To analyze the influence of different health status dimensions and quality of life (QoL) domains on older adults’ subjective
health, and to assess the role that residential satisfaction plays in these relationships. A QoL survey was conducted on a
representative sample of the community-dwelling older adult population in Madrid province (Spain). Logistic regression models
were applied to studying: the health status dimensions associated with satisfaction with health; the relationship between
satisfaction with health and other QoL domains; and, the influence of these domains on satisfaction with life. Sociodemographic
and residential characteristics were included in all the models. The determinants of satisfaction with health in the first
model were: mobility, usual activities, morbidity, and satisfaction with neighborhood. QoL domains associated with health
were: leisure activities, neighborhood, and finances. Satisfaction with life was explained by these three domains, along with
age, family and health. In sum, leisure, neighborhood, and finances showed a positive effect on satisfaction with health and
with life. 相似文献

How are different ethnic groups dealing with upward social mobility and assimilation? This is a large question that social research has tried to address in recent decades. In the United States, this issue has been framed by the theory of segmented assimilation. In Europe, regarding the Romà, the assumption still exists that upward mobility paths are intrinsically associated with a loss of ethnic identity, due to a process of full acculturation to the mainstream. In this article, through an analysis of 48 in-depth interviews with middle-class Romà in Spain, we identify other mobility paths, such as selective acculturation, that exist in addition to full acculturation. In this sense, we observe how symbolic differences exist between those middle-class Romà who live in an ethnic enclave and have a strong network of support and those who do not. In most cases, middle-class Romà tend to live outside the enclave and experience what we have called constricted ethnicity. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis study analyzes the relationship between gender and self-perceived health status in Spanish retirees and housewives from a sample of 1,106 community-dwelling older adults. A multivariate linear regression model was used in which self-perceived health status was measured by the EQ-5D visual analogue scale and gender according to work status (retired men and women and housewives). Retired males reported a significantly better health status than housewives. Self-perceived health status was closely associated with physical, mental, and functional health and leisure activities. Finally, being a woman with complete dedication to domestic work is associated with a worse state of self-perceived health. 相似文献
