This paper uses datafrom eighteen months intensive fieldwork in five local authorities,first, to examine the very different interpretations of caremanagement in these authorities; secondly, to examine two majorsources of difficulty in the implementation of care managementsystems—the simultaneous development of purchaser/providersplits, and the tension between needs and resources—and,finally, to draw some conclusions about the implications ofcare management for social workers.  相似文献

Cet article examine deux questions sur le mentorat. D'abord, qui est le plus susceptible de bénéficier de services de mentorat au cours de sa carrière? Ensuite, comment le mentorat influence‐t‐il les carrières des professionnels? En utilisant une enquête longitudinale sur des avocats, les auteures évaluent l'incidence des postes et des aspirations en début de carrière sur les chances de bénéficier de services de mentorat. Elles mesurent les bénéfices du mentorat au moyen des récompenses de carrière intrinsèques et extrinsèques, pour découvrir que le contexte organisationnel et les attributs individuels constituent d'importants prédicteurs de qui bénéficiera de mentorat. Les professionnels ayant de multiples mentors se sont avérés les grands gagnants, en ce qu'ils obtiennent des récompenses de carrière plus importantes et plus diversifiées que ceux n'ayant pas de mentor. This paper addresses two questions regarding mentoring: First, who is most likely to receive mentorship during their career? And second, how does mentorship shape the careers of professionals? Using a longitudinal survey of lawyers, we evaluate the impact of early career positions and aspirations on the chances for mentorship. We assess the benefits of mentorship across extrinsic and intrinsic career rewards. We find organizational context and individual attributes are important predictors of who receives mentorship. Professionals with multiple mentors were the big winners in that they obtain greater and more diverse career rewards over those with one or no mentors.  相似文献

SUMMARY. The question of involving children themselves in conciliation, when their parents are being divorced., has been considered and debated over the ten years since conciliation services began in this country as described in two articles in the last issue of Children & Society. This article describes how children are involved in one service — the Lothian Family Conciliation Service. The author followed up a sample of children who had been involved in conciliation., to ask their views on the service. While the findings point to positive outcomes for many of the children., some safeguards and conditions are needed to improve the service when conciliators see children as well as their parents  相似文献

Diaspora politics has been celebrated as a form of transnationalism that can potentially challenge authoritarian regimes. Arguably, opposition groups and political activists can mobilize beyond the territorial limits of the state, thus bypassing some of the constraints to political organization found in authoritarian states. The literature on transnational and extraterritorial repression complicates this model, for it shows that states can use strategies of ‘long‐distance authoritarianism’ to monitor, intimidate and harass diasporic populations abroad. Yet, non‐state actors in the diaspora also sometimes use such repressive strategies to mobilize internally, gain hegemony within the diaspora, and marginalize or eliminate internal rivals. This raises the question of whether such activities can be understood as non‐state forms of authoritarianism. Cases of diasporic politics pertaining to Turkey and Sri Lanka are briefly explored with a view to examining how state and non‐state forms of transnational repression can, under some conditions, result in the dynamics of competitive authoritarianism within a diaspora. In such cases, ‘ordinary’ members of the diaspora may become caught between multiple forms of transnational repression in addition to potentially experiencing marginalization and securitization in their new home.  相似文献

Norms of reciprocity help enforce cooperative agreements in bilateral sequential exchange. We examine the norms that apply in a reciprocal-exchange economy. In our one-shot investment game in a Nairobi slum, people adhered to the norm of "balanced reciprocity," which obligates quid-pro-quo returns for any level of trust. The norm is gendered, with people more likely to comply when confronted with women rather than men, and differs from "conditional reciprocity," prevalent in developed countries, according to which greater trust is rewarded with proportionally larger returns. Balanced reciprocity produces less trust and trustworthiness and smaller gains from trade than conditional reciprocity. ( JEL C72, C91)  相似文献

Abstract This paper looks at the institutional construction of individual pupil identity within state authorised elementary schooling in 19th century Scotland. It argues that in the 1850s and 1860s an official priority of social order began to give way to the importance of a concern with individual achievement. The pre-conditions for this discursive shift can be found in the institutionalisation of school registers and individual written examinations. The definition of what was to be considered as individual achievement was constrained by the class specificity of the operation of these mechanisms.  相似文献

Summary This article describes an empirical study of the work stressorsand psychological strains experienced by social workers in Hertfordshire.A questionnaire, based on Payne's (1979) model of occupationalstress, investigated the perceived Demands, Supports, and Constraintsof the work, including threats and violence in addition to moresubjective perceptions of pressure. The research aimed to establishthe extent and nature of stress amongst social workers and topinpoint the specific features of the work which are associatedwith particularly poor levels of psychological health. It alsoaimed to suggest possible courses of action to alleviate excessivepressure. The research showed that while the social workers found theirjob satisfying, they perceived the work as very pressured andfelt that the pressure adversely affected the service they provided.The psychological health measures indicated that levels of generalanxiety were particularly high. The most highly stressed workersperceived their jobs as more demanding and less supportive andestimated that they took twice as much sick leave. Certain specificdemands and supports were shown to be important in predictingpsychological health. Various recommendations are made aimedat alleviating strain by reducing demands and constraints andincreasing supports.  相似文献
