Within the debate about the future of the welfare state a guaranteed social minimum income is often discussed as an alternative to the current social security system. One objection to such a proposal argues that a social minimum income lacks social acceptance and normative recognition. Starting from the thesis that the standard instruments of survey research have little to offer for giving a detailed account of the attitudes towards a social minimum, we deploy the more complex method of Factorial Survey Design. The study sample consists of 121 employed persons. Within the study, the focus is on the criteria used and the differentiations made when people are asked to evaluate a just minimum income. It can be shown that a uniform and flat-rate social minimum possesses less legitimacy than a transfer system that differentiates entitlements according to the beneficiaries relation to the employment sphere and certain need criteria. In addition, we find support for the idea of low income subsidies as suggested by the negative income concept. Though the results give evidence of the normative attraction of a social minimum, it is also apparent that the social judgments of the respondents are influenced by in the normative principles of the existing social security arrangements. 相似文献

Efficient contracts set incentives through the assignment of rights and profit shares., Although efficient contracts have been used to explain the nature of the firm, the use of contractual rights in specific business contracts is relatively unexplored. We analyze contractual rights in franchise systems, in particular the right to add franchisees. An exclusive territory assigned to an initial franchisee is not an immutable guarantee, but rather a starting point for subsequent renegotiation in the franchise relationship. Exclusivity is therefore profitable when franchisee efforts are critical to the venture. A sample of franchise contracts reveals evidence consistent with the model's prediction. 相似文献

Barro-type endogenous growth models propose a nonmonotonic relationship between productive public spending and growth. Under this so-called nonlinearity hypothesis the size and direction of growth effects due to an increase in public spending depend on the share of public spending in GDP. Employing German time-series data we examine the validity of the nonlinearity hypothesis. We estimate growth effects by using models whose coefficients are allowed to vary with the share of public spending in GDP. This article examines the reasons for inequalities of earnings in Germany and the extent to which these inequalities are considered to be legitimate. We focus on three major inequality-generating factors derived from labour market and inequality research: individual, firm-specific and structural factors. We then investigate empirically the importance of these factors in the emergence of differences of earnings and the extent to which employees consider the rents of each factor to be just or unjust. Analyses based on data from the German Socio-Economic Panel reveal that wage differentials are considered as just if they can be attributed to individual factors (level of education, professional experience). In contrast, wage differentials due to firm-specific factors (atypical employment, seniority-based pay) and structural factors (certain occupational groups/industries, differences between regions) are the major reasons for perceived earnings injustice. The results of this study will contribute to the debate concerning increasing wage inequalities and reveal that distinguishing between just and unjust inequalities is essential, especially in discussions regarding the social or political consequences of this trend. 相似文献

Leaders form different quality leader–member exchange (LMX) relationships with their subordinates. This variable treatment termed LMX differentiation can have negative effects on individuals' behavior and attitudes. In this study, we examined the cross-level main effect of justice climate on task performance and the moderating role of justice climate on the relationship between LMX differentiation and task performance. We tested these two hypotheses using a field study of 90 subordinates nested under 27 supervisors. Procedural justice climate, not distributive justice climate, was found to positively influence subordinate task performance. Further, distributive justice climate, not procedural justice climate, was found to moderate the LMX differentiation–task performance relationship; such that the relationship was positive when distributive justice climate was high and negative when distributive justice climate was low.
