Placement Educators’ Experiences and Perspectives of Supervising International Social Work Students in Australia

International social work students in Australia have reported difficulties in finding quality placement opportunities and dealing with issues such as language and cultural barriers. While placement issues have been mostly investigated from a student perspective, this study explores the experiences and perspectives of placement educators towards supervising international social work students. It draws on an online survey of 83 placement educators working for an Australian university. The majority of placement educators reported that they supervised international students differently to domestic students. These differences were negatively framed as challenges involving students’ language competence, their understanding of cultural norms, and knowledge of Australian welfare systems. This framing implies that cultural and linguistic differences between international students and placement educators are viewed in terms of student deficiency rather than as a positive opportunity for mutual learning and professional development.

On the almost sure convergence for sums of negatively superadditive dependent random vectors in Hilbert spaces and its application

Abstract

This paper develops almost sure convergence for sums of negatively superadditive dependent random vectors in Hilbert spaces, we obtain Chung type SLLN and the Jaite type SLLN for sequences of negatively superadditive dependent random vectors in Hilbert spaces. Rate of convergence is studied through considering almost sure convergence to 0 of tail series. As an application, the almost sure convergence of degenerate von Mises-statistics is investigated.     

The need of population research in China

The author discusses the defective population data of China's past and the gradual, somewhat sporadic, improvements which have taken place in recent years. He draws attention to the types of population studies and data now most required, including sample censuses, adequate vital registration, studies of internal migration, of the relation of population density to developed resources, and of ethnic minorities in China. In addition to these contemporary questions, historical inquiries are also needed to produce, as far as possible, a reliable and coherent account of population trends in Chinese history.     

A reply to Walker’s note: A comment on Taşiran’s ‘Wage and income effects on the timing and spacing of births in Sweden and in the United States’

Walker (1997) criticizes one of the conclusions in my book Tas?\iran (1995), that Heckman and Walker’s very high negative wage rate and positive income effects on Swedish fertility are very sensitive. In this paper, I explain, first, that my results are not only based on the series Walker mentions, but also on other series in both SFS and HUS data sets. Second, the combined aggregate and micro wage series he criticizes is mainly derived with Heckman and Walker. Third, by discussing the points he raises for the combination strategy, I show that his revised results are also supporting my conclusion. 苯教是青藏高原土生土长的本土宗教,也是藏族文化的源泉;苯教文献是古代藏族人民在人类文明史上留下的辉煌篇章。甘肃宕昌藏族家藏苯教文献,是研究和认识藏族及其文明的极其重要的历史文献资料,尤其是研究7—9世纪甚至5—6世纪以前藏人的思想、哲学、宗教、政治、经济、文化、科学技术等的弥足珍贵的资料,是开掘苯教文化、承续藏族远古文明薪火的重要文本。本文对宕昌家藏苯教写本文书考察和收集进行综合述评,并对苯教渊源考述、佛苯融通及苯教文化的适应谈了自己的观点。
