For decision purpose, one of the commonly used statistical applications is the comparison of two or more objects or characteristics. Sometimes, it is not possible to compare the objects at a time or when the number of objects under study is large and the differences between the objects become small, then a useful way is to compare them in pairwise manner. Because of its practical nature, the fields in which paired comparison techniques are being used are numerous. Many Bayesian statisticians have focused their attention on the practical and usable paired comparison technique and have successfully performed the Bayesian study of many of the paired comparison models. In the current study, analysis of the amended Davidson model (ADM) which has been extended after incorporating the order effect parameter is narrated. For this intention, both the informative and non informative priors are used. The said model is studied for the case of four treatments which are compared pairwise.  相似文献

Utilizing affective events theory (Weiss & Cropanzano, 1996), the current study unravels how and when pseudo-transformational leaders promote contempt, avoidance, and aggression. Specifically, we examined whether pseudo-transformational leadership enforces feelings of contempt, which, in turn, fosters interaction avoidance and covert aggression in followers. We hypothesized that contempt also has an indirect effect that is contingent on levels of epistemic motivation of followers. By adopting a multi-wave research design, we gathered data from 277 employees of the service sector of Pakistan. The results signified that followers of pseudo-transformational leaders feel contemptuous of them and respond with interaction avoidance and indirect aggression. Further, we found that the impact of pseudo-transformational leadership on contempt was more pronounced in individuals with higher levels of epistemic motivation. We believe that this study opens up a new avenue in the pseudo-transformational leadership literature by highlighting the mechanism and conditions under which such leaders are deleterious for organizations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Children in care experience multiple risk factors, particularly in low-income countries such as Pakistan. The aim was to establish rates of mental health problems and their relationship with posttraumatic growth, as reported by 132 children aged 9–19 years, living in three care homes in Pakistan. Children reported high rates of posttraumatic stress (70.45%) and common mental health symptoms (43.94%) within the clinical range, but also high levels of posttraumatic growth. These findings highlight the high levels of mental health needs among children in residential care, as well as the importance of understanding factors that promote their posttraumatic growth and resilience.  相似文献

In recent years, numerous statisticians have focused their attention on the Bayesian analysis of different paired comparison models. While studying paired comparison techniques, the Davidson model is considered to be one of the famous paired comparison models in the available literature. In this article, we have introduced an amendment in the Davidson model which has been commenced to accommodate the option of not distinguishing the effects of two treatments when they are compared pairwise. Having made this amendment, the Bayesian analysis of the Amended Davidson model is performed using the noninformative (uniform and Jeffreys’) and informative (Dirichlet–gamma–gamma) priors. To study the model and to perform the Bayesian analysis with the help of an example, we have obtained the joint and marginal posterior distributions of the parameters, their posterior estimates, graphical presentations of the marginal densities, preference and predictive probabilities and the posterior probabilities to compare the treatment parameters.  相似文献

We commonly observe many types of paired nature of competitions in which the objects are compared by the respondents pairwise in a subjective manner. The Bayesian statistics, contrary to the classical statistics, presents a generic tool to incorporate new experimental evidence and update the existing information. These and other properties have ushered the statisticians to focus their attention on the Bayesian analysis of different paired comparison models. The present article focuses on the amended Davidson model for paired comparison in which an amendment has been introduced that accommodates the option of not distinguishing the effects of two treatments when they are compared pairwise. However, Bayesian analysis of the amended Davidson model is performed using the noninformative priors after making another small modification of incorporating the parameter of order effect factor. The joint and marginal posterior distributions of the parameters, their posterior estimates, predictive and posterior probabilities to compare the treatment parameters are obtained.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to develop a deeper understanding of a negative behavior at work through a study of the lived experience of bullying in Australian workplaces. Although there is considerable research available on workplace bullying, extant research largely provides empirical examinations of the prevalence, causes, and consequences of the phenomenon. By contrast, the research herein reported offers an in-depth account of bullying from the frame of reference of those who have experienced it and demonstrates the difficulties faced by them when coping with it. The study’s data source is drawn from reports submitted to the Australian Parliamentary Inquiry on workplace bullying. The reports were analyzed by using the principles of interpretative phenomenological analysis. The study highlights the impact of bullying at work on individuals’ lives and the coping mechanisms used for dealing with the impact. This article also reveals that bullying destroys organizations’ succession planning efforts as competent and talented individuals leave jobs as a way of coping with bullying. The study further shows that some individuals eventually choose to end their lives as a way of coping with bullying. The article thus adds evidence to anecdotal suggestions of the link between bullying and suicide in Australia.  相似文献

Our intent in this paper was to provide experimental evidence for the Gift Exchange Mechanism in the context of charitable donations in Pakistan. We chose a simple and elegant experiment of Falk as the basis for our experiment. Due to institutional differences, we replaced his postal campaign for charitable donations by a door-to-door campaign. The additional opportunity for social interaction, and cultural differences, led to substantial and unexpected variation in the results. Most importantly, in direct contrast to results of Falk, both frequency and average size of donations declined with increasing gift size. Thus the GEM failed to operate in this experiment. We provide some potential explanations for this surprising result. Our experiment also provides some information on gender and income effects on charitable donations, which vary from main findings in the literature. In particular, we find that females contribute more in frequency and size, and that the share of giving declines with income.  相似文献

While workplace bullying is recognised as a serious issue for management concern around the world, the literature on approaches to prevent and manage it in international settings is sparse. This paper advances knowledge on managing workplace bullying by reporting an investigation of how and why ethical leadership may be an effective management style to address this issue across cultures. It draws on Social Learning and Social Exchange Theories to conceptualise interactional justice as a possible mediating mechanism by which workplace bullying can be reduced in the presence of ethical leadership.The researcher surveyed 636 employees working in an equivalent job context in Australia (N = 306) and Pakistan (N = 330) to determine the cross-cultural effectiveness of ethical leadership-based framing. Through the examination of direct and indirect effects (via interactional justice) of ethical leadership on workplace bullying, the findings indicated that employee exposure to such behaviour is significantly reduced because ethical leaders foster justice at work. This study has implications for improving international management practice in regard to workplace bullying.  相似文献

A relatively newer computational technique adopted by statisticians is known as independent component analysis (ICA) which is used to analyze complex multidimensional data with the objective to separate it into components that are independent to each other. Quite often the main interest for conducting ICA is to identify a small number of significant independent components (ICs) to replace the original complex dimensions with. For this, determining the order of identified ICs is a pre-requisite. The area is not unaddressed but it does deserve a careful revisiting. This is the subject matter of the paper which introduces a new method to order ICs. The proposed method is based upon regression approach. It compares the magnitude of the mixing coefficients and regression coefficients of the regression of the original series on ICs. Their compatibility determines the order.  相似文献

It is common for linear regression models that the error variances are not the same for all observations and there are some high leverage data points. In such situations, the available literature advocates the use of heteroscedasticity consistent covariance matrix estimators (HCCME) for the testing of regression coefficients. Primarily, such estimators are based on the residuals derived from the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator that itself can be seriously inefficient in the presence of heteroscedasticity. To get efficient estimation, many efficient estimators, namely the adaptive estimators are available but their performance has not been evaluated yet when the problem of heteroscedasticity is accompanied with the presence of high leverage data. In this article, the presence of high leverage data is taken into account to evaluate the performance of the adaptive estimator in terms of efficiency. Furthermore, our numerical work also evaluates the performance of the robust standard errors based on this efficient estimator in terms of interval estimation and null rejection rate (NRR).  相似文献
