The purpose of this study was to validate and expand on Y. B. Chung's (2001) models of work discrimination and coping strategies among lesbian, gay, and bisexual persons. In semistructured individual interviews, 17 lesbians and gay men reported 35 discrimination incidents and their related coping strategies. Responses were coded based on Chung's models. Results supported the validity of the Work Discrimination model and two coping strategy models (Vocational Choice and Identity Management). The Discrimination Management coping strategy model was expanded. Implications for practice and research are discussed. 相似文献
In this paper, we define and study a new notion for the comparison of the hazard rates of two random variables taking into account their mutual dependence. Properties, applications and the comparison for a data set are given. 相似文献
The main objective of this work is to evaluate the performance of confidence intervals, built using the deviance statistic, for the hyperparameters of state space models. The first procedure is a marginal approximation to confidence regions, based on the likelihood test, and the second one is based on the signed root deviance profile. Those methods are computationally efficient and are not affected by problems such as intervals with limits outside the parameter space, which can be the case when the focus is on the variances of the errors. The procedures are compared to the usual approaches existing in the literature, which includes the method based on the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator, as well as bootstrap confidence intervals. The comparison is performed via a Monte Carlo study, in order to establish empirically the advantages and disadvantages of each method. The results show that the methods based on the deviance statistic possess a better coverage rate than the asymptotic and bootstrap procedures. 相似文献
Elderly patients with cardiovascular events are characterized by high drug consumptions. Whether high drug consumptions are related to physical activity is not known. In order to examine whether physical activity is related to drug consumption in the elderly, patients older than 65 years (n?=?250) with a recent cardiovascular event were studied. Physical activity was analyzed according to the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) score and related to drug consumption. PASE score was 72.4?±?45.0 and drug consumption was 8.3?±?2.2. Elderly patients with greater comorbidity took more drugs (8.7?±?2.1) and are less active (PASE?=?64.4?±?50.6) than patients with Cumulative Illness Rating Scale severity score higher than 1.8 than those with a score lower than 1.8 (76.3?±?41.4, p?<?0.05, and 8.0?±?2.0, p?=?0.006, respectively). Multivariate analysis correlation confirmed that PASE score is negatively associated with drug consumption (β?=??0.149, p?=?0.031), independently of several variables including comorbidity. Thus, physical activity is inversely related to drug consumption in elderly patients with cardiovascular events. This inverse relationship may be attributable to the high degree of comorbidity observed in elderly patients in whom poor level of physical activity and high drug consumption are predominant. 相似文献
Highly skewed outcome distributions observed across clusters are common in medical research. The aim of this paper is to understand how regression models widely used for accommodating asymmetry fit clustered data under heteroscedasticity. In a simulation study, we provide evidence on the performance of the Gamma Generalized Linear Mixed Model (GLMM) and log-Linear Mixed-Effect (LME) model under a variety of data-generating mechanisms. Two case studies from health expenditures literature, the cost of strategies after myocardial infarction randomized clinical trial on the cost of strategies after myocardial infarction and the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel hospital prevalence survey of pressure ulcers, are analyzed and discussed. According to simulation results, the log-LME model for a Gamma response can lead to estimations that are biased by as much as 10% of the true value, depending on the error variance. In the Gamma GLMM, the bias never exceeds 1%, regardless of the extent of heteroscedasticity, and the confidence intervals perform as nominally stated under most conditions. The Gamma GLMM with a log link seems to be more robust to both Gamma and log-normal generating mechanisms than the log-LME model. 相似文献
