A unifying framework to test for causal effects in nonlinear models is proposed. We consider a generalized linear‐index regression model with endogenous regressors and no parametric assumptions on the error disturbances. To test the significance of the effect of an endogenous regressor, we propose a statistic that is a kernel‐weighted version of the rank correlation statistic (tau) of Kendall (1938). The semiparametric model encompasses previous cases considered in the literature (continuous endogenous regressors (Blundell and Powell (2003)) and a single binary endogenous regressor (Vytlacil and Yildiz (2007))), but the testing approach is the first to allow for (i) multiple discrete endogenous regressors, (ii) endogenous regressors that are neither discrete nor continuous (e.g., a censored variable), and (iii) an arbitrary “mix” of endogenous regressors (e.g., one binary regressor and one continuous regressor).  相似文献

This article is concerned with the problem of multicollinearity in the linear part of a seemingly unrelated semiparametric (SUS) model. It is also suspected that some additional non stochastic linear constraints hold on the whole parameter space. In the sequel, we propose semiparametric ridge and non ridge type estimators combining the restricted least squares methods in the model under study. For practical aspects, it is assumed that the covariance matrix of error terms is unknown and thus feasible estimators are proposed and their asymptotic distributional properties are derived. Also, necessary and sufficient conditions for the superiority of the ridge-type estimator over the non ridge type estimator for selecting the ridge parameter K are derived. Lastly, a Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to estimate the parametric and nonparametric parts. In this regard, kernel smoothing and cross validation methods for estimating the nonparametric function are used.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Researchers are often required to reuse data that have been collected and analyzed for other purposes. Issues may arise if the outcome of this secondary study is related to the outcome of the first study and traditional methods may fail to deliver a consistent estimate. Here we propose a semiparametric approach that takes this correlation into account and produces asymptotically consistent and normally distributed estimates. We discuss its performance through simulations and apply the proposed method to a real dataset.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a semiparametric method of estimating receiver operating characteristic (ROC) surfaces for continuous diagnostic tests under density ratio models. Implementation of our method is easy since the usual polytomous logistic regression procedures in many statistical software packages can be employed. A simulated example is provided to facilitate the implementation of our method. Simulation results show that the proposed semiparametric ROC surface estimator is more efficient than the nonparametric counterpart and the parametric counterpart whether the normality assumption of data holds or not. Moreover, some simulation results on the underlying semiparametric distribution function estimators are also reported. In addition, some discussions on the proposed method as well as analysis of a real data set are provided.  相似文献

This article examines a semiparametric test for checking the constancy of serial dependence via copula models for Markov time series. A semiparametric score test is proposed for testing the constancy of the copula parameter against stochastically varying copula parameter. The asymptotic null distribution of the test is established. A semiparametric bootstrap procedure is employed for the estimation of the variance of the proposed score test. Illustrations are given based on simulated series and historic interest rate data.  相似文献

This article investigates the confidence regions for semiparametric nonlinear reproductive dispersion models (SNRDMs), which is an extension of nonlinear regression models. Based on local linear estimate of nonparametric component and generalized profile likelihood estimate of parameter in SNRDMs, a modified geometric framework of Bates and Wattes is proposed. Within this geometric framework, we present three kinds of improved approximate confidence regions for the parameters and parameter subsets in terms of curvatures. The work extends the previous results of Hamilton et al. [in Accounting for intrinsic nonlinearity in nonlinear regression parameter inference regions, Ann. Statist. 10, pp. 386–393, 1982], Hamilton [in Confidence regions for parameter subset in nonlinear regression, Biometrika, 73, pp. 57–64, 1986], Wei [in On confidence regions of embedded models in regular parameter families (a geometric approch), Austral. Skew‐symmetric models offer a very flexible class of distributions for modelling data. These distributions can also be viewed as selection models for the symmetric component of the specified skew‐symmetric distribution. The estimation of the location and scale parameters corresponding to the symmetric component is considered here, with the symmetric component known. Emphasis is placed on using the empirical characteristic function to estimate these parameters. This is made possible by an invariance property of the skew‐symmetric family of distributions, namely that even transformations of random variables that are skew‐symmetric have a distribution only depending on the symmetric density. A distance metric between the real components of the empirical and true characteristic functions is minimized to obtain the estimators. The method is semiparametric, in that the symmetric component is specified, but the skewing function is assumed unknown. Furthermore, the methodology is extended to hypothesis testing. Two tests for a null hypothesis of specific parameter values are considered, as well as a test for the hypothesis that the symmetric component has a specific parametric form. A resampling algorithm is described for practical implementation of these tests. The outcomes of various numerical experiments are presented.  相似文献

The analysis of time series data with detection limits is challenging due to the high‐dimensional integral involved in the likelihood. Existing methods are either computationally demanding or rely on restrictive parametric distributional assumptions. We propose a semiparametric approach, where the temporal dependence is captured by parametric copula, while the marginal distribution is estimated non‐parametrically. Utilizing the properties of copulas, we develop a new copula‐based sequential sampling algorithm, which provides a convenient way to calculate the censored likelihood. Even without full parametric distributional assumptions, the proposed method still allows us to efficiently compute the conditional quantiles of the censored response at a future time point, and thus construct both point and interval predictions. We establish the asymptotic properties of the proposed pseudo maximum likelihood estimator, and demonstrate through simulation and the analysis of a water quality data that the proposed method is more flexible and leads to more accurate predictions than Gaussian‐based methods for non‐normal data. In this paper, we study a nonparametric additive regression model suitable for a wide range of time series applications. Our model includes a periodic component, a deterministic time trend, various component functions of stochastic explanatory variables, and an AR(p) error process that accounts for serial correlation in the regression error. We propose an estimation procedure for the nonparametric component functions and the parameters of the error process based on smooth backfitting and quasimaximum likelihood methods. Our theory establishes convergence rates and the asymptotic normality of our estimators. Moreover, we are able to derive an oracle‐type result for the estimators of the AR parameters: Under fairly mild conditions, the limiting distribution of our parameter estimators is the same as when the nonparametric component functions are known. Finally, we illustrate our estimation procedure by applying it to a sample of climate and ozone data collected on the Antarctic Peninsula.  相似文献
