson estimator of population total has been compared with existing sampling plans such as simple random sampling without replacement (SRSWOR), balanced sampling plans excluding adjacent units {BSA (m) plans}, probability proportional to size with replacement, Hartley and Rao's plan (1962 Hartley , H. This paper extends the work of Russell (1976). Proof Is given that, for many parameter sets, all O:XB designs belonging to the set are connected. It is shown how an (M,S)-optinal design nay be selected from the M-optimal designs of a given parameter set. The efficiencies of these (M,S)-optimal designs are displayed, and it is concluded that the (M,S)-optimality criterion is useful for selecting designs of high efficiency.  相似文献
