Since the 1980s, especially the mid-1980s, the imbalance in the sex ratio at birth in China has been increasing continuously and the situation has worsened in recent years, according to the fourth and fifth censuses in 1990 and 2000. China／UNFPA Project Helps to Change

The survey was conducted in three townships in Kuerle during June 15-17. In-depth interviews were conducted on separate occasions withlocal women and with family planning cadres andworkers at the city and township levels. The surveyshowed that the local family planning commissionhas complied with the requirements of the UNFPA FP/RH project by promoting informed choice andabandoning the quota system.
